Sad times for fans of stomach churning non-euclidean games
the feeling of finding this video 1 month after it came out, and still waiting with no updates
His twitter is actually alive (ish?) random reply 10 days ago said hes still working on it just incredibly slow
@@scetchyghost5464 Oh that's awesome. Didn't mention it here, but I actually did email him about it and never got a response. Maybe that's what prompted it?
if only the algorithm told us a long time ago
If there's one thing I've learned from random gamedev vids I've been recced on youtube (and frankly, my own code/projects): There's a lot of people out there who make really cool tech demos and then realize they have no idea how to slot it into an interesting game, and then it just ends up collecting dust forever.
Thank you, Algorithm. I *did* want to see this three-year-old video.

Wow we all on the same boat here XD

Hello there
This is incredible, usually games with portals of some kind have lighting seams when an object is halfway through the portal, but I can really see here you built an engine from the ground up to handle these wormholes and other strange spaces. Is the way the light is bent mathematically accurate to how it would theoretically look in real life? I’d love to see a behind the scenes video if you’re still working on this
It is accurate.
[Disclaimer: Not the developer, just an interested SF author.]
I too want more in depth content on this game/engine but I just checked and this channel doesn’t seem to be active anymore unfortunately
I believe this is rendered using some form of ray-tracing (ray-marching or path-tracing for example).
@@CDBelfer4 I believe so as well but an in depth explanation/walkthrough from the dev themselves would be awesome
Up
Euclid in shambles rn
Lovecraft could never
The two year gap since an upload is very concerning, as I do genuinely want this project to continue.
yes
You have to take into account that this video and the last video this guy posted had a five year gap so the project is most likely still going on.
15 days ago he posted a reply on his twitter “The project is not dead. The progress is awfully slow. I still hope to find more time for this.”
2 comments below yours he has a reply to a comment saying the project isn't dead, from 4 weeks ago
THIS WORKS WAY TOO WELL
seriously, this is amazing!
wait, this was three years ago... i only just realized
man...i was recommended this video today, and then i see comments like this, and im like....WHAT?!
where is this guy?! he just....fell off the map or something. i NEED this game to come out and....be real. I would LOVE to see this get more attention.
Thanks for the encouragement! The project is not dead. The scope is overly ambitions and I'm only working part time on this. Hopefully, I will share an update soon-ish.
@@TomFractals woop woop
@@TomFractalsbless you for making this my man
this looks really cool man good luck.

Looks like a lot of effort has been put into this. It looks premium.
May or may not. The key thing is that it looks visually similar to a continuous symmetrical sphere to sphere wormhole transformation. The only error I think I notice is that the "mountain" world he flew to seemed to be stretched in a non-euclidean way without a horizon like the city world. I think a nice wormhole transformation would allow a portal from one euclidean place to another even in the same universe. Now, is that what he was going for? Possibly. That's just my opinion and what I would like to see. This guy went through the effort and had some knowledge to put this together, so until we see more from him, maybe there isn't much to conclude about his modeling techniques.
The visual distortion reminds me of the black/white holes in outer wilds. Very cool!
Gravitational Lensing I thinks the name
Ya know, it's starting to frustrate me when i hear about Black Holes without White Holes being mentioned. We're leaving out half of the phenomenon. I believe everything to be in multiverses where everything churns, bubbles and bursts and in whatever manner that cosmic liquid reacts to turbulance..
Our universe devours itself like any other lifeform and gives off energy in kind.
.. i am rambling.. sorry. But white holes.. spewing particles of creation like celestial seeds.. after an eternity has passed, life begins anew.
It’s not just me! I know it’s because they’re meant to reflect how they’d actually look but still
Hyperbolica...
*IN SPAAAAACE!*
This effect is the best portal/wormhole effect I've ever seen in a game and its the effect I'veped I'd see in a game some day. This is incredible!
It's sad we have no more updates about this, looks pretty cool too, love the ship design.
What you took away from this video was that you liked the ship design............. bruh
They said in another comment that they're still working on it!
@@cesruhf2605i mean it looks cool but yeah it isn't the focus of the video ☠️
OK. This is really cool. Some serious maths went into this.
you know, once in a lifetime youtube gets the recommendations right.
That looks spot on. The mathematics behind it must be immense and to do it on a smooth game engine is excellent.
This looks extremely cool and I can't wait to play it.
Idea for a game mode: two teams doing a tug of war with the wormhole. As your team makes progress, your opponent's territory shrinks towards the wormhole and yours expands away from it.
What a surprise, died before arrival
thats just silly
THE MUSIC IS SUCH A JAM IT CANNOT BE HELPED OR TAMED
I desperately hope that this project didn't just die off due to the upload gap. This would've been one of the *coolest* and most *unique* gameplay features.
It did.
@@vladcrow4225 source. Now.
@@vladcrow4225The creator said in another comment that they are still working on the project.
This is it. This is what I always wanted to see when I see a junk paperlike portals
You shold make a complete game out of this idea 👍
The rocky landscape in between the 2 cities through the wormhole appears to be in s3, like the farm level from Hyperbolica. Is this correct?
That's correct.
Where is the terminology "s3" from? A few quick searches didn't turn up anything relevant.

@@reddragonflyxx657I'm guessing S_3, that is the hypersphere/3-sphere
I rea0lly love just how much space there is where the worlds touch
It's really interesting to see actual working wormholes in a game. It must be tricky to render them at interactive framerates and also handle object coordinates/interactions in curved spaces. I wonder how it's technically done inside the engine. Looks like lots of raytracing/raymarching to render all the warped reflections and stuff.
Space Engine is also going to implement working wormholes. There you'll be able to edit the throat length yourself. It's pretty crazy games are starting to do this now.
Nope
They are really easy to render if you use compute shaders
It's just all the math you have to work out and implement it in code
Don’t forget that this is done by kne person.
WHere is it ?Its 2024 lmfao@@kedrednael
@@abhirupkundu2778 It's in space engine right now
I wonder what happened to this project??
This is very cool. Movement through other non-euclidean games is basically restricted to forward/backwards/left/right (moving along a plane). The fact that you can fly through this allows movement in a third dimension, and seems to allow for a richer experience of the geometry.
Can’t wait for more on this!
I thought Manifold Garden was trippy enough, and now this exists.
Wow, this is really cool! At first I was just enjoying the spacetime warping (it felt similar to when I managed to lucid dream by thinking about it), but about when the location name stylishly and informatively popped up in the corner, i knew I wanted to check this game out.. I'm super curious to see where this goes, I'll definitely play it for the feel alone.
You are just a nizzotch copycat. After all, nizzotch privated his entire channel.
I hope this guy was hired to work on a secret game centered around wormholes and it’s coming out any day now
Wait so is the wormhole spherical geometry, that’s even cooler!!!
the wormhole is cylinder geometry but the throat has no lenght the spherical geometry is actually the lava world
@@igorjosue8957 Ohh ok, I thought it was one wormhole with the rocky interior but I'm guessing it's actually 2 and the rock world is like an access point for multiple wormholes?
@@TomtheMagician21 actually if you think its 2 planes connected by a sphere on the fourth dimensional space so tecnically the lava world maybe can be the interior of the wormhole
@@igorjosue8957 Maybe but I've seen other simulations where the interior was cylindrical rather than spherical so I feel like this is a sort of hub world because it loops back on itself in every direction
@@TomtheMagician21 yes, maybe you are right
The third dimension been real quiet since this dropped
Looks very similar to the math of the black hole in The Outer Wilds, but with a smooth transition to the other world. Nice.
the idea of hyperbolic border-worlds put there just to act as stopgaps between euclidean space is so cool
*I find it fascinating that the "breakthrough" of DMT experiences feels and looks exactly like the moment the ship passed through the wormhole.*
Spiritual Transcendence of Descent Freespace
This is incredibly cool, also i find that the fact youtube sent this out randomly is very interesting, wonder what in the algorithm made that happen
Augmented reality gave me motion sickness.
Project Manifold: HOLD MY BEER…
Wow, very cool. The smooth transitions are amazing
Not only the wormhole is awesome so is the music. hope the project is still going
This looks brilliant, I hope to see this idea fully realised some day.
Awesome! The demo looked amazing!
Flashing back to the old "Mind's Eye" videos from the early 90s.
HOLY FUCK! being able to actually see a wormhole in action ACTUALLY made my brain finally understand the 3 spatial dimensions curve into other ones. something i thought was forever incomprehensible for my 3d brain actually is very intuitive now that i've actually seen how it works. HOW TF DID YOU DO THIS
Absolutnie niesamowity koncept. Oglądałem z zapartym tchem. Czekam na dalsze informacje!
That lens distortion looks AMAZING, it reminds me of Interstellar
It is likely not distortion but spherical geometry.
I've always thought if i went to game/metaverse development career, I would go all in in creating a non-euclidian geometry space. What you are doing is a breakthrought that is going to bring us toward next level of alternative experiences of realities in the realm of game/metaverse. How boring are all those classic 3D spaces. It will be amazing to have cities built with non-euclidean geometry, messing with distances, with down up left and right. Thank you for what you did and maybe thank you even more for what you'll continue to do
Now you are thinking with SPHERICAL portals!
Thank you for doing something different with the spaces. So many "non euclidean" games are actually just discontinuous euclidean and it doesn't feel different or alien.
Amazing work
Oh my god this is so good!
Imagine this in VR, would be super trippy
A space exploration game with wormholes like this would be nuts
Very cool, the concept is intruiging and the simplistic visuals are nice.
Real life wormholes look spooky as hell
looks awesome

this looks awesome
Damn this is awesome!
Really really cool and beautiful.
Really hope this got somewhere
I am amazed that something like this is possible to render in real time... We have come so far.
I did a decent bit of study on positively curved spaces, and your second space threw me for a loop! I would love to hear about if the project is still on the table and any progress you've made since the video was posted!
This is Amazing
yeah, this one is a real portal, congratulations!
Looks really cool! Hope there will be a follow up:)
Looks insane and the music hits hard :[]
Ah yes, my favorite genre, motion sickness.
This plus outerwilds would be so sick.
Also deep rock galactic.
Actually just everything.
i'm intrigued
Just incredible.
Rejoice, for you have been chosen by the algorithm
This feels like a remake of the Descent games
My brain just exploded.
wow, that looks so cool!
Manifold Garden vibe intensifies
this really manifolds my garden
Incredible
I love that video games can be used to show us things that could literally never be real
Wormholes are theoretically real (meaning they are, we just haven't observed any yet or none can exist in a stable form), so it's more an illustration of a real thing we're likely never to experience.
It looks great and i would love to play it
Looks very cool!
This is cool. Subscribed.
So cool! Keep it up :)
This is incredible
Cool demo
Maybe we can hope that the algorithm Shows Tomfractals this too… otherwise Project manifold may be but the friends we made along the way
Amazing graphics! :0
Love the SR71 inspiration for the craft design 😉
This is really trippy
I appreciate the name "Riemanna city" based off calculus concepts 😂
WE NEED AN UPDATE LAD

It looks so dope 🤩
I love this!
