I literally just came across this process by accident today and had to go on a tutorial binge watch, this is literally like magic! I am in love with this!
I just purchased your book on electroforming and read it cover to cover. I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your work, your tutorial and your book. The book is so clear with big photos and instruction on every single step and supplies. I can't thank you enough ❣️
Absolutely cracking, thank you so much. Love the bicarbonate of soda trick with the super glue, the mixing of graphite powder with modge podge to make a customized conductivity solution and the creative thing with the beautiful bark
Very interesting! This resembles Finnish jewelry pieces, and also the Brutalist movement. Love the bark effect. Great way to use up loose stones. Thank you so much for this demo! Best part was - NO MUSIC! What happens to the bark inside? Entombed forever? I also love your Quick Change Dremel - mine needs a wrench and drives me nuts.
Jason I want to purchase your book for beginners does the book cover how to make the dipping paint for the tree barks organic material to cover everything I need to know to have projects done thanks
Great video…. Only just come across you.. and really want to do this! But is the modge podge and graphite 50/50 mix good for leaves?… also what’s the mix for your tank…l can’t find it..
Hi @Jason Welsh could you please make a video about how get a shine straight out of the tank. I am working with your free solution recipe. I used the brightener recipe you shared and set the power supply as you recommend yet I am having a dull salmon colored result that is not shiny and in fact a very flat finish. So I was hoping you could make a start to finished piece tutorial piece. I seem just to missing something it would really help if you could get it all in one place.
I did do a video that refines the process of making electroforming solution and Brightners and tank maintenance all in one video. The content turned out so good I thought I would use it to fund other research. www.firstdensitymaterial.com/collections/recipes-for-electroforming
This is actually a jump ring, not a bail. The bail is wider and more decorative and matches the chain. You add that later. The jump ring is stuck to the pendant. Bails can be removed.
Liver of sulphur is to add patina to copper. If you want beight copper to stay bright you'll want some other kind of finish or exposure to air will darken it over time
@@ChaosoftheDivineFeminineLLC sorry not off the topmofnmy head becUss ei always do liver of sulfur. I would recommend getting a copy of the Riogrande catalog or even calling the company to see what finishing chemicals they could recommend. They sell basically everythingnyiu will ever need for jewelry making
Great demo, thank you! Question: why would you not glue the proper bail and the stone right away on the raw piece instead of plating part way, taking it out, and gluing them then? It seems to be an extra step that is not necessary? Or am I missing something?
I am so excited to have found this! Do you need to seal the finished pieces and does the protective coating on the rock stay on permanently or does it peal off after electroplating? Thank you so much.
Play around with different patents techniques. The item with come out ofnthe bath rathe pink. Pure copper. You can get some shine by carefully polishing/buffing it (by hand with barkeepers friend for instance or with a soft wheel on a dremel. Just dont go over board and break through you micronfineblayer) or play with different chemical treatments. A longnsoak in liver of sulphur for instance can get you to matte black. A quick dip inthe dame chemical when very hot followed by a dip in ice water sometimes gives you a bit of rainbow. Buy a bit of copper sheet or pipe for experimenting on. The liver of sulphur is like7 bucks on Amazon for the concentrated gel and will last forever.
Hi! I tried this with a pine cone and it started smoking in the bath….had to pull it out. Maybe my settings weren’t right on the bath? If you have any advice please let me know :) I would like to try it again and get it right
Hi Jason. I just bought your recipes and today is the 1st time when I'm gonna use them. Can you tell me please, should I seal the bark tree before the conductive paint?
Hi, I've been struggling to get the copper to plate onto some leaves. Ive painted them with graphite mixed with mod podge, but it did not work. The metal clasp did get coated, however. I dont know if its the solution, the voltage or the paint. Ive tried 3 different paints thus far. Any helpful tips?
If it's not plating then you have not mixed enough graphite to your modge podge, keep adding graphite and test it on something until it allows the current to flow :)
Thanks. I got your recipes! Amazing. Could you share where you get the liver of sulfur? and other methods of reaching different types of finish please? So excited 🙂
Isn't this electroplating? You are coating the bark in copper-the bark is still present in the finished piece. Electroforming would be creating a copper bark but removing the original tree bark, so your copper version is separate.
Thank you so much for this video! May I ask which Los you use? Mine turns the piece lack but extremely Mattson colour even if it has been polished prior. Thanks!
Could you show breaking a part? I guess since the copper is only a few atoms in thickness, the piece just has the strength of bark + modpodge or am i wrong?
You can form the copper to whatever thickness you like, if you want it to last you have to leave it in until it reaches the desired thickness, the longer it is in the solution the ticker it will be :)
The support bars look like maybe 8 or 6 gauge grounding wire. He said he's using the strands from 14 gauge stranded wire to attach to each piece. As long as it's conductive and supports the weight of your work, any copper wire gauge is gonna work, this doesn't take a whole lot of current so you should be good with mostly anything

so beautiful
Jason, your pieces are amazing! I aspire to be as good as you some day! I wish you had classes so I could learn from you!

Awesome tutorial. It was quite relaxing to watch the process happen. Well done!
Awesome video! You said the dipping paint eats super glue.. so how come it didn't dissolve the point where the hanging wire was glued?
Did you find out the answer to this? I'm really struggling to understand too
I think he painted over it.
I saw on another video a drop of super glue then sprinkle that with baking soda turns it rock hard...🤷🏼♀️
Thank you so much!!!!! Your channel is amazing!!
Does the LoS have any negative effect on the stone or can you dip any stone fully in it?
These are gorgeous!

Just a tip, put the bail on going front to back. That way a chain can go through without needing another bail.
This is actually a jump ring, not a bail. The bail is wider and more decorative and matches the chain. You add that later. The jump ring is stuck to the pendant. Bails can be removed.
wow very cool. how much is it to buy all the supplies?

I am in the UK and my only option is vinegar. Is it any good to plate with?

I believe he said the first solution would eat away the glue.
But he had glue on the first one
Really really interesting!! Thank you for this tutorial and i'd like to know if the site you provided to buy the materials ships worldwide?
Fantástico 🤩 👏👏👏💪
You should start linking you online store or way we can support and buy your pieces

I am wandering about this coating too. I would love to remove it from a stone.
love the look
So I’m a newbie. How do I achieve the more golden color

could you solder the jump ring on instead of the super glue and baking soda method? I want an all natural look
Muchas gracias muy interesante e instructivo
that was interesting.
Great video! Are there any type of stones you have found that cannot be used in the bath?
I wonder why Sherri Haab says that with organic material, like this bark, you MUST seal it first but Welsh clearly shows that is not necessary
I believe the ingredients in Jason's paint for organics seal the piece at the same time that it's coated with graphite paint. Genius!
If I’m a beginner what would u recommend? Can I blow up making the solution if I don’t do it right lol
That part
Excellent! Thank you!
What does the baking soda do?
Is the baking soda just to add texture, or does it serve some other purpose?
It basically just instantly dries the superglue.
Can you make it with Brass ? Or you can only make using copper

This was so helpful and interesting and fun, thank you!
Is that rock top coat nail polish?
Are these tree barks really hard after electroplating? So they won’t brake and last a while ?
I wanted to know do you still have the classes updated on thinkirifc?

If it's not plating then you have not mixed enough graphite to your modge podge, keep adding graphite and test it on something until it allows the current to flow :)
@vmk If the flower is floating, you need to use heavier copper wire to hold keep it submerged in the solution.
Thanks. I got your recipes! Amazing.

You can buy off of Rio Grande website. Or any local jewellery making shop

How long do you allow the super glue to dry before you paint it?
anyone know of any art and craft schools in US that offer electroplating?
Have you ever electroplated a rose?
Thanks!
I didnt have baking soda around so used baking powder. Hope thats okay!
Do you sell these products? And if you do where!
