@@selectiveapathy So you agree the seals´ whole birthing and nursing time period shoud be ruined because of selfishness and narcissisms of people whose only thinking process is "me, me, meeee" ? Yes, you do.
@@estheraida5101I live in the area with office two blocks from the beach and I don't know anyone locally who goes down and harasses the seals like this.
Only thing that will change the situation is enacting laws locally to protect the area. You can tell the park ranger cant really do a whole lot in their current capacity other than educate. Sad sight to see.
Just ban people going on this beach... the only reason they have not banned it is due to to $$$ to La Jolla.... The state of California needs to step in with federal laws regardless of what the leaders are doing or not doing to ban this beach from the public...
Please respect wild life people! They need their space to take care of their babies. You wouldn’t like it if someone is getting too close to you & your children😟 people & their dumb phones!
Phones and guns have a common operator as neither put themselves to use…it’s the PEOPLE and many people for whatever reason are no respecter of persons OR animals. They are the person who stands too close to you in line, or tailgates your bumper for no reason or gets in a sea lions territory. They are idiots and I can’t stand them.
This wouldn't have happened to this extent if not for those wonderful cell phones that people need to record and share every moment of their lives on. It's why I don't have one, they make people stupid.
Temporarily ban people from being on the beach while mothers are nursing. Give these animals their space because the planet we call home is theirs as well. A permanent ban would be ideal.
It's heartbreaking, infuriating, and disgusting to see how careless, selfish and dumb people have become. Even as dumb teenagers out horsing around (back in the 80's) we knew not to disturb or harass the sealions. These aren't locals or native San Diegans doing this crap. Unfortunately, it's not gonna stop unless they block access to the beach. Even then, I'm sure some idiots will still do it, it's just the way people have become (no respect), but hopefully it can be minimized.
Completely agree with the advocate. There are so many more beaches for tourists to swim at, why disturb this tiny sanctuary that clearly should be the seal/sea lions' safe haven nursery and resting place.
They are reactive, not proactive. When someone gets seriously injured and are ready to sue the city only when they will take action. I don't know what's happening to our society, but it's scary
Out of all the beach space, they honestly cant give that area to the sea lions, they talk about "balance"; theres no balance when people are that close. This is sea lions natural habitat, give them their space. Didnt think people could be so dense and get that close, its no wonder zoos have barriers.
I grew swimming in that magical place. Long before the Sealions and disproportionate amount of tourists. I can't even get near that place during the summer season now..
0:58 this girl and her friend do not give two F about wildlife. Idiot girls, just leave the seals in peace, stupid comment. She needs others to tell her not to be a garbage human being.
Every year these people do this in La Jolla and I don’t understand why no barriers are set up to protect the sea lions, especially since it’s pup season. There are many spots these people can go to in La Jolla with no sea lions, I mean just a few blocks away, so it’s frustrating. Also if they do try and touch one it’s 10k fine. If one bites you it’s going to cost extra as well because these things can do damage and have bacteria in their mouths.
All the people that are so upset about this sea lion problem should stop wasting their time with these comments and instead they should write letters to the federal government that oversees the amounts of fish the the commercial fisheries industry is allowed to harvest and the mile long nets that they are allowed to use that completely wipes out millions of fish that these seals and gamefish rely on to survive. They wipeout millions and millions of fish as they come close to shore to spawn thus making them susceptible to being easily exploited with no regard for their place in the ecosystem. The gamefish, birds, seals and normal people now have to target other fish species that don’t multiply as quickly because the sardines, herring, menhaden or squid that used to be readily available keep getting wiped out by the greedy commercial fishing industry and the tactics used and approved by the division of fisheries. End result is wild creatures of all types have to go where the food is and where it used to be. They managed to do what was thought impossible and depleted all the fish in George’s Bank a large area off of Cape Cod that was paved with cod, haddock, Pollock, halibut, swordfish, herring……. everything all gone now. Idiots filling their pockets now with no regard whatsoever for the future.
It’s sad that there has to be more than ONE sign. This place has MANY signs and it’s still not enough. Common sense is no longer these days. What’s worse is that if the animal protects themselves and hurts someone, the animal is put down or punished. I agree that the stupid human should be fined or arrested.
Civil penalties are up to $34,457 for violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act. Just write a few tickets and people will give the animals space very quickly.
Just seeing this video breaks my heart😢why can’t they leave them alone the seals sound so stressed all them people should get fined unbelievable hope they can find a better way to protect these animals!!!!
La Jolla residents made it this way lately! It was just a little problem some 25 years ago! Want more money for free from tourists now it’s a mess! What’s still going well in La Jolla and thriving lately?❤😢
That’s the only beach with access to the sea in LaJolla cove. Many responsible people use it to swim every day. The people harassing the sea lions need to stop!
Where the heck are the lifeguards and why are people allowed down there right now? These people aren’t there for Beach access. Just keep the people out and be done with it.
We San Diegans must take it upon ourselves to viciously start making ‘orting’ sounds at tourists whenever we see them messing with the sea lions. It freaks people out and they will leave.
They wanna risk there life's just to get a picture until someone gets bit or killed by one then they'll do something about it . There can be several signs to stay back as you can see when the lady was talking the man behind her didn't care lol
Remove a quarter mile of property from the shoreline and fence up beach access from Windasea to the La Jolla cove then 😂. Hopefully orcas come through and stick around
Close this space off. They can observe them from above. They are going to wait until a person gets hurt and then they will blame the animals. Give access to scuba divers but everyone else can just enjoy from above.
There should be an area just for the sea lions so they can have privacy to feed and care for their young. Why do humans always have to ruin everything?
I grew up swimming here, but now that the seals have taken it over it smells like a cesspool. There are warning signs all over about dangerous bacteria levels in the water because of all the seal poop. It's a shame what bad policies have done to this city. Also a shame that every comment on this was made by a bot.
It's all about getting a good photo to post on your social media account that YOU were there and YOU captured it with your cellphone. All it takes is people who follow these people on Social Media to tell them how stupid they are for bothering the animals.
At one point the cove was closed during pupping. Of course, those whiners who thought that was an infringement of their personal space on the beach, got their way and now we have this. At some point someone who failed to obey the signage will be injured or maimed. Quit giving in to the whiners.
There are plenty of warnings and signs- people who don’t care and have no common sense are the problem. I can’t go there because I get so upset. There is no reason to get so close. Some go there to swim, which is not an issue. But most come specifically to get close to the animals. THOSE are the people who need to smarten up and start respecting wildlife.
Just the sea lions take a bite of human flesh, then they’ll find out the way but I gotta say…. it’s great seeing the sea lions in their natural habitat rather than the theme parks aka sea world.
I hate confrontation, but if you continue “informing” and never get around to “enforcing” the law, people will push their limits until things get worse. Pups will die from stress and someone will get bitten. It’s inevitable.

This is so disturbing infuriating. The seals are supposed to be protected. We are not protecting them get these people off the beach. 😡🤬😤
In Hawaii they rope them off and people volunteer to watch them. Monk seals and they will definitely bite you.
The area should closed down. This is ridiculous.

( money)
It's one of the richest places on Earth. Money is all that counts
Temporarily ban people from being on the beach while mothers are nursing. Give these animals their space because the planet we call home is theirs as well. A permanent ban would be ideal.
Amen
It used to be closed to the public u could only look at them but they opened it up so now people can walk down there dnt ask why🤷🏽🤦♂️

Designate that area exclusively to the sea lions..

Leave them alone. Respect!!
In Hawaii they are VERY PROACTIVE in protecting their monk seals and YES people are fined for getting too close and harassing them.

Apparently yes
What are all those people doing trespassing on the rookeries like that?! They need to stand way back and give those animals room to nurse and rest.

Block it off preventing people from approaching
Block it off from the sea lions.
