11:46 Drew that's because of William Walker. He took over Nicaragua for a few months before he got defeated by the Costa Rican army which had some help from Cornelius Vanderbilt.
I think that in the first map, the smog from the volcano moved north and spread out due to wind. The smog covering the sun caused all life to die, making the land uninhabitable.
The "Gates of Alexander " is an actual story from "Alexander's Romance" where he and the Greeks built a giant barrier wall in the caucasus to keep out the Gog and Magog who have been depicted as man eating giants in many medieval illustrations.

Hey Drew, if you're curious why the US has Nicaragua in 12:05, it's because a Tennessee lawyer had a crazy ambition to be a leader of a foreign country. And he did do that. And that map showed if they US went imperial, they would turn that country into a state. EDIT: The lawyer's name is William Walker.
Ok, so I think the reason America owned Nicaragua was because during the cold war, Nicaragua had a communist junta on the loose. America stopped the communists in Nicaragua, and then made it as a state. - By the way, this is what I think.
10:10 I think Australia derived from Antarctica originally being called Terra Australis, so its name would most likely be Australis, Terra Australia or just stay as Australia
7:43 It's not a reference to a Klondike Bar, but it is supposed to be a reference to the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897. A bunch of people "Klondikers" had given up their jobs and homes to rush as quickly as possible to Dawson City.
The Eureka Stockade happened in my home city of Ballarat, I wouldn't say it was entirely a failure in our reality. It led to Victoria allowing for elected officials in Parliament, and arguably led to our own independence from the UK. The stockade is still important in Australian history today, with its flag often being an option in debates about changing our flag, and many pro-Republican groups using the flag as a symbol (pro-Republican as in wanting to remove the Queen and have a president or other non-monarchical had of state, not American Republicanism). It is nice to see an event from my own city make its way into a video about alt history though.
Drew The Red in 11:15 is just Territories, They are not states yet just like how Alaska and Hawaii were just territories and not states during WW1 and WW2

Oh my gosh, my need, nay lust, to explore a desert that does not exist is growing unbearable. Thankfully, I will be going to the very real Imperial Sand Dunes next week for the ninth time.
