  • I have been making Wooden Boxes for almost 20 years and have loved every minute of it. So I hope these videos inspire you to get into box making and create your very own Wooden Boxes.
    How to make a keepsake box - this is the most efficient way to make a basic veneered Wooden Keepsake Box. It is also a great gift for a friend or loved one.
    Part 8 focuses on adding some final touches as well as adding the box base. The final video will cover lining the interior base, polishing screws and adding the hardware.
    In future projects I will go into greater detail on how to get perfect grain matches at corners, lock fitting, finishing and much much more.
    Regards Ian

    Love the way the base is fitted! I’ve been looking for a better way to do this for years. Thanks Ian and Kate.

    Hi Ian. Why don’t you cut the chamfers on the lid and base before routing the hinges ?
    Great series btw

      Hi Jack, sometimes I do but I never add the chamfer at the back where the hinges will be cut as this can allow for some breakout! thanks!!

    What are your thoughts on doing the chamfers for the separation on the router table before mortising for the hinges?

    • @ianhawthorne7240
      @ianhawthorne7240  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a way I have used in the past, just don;t make them too big or it takes away from the box!!

    • @aaalharmi

      Hi Ian, started working on the box a couple of weeks. Going well so far. I did the chamfer revealing some sycamore as suggested ; I was wondering if the inside edges of the separation needs some sanding, it’s seems quite sharp.

    • @ianhawthorne7240
      @ianhawthorne7240  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaalharmi You can add a very small chamfer to the inside edges to take the sharp edge off.

    great video (again!) What are your thoughts on spray adhesives for leather and fabric instead of doublesided tape?

    • @ianhawthorne7240
      @ianhawthorne7240  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose it would work as well but its messy and we prefer the tape!

    Looking good Ian. Can you give me the name and model number of your table saw please? I’m up for a new one and yours seems the right size for my workshop. Thanks and looking forward to next week.
