I think that's the way it happens. I remember when I started making prints a million years ago, I used the very magnifier in the video, then some time later I discovered the grain magnifier. What I am finding now is with the cool temperature LED light source, negatives stay in focus. I think I can even switch negatives and have the focus stay intact... but I still check every one.
When I started the hobby a good 2 years ago I found it very difficult to work with a grain focuser. Now I can't live without it
