Im a Malaysian chinese but I like so much on our nasi kerabu, lemak salai, rendang, tosai, banana leafs, nasi beriani & sarawak laksa. I have learned to embrace our unique diversity since young, respect people of different ethinicy, & work together to contribute for this lovely country. When a foreigner ask me where are you from? I'll just tell em Malaysia proudly. ❤

iChang, I think you might want to think about writing a book about your experiences in and around Malaysia.
As a Malaysian, I know that I have become accustomed to certain things and also take for granted some others.
But you lend a uniquely new perspective on things as you discover what Malaysia has to offer and what Malaysian really means.

Biarlah... They already mentioned that they're confused by the diversity. Sabah & Sarawak rarely get mentioned by many travel vloggers even by those who vlog heavily about Malaysia. I guess it's because we are a minority and that means we wouldn't contribute much to the growth of their channels. Least mentioned is out traditional food! And when Sarawak or Sabah food is featured, they're usually Chinese food.

I've never left comment before but iChang's take on the strength of a united diversity touched me so much.

    • @senadzri
      @senadzri ปีที่แล้ว +16

Not just politics, we rarely talk about our differences because it's considered 'sensitive issue' especially in religion. That makes the understanding and acceptance hard whereas interfaith dialogue should be encouraged more without diluting our core principles. Most people will be mad but vernacular school, man. I know our public school systems have weaknesses but we see less and lesser multiracial public schools other than probably in missionary school like Convent, but then most Muslims reluctant to sent their kids to Convent for quite an obvious reasons. These things aren't going nowhere if we didn't start to make that conversation... I think 🙂

Now you're talking guys, about the standards of food. Now you two have really become localised like true malaysians. That's exactly how I feel, and almost all malaysians do too, about the food sold out there. As for me, I usually would have a fairly good sense of how the food would taste upon eating, from looking at the way it looks before buying, its color, texture, etc and I'd be more or less correct 80-90% of the time. This expertise of sort, came from years of experience, that is the experience of having a variety of absolutely delicious home made traditional malay kuihs by my own mother during my school age. For eg _kuih seri muka_ I know if the color looks certain kind of green then it won't be tasty, similarly if the texture looks too "solid or well built" (instead of kinda jiggly or a bit soft, for both the green top and the _pulut_ bottom). So don't view it as a bad thing, instead take it as an upgrade, which is a very good thing, so now you two have left the novice/newbie stage and have entered stage 2 towards eventually becoming real experts in malaysian food! 😅

It's fantastic to know that you've gotten to know this place very well, that you've picked up on our culture quickly, and that you've shared your feedback with us from a foreigner's point of view. While some countries in this region may also have diversity like us, but we do not share their national policies. Malaysia doesn't follow their assimilation policy, which mandates that before people can become citizens, they must first conform to a single language and culture. We permit our citizens to uphold their traditions, languages, religions, and educational institutions so long as everyone adheres to the same laws that apply to all citizens. The fact that we allow people to be who they are and value and meld our differences as Malaysians is the reason why you view Malaysia as the most diverse country in this region because you spot the different among us almost immdiately. When you stay longer with us, we hope you will learn more about us and develop an even deeper love for Malaysia. We appreciate your warm words about us. Thank you so much.🙏🙏

I loved every bit of Ichang’s explanation about Malaysians culture !! She managed to pin point all these small yet TRUE fact that we have taken for grunted in our daily life as to how cool Malaysians are actually . Honestly . As she explain , I’m like …this girl is really good in analysing and understanding cultures . We Malaysians know how we are but we just didn’t bother explaining so much and we somehow just go with …yeah Malaysia is VERY DIVERSE . The end..I mean there is more but I hang is really good !! She reminds me of the day when back in school where we have to describe Malaysia culture😂.
Moving on ! The part about assimilating in to diff culture ! That is very true . Trust me we Malaysians do have the BUILT IN SKILLS TO DO THAT ! In most cases it’s because Malaysians are just to lazy to make a name for themselves or is just lazy to put themself out there that makes us “ NOT SO” recogniseable 😂😂. But gurl we are cool !
Also , the food …yes man. That’s why Malaysians are willing to travel and queue for hours just for food . Cause we are some good food judged 😂…

Yes, the longer you stay in Malaysia, you’ll discover the diversity is beyond Malay, Chinese, Indian and others. Yes, even the Malay spoken language can be quite different in Kelantan and KL (this is known as loghat/ language dialect). Likewise for the Chinese, there are different dialect groups, which have different culture, Chinese language and food. Wait till you travel to Borneo Malaysia and you’ll discover even more diversity among Sabahian and Sarawakian. Having said that, even in Penang or Melaka, you can discover more of Peranakan culture, and the Minangkabau of Negeri Sembilan (their food i believe is known to be very pedas lol)
It’s fine to judge the food. It’s just simply preference. Take laksa for example, some people may not like the fish based broth of the east coast, or the taste assam laksa. Some people may prefer thicker broth for some broth noodle dish. Even Ramly burger, everyone has their own favourite stall in KL alone as they are prepared differently.
As for house cicak, ya, they can be quite an annoyance with their poop, and some times their might drop on to you especially if they fight, and it can be quite surprising! They eat insects, so if your place is free of insects, slowly gradually their numbers reduce. But ya, cicak trap is a good idea too 😂

I believe each country has their good and bad, and I feel a lot more prouder to be a Malaysian now that someone like you from Japan. Thank you!!! Also, don't worry about standard. Different states actually have different taste and ingredients albeit it is called the same dish; Asam Pedas. Some states actually use different fishes and the soup varies too because of the ingredients available around them and produce. でも頑張ってね!

Hi ichang and jimmy. Both of you does not have to adapt or follow the others culture. Both of you just need to be yourself as who you are, as how others do. They dont follow each other, but do their own thing and respect differences from others . Both of you will do fine. Most Japanese in japan expects tourists that came to their country to follow and adapt to their culture in their own country. But us malaysians dont mind if tourists dont understand and couldn't follow our cultures because we understand they're not from our country and they have their own culture. As long as we live in peaceful and harmony, all will be fine

Please discover regional foods. It will be interesting as the food you find in Pahang, for example, will be different than the food in Negeri Sembilan which will be different from the food in Sabah. Not just the main meals, but snacks, exotic food, kuih, fruits (don't forget to try the Bornean fruit, tarap) and many more. While doing that, you will also experience different cultures. One thing you can do, as well, is community outreach and service. You have proven in your previous videos, you are the people's favourites, especially in Malaysia.
Lastly, more videos please. Don't worry about editing too much. Your subscribers care more about the contents and your pure passion towards Malaysia than the visual effects/SFX.

Eat at home more tasty then eat at restaurants.. because we know what kind food and taste we want.. if u notice . Eat at someone house more tasty then restaurant or stall .. of course some restaurants taste better then house . But sometime it’s to far from house ..or hard to get..

If you realized, not all of their videos are about food, they are about humanity, emotions, friendships, relationships, adventures, desires, discoveries and many more. They can explore more on these qualities by putting themselves out there.
Being able to stay for more than 90 days in Malaysia is their chance to grow their channel and maybe even their business or brand in the future. When they are successful in Malaysia, it's a win-win situation for all.

Ichang and Jimmy you can try planting Mexican Oregano/Lippia graveolens to keep Lizards, cockcroaches and mosquitoes away. Very easy to plant from stem cutting. Station your potted Oregano near your doorways, windows and throw some leaves inside your cabinets. You can find green leaves and also variegated leaves oregano. Both are pretty and smells good. Can also stick stems into a jar of water and it will start rooting. However, the scent would be more potent when plant in a pot with soil. 19:06 19:06

No, this plant doesn't work to keep d lizards away, as my contractor recommended me to grow it in my garden. D lizards happily pooped on this plant's leaves. I've lots of them in my garden as I keep a florescent light on for d duration of d nite(where there r plenty of insects to feed on). As for Jimmy's suggestion on using d elastic to shoot down d lizards, dat's a great way to reduce their population!! Only thing is I'm a poor shot at using d elastic thinghy(I've tried with dismal results!). At one time, I think my siblings did use d sticky sap of d jackfruit tree, stick it on d top of a long pole and zap it on d lizard which will stick on d sap and can't wiggle itself out of d trap!

As a Malaysian who has travelled and stayed in many countries abroad east and west, including countries that deemed to be "diverse in culture", there's something different and special in the way Malaysia is diverse in culture. Like many have said, we are a melting pot of cultures whereas, possibly, in other countries with many different cultures and ethnicity may live together but do not integrate with one another like we do. That is something I believe is only special to Malaysia and Malaysians. I think that is why we are a lot more ready to be open minded to differences in culture for as long as we can live together peacefully.

I would use a "lastik" to hunt for the cicaks, and we noticed a significant decrease in their numbers around the house. It was quite an enjoyable experience, but looking back, I realize that it may not have been the most humane way to feed my pet fish. Additionally, I may have contributed to the reduction of cicaks in the area. Yeay!!
