I love how humbly Scott, Gillian, and Paul are singing along with him. This was a pretty goofy episode, but this song...you just stop everything else when you hear it.
Couldn't agree more such a good ep. Just goes to show that maybe it's just me but for me the special guest really makes or breaks an ep. This is one of my faves cuz he was such a good sport.
Earwolf's sound engineers are fantastic. Colin Hay's and the Hallelujah the Hills (Improv4Humans) live performances are so top notch in both the artist's talents and the sound quality.
I'm back. Hospitals still short staffed, dangerously so; Omicron is spreading; the winter storms finally came, good for ground water, hopefully no drought this coming summer; Manitoba socials are still not happening, that means New Years Eve, too, especially since a friend's mom has Covid. Next Year, I hope.
So glad to discover this was captured on video, I've gone back and listened to this performance on the podcast many times and it makes me choke up every time.
I live in Sydney these days, but am originally from the country, and this song perfectly captures the struggle of farmers and other people on the land. An absolutely beautiful song that Mr Hay should be very, very proud of.
I love Scott and Paul...they are my gen-x spirit animals....they are my age, and their references are so dialed in to what I experienced growing up... similar childhoods (tough at times), I just love listening to whatever Scott and Paul do... Threedom is fun.... so many references.... and even here, Scott and Paul were in high school (like me) when Men At Work were all the rage....and, Scott and Paul loooove to sing, like me!
This was one of the moments that made me use Scott Aukerman as a foundation of my life. I would not have made his choices, and I don’t pretend to know much about him, the older I get the more I don’t know about either of those really. But he made this be. If I can be half the man he has been to me to someone else, that is my goal. I won’t meet him, nor do I expect this video to retain my comment. But I want to whisper off a cliff, scream into a dune, talk to the waves, and what I say is that Scott Aukerman is the father I always think I wanted. I stand by a fire in the rude wind, Should not a sea by on my feat? To take from this is to fear on your own legs.
Ive seen Colin live twice and both times he stayed and met anyone that wanted to speak to him or get something signed. Great guy with an amazing voice.
I had just always assumed it was loosely about the families dealing with the SE Australia "dust bowl" period, from roughly 1900 to 1950. . or really any locality in which that particular hardship struck; the american west in the 1930s, etc.. Nonetheless, to me, this is one extremely powerful song, it gets deeper each time i hear it,...as does Mr. Grogan... off the same LP. If you don't own it, you may want to grab a copy. Cheers.
For years I have been singing this to my kids as a bedtime nursery rhyme of sorts. I’ll be an old man singing this to my grandkids one day I can hope.

Yes, the respect.
When everyone chimed in my heart has never melted more
Just heard this referenced on Threedom podcast. Great song. Wish I would have heard it a year ago. Would have played it all 2020.
COVID-19 always brings me back to this song.

I keep re-listening to this episode for for some reason... or maybe every reason. It's a lotta silly with great music Included
Such a great CBB episode. Colin Hay's comedic contributions were just as great as his musical ones. Bought the album after hearing it.
Just discovered this song, I will hold on to it during Covid-19 Lock Down and Curfew between 9 pm - 5 am❤
And now, bad drought and bad fires, as well. Hopefully all this chaos ends soon. Next Year.

LOVE Paul's shuffle to throw on headphones.... The thing he hates...
I love Colin Hay. In these modern days he's so underrated. This whole new album is brilliant

the night harris died i sat in my room listening to this on repeat
Ive said I've said it before and I'll say it again before but I'll say I've said it before and I'll say it again again.
😞
I was doing the same. Haunting.
One of my favorite episodes Hot Saucerman has had with a musician, you got a one record CBB bump!
I think all the eps with musicians I've seen were winners. Tears for fears were great.
CBB is my life. Colin Hay is the soundtrack. You must stop everything hearing this rendition. Timeless.
Every new year I return to this.

Such a beautiful haunting song. Such a joy to have Colin Hay on CBB. Immediately bought the album on the back of this
Gilly!
...Sorry.
Gorgeous song.
An absolute master class in story telling. I want things to come good for the people in the song. They deserve to dance.
this is my new years anthem
My favorite album! Best concert ever at the largo! My daughter made me a tee shirt “next year people” for Christmas.
Big NYE2020 vibe here.

Brilliant a master
I wonder what lenses/cameras are being used here.
Tyler Hanson My guess is a DSLR. from the looks of it, something with a wonderfully low f-stop. I'm curious too.
