    A suggestion for the hose tool is to cut a piece of cardboard to fit around the tool so your other hand is left free for whatever else may need to be covered or turn off the vac.

    I have a P68. It might sound a little unconventional but when I do routine cleaning (not all this stuff, just the occasional clean-out during the season), I turn the unit on while I'm doing it. Open the door to do your cleaning/sweeping the inside, emptying the ash, etc. It won't ignite and it won't feed, but the combustion fan will run. This really cuts down on the crummy ash dust coming at you as it is being sucked out the exhaust pipe while you're cleaning. It all just gets sucked toward the stove and out the pipe. This was a great video, thanks for the tips. I did not know about that 'fines' clean-out and now I'm going to do it after 3 years. Its probably packed with crap.

    Oh man,,I have never cleaned out the back of my stove ever and it's over 10 years old! Better late than never, thank you so much. I'm mortified at the amount of dust bunny build up back there, like under a hoarders bed, lol. I have to clean where the fines are, I'm nervous to look but once it's cool I'm diving in. Hopefully this will solve it constantly shutting down, that's a problem.

    Using a nail (I used a small sheetrock screw) to clean out the vent holes in the burn pot. Between this and all the other tips I got past the 6 blinks problem! I think one other thing was not clear to me was that it is important when you are done cleaning to do a reset of the stove in case it had turned off due to the blinking scenario. Once I did that she fired up with a beautiful flame! I have the 25th Anniversary Harman Stove. Thanks again for your great videos!!

    I though I would have to purchase a new igniter, stove just wouldn't fire up and I was manually starting it. I got tired of doing that so decided to watch a few videos, this was the best! Once the stove was cool, I bravely reached in and twisted the thumb screws loose and took the plate off. What a bunch of stuff that dropped out! I replaced the plate and thumb screws and VOILA! the igniter worked! Thanks for the video. When I get brave I'll take the panel off and clean out all those fines.

    Great job and very instructive. I've neglected getting into the back over the years and will followup on vacuuming back there as well. As far as the ESP (Exhaust Sensing Probe), I've found I can get to that when I'm cleaning the fan and the exhaust tubing. I take a long handled brush and brush within that exhaust tube and using good flashlight am able to clean the ESP as well.

    I clean the fine box and ESP probe after every ton of pellets, because I run my chimney brush also, and the probe is out of the way.

    Excellent video I really appreciate the camera work. I have a much lower quality box store pellet stove & to eliminate "FINES" I run my pellets over a 1/4" screen before putting them into the stove. If I did not screen out the fines I'd have to shut down my stove daily to vacuum the fines out of the auger feed versus your high end Harman that could probably go for a month or longer.

    Yes I just watched my pellet technician put the shop vac hose in the back and blow all the ashes through the front. I couldn't believe how much ash came out. Another place most people dont know about is taking of the front grill that covers the combustible blower fan paddle. Lots of ash gathers tree as well.

    I had a scary deal with are 5 yr. old p 43.. It wouldn't stop burning and heating,, room and stove were getting super hot. Lucky we were there, pulled the plug and waited for it to get cooled off. I removed all panels to look for any obvious reasons and cleaned the ESP probe, it was rusted quite well.
    Got it shiny with 300 grit paper..
    Also cleaned ash, window, burn pot, igniter... It all works as it should now..

    I have 2 questions please.
    1) Does the p43 go thru a cool down/shut down period it goes through
    should it run out of pellets?
    2) Can you add pellets to the hopper while it's running?
    Cleanliness works. After running an Englander for 14 years, (only 2 auger
    motors needed) we are replacing it with a Harman. The biggest difference
    between the Englander and Harman was the Englander did NOT have an
    ashpan. It HAD to be vacuumed out after each daily burn. We are in Maine
    so in the winter it was run almost 24/7 for months.

Too much ash around it will have trouble lighting pellets. I am using my third pellet stove. Hey Jim, what steps do you follow to scrape the firebox while the stove is still on? We have a P43 and the instructions don't specify if you have to turn the fan down, slow the feed, etc. Last night I just simply opened the door slightly, waited a few seconds for the flame to get smaller then opened it all the way, quickly scraped and shut the door. Eventually the ambers reignited and it was back to normal. No adjustments were made to any controls. It works but unsure if that is the safest way

    Did you add 2 extra blocks and turned them upright? I need ti do that. We bought our house and it came with a harman pallet stove as-is in the garage owner said just stopped working. Long story short would bet he never cleaned anything one time everything was sold ash inside. Couldn't see the fan blades behind the ash pan or a good 6 in. into the stack just past the O2 sensor. 6 years later still going strong doesn't see much use wish was inside the basement and not the garage but helps if need to work out there in the winters.

    I used a backpack leaf blower to blow the unit out. Found out that the unit really had a lot of fine dust which acts like a insulator preventing efficient heat transfer. I used a rotary nylon brush on my cordless drill to really remove the filth from the unit. The two prong attack worked really well. Thanks for the education JIM.......

    Thanks for this info Jim. Always like your input because it is application specific eg: Harman stoves.You could include a 4 th spot to clean as you are in there any way and that would be the distribution and exhaust motor squirrel cage fins and fan on exhaust motor blade. Yours looked pretty good but some homes have a lot of dust in them, like ours, and it collects on those areas overtime. A paint brush works well with vacuum.

    No , I have never blown out the dust like that and I never would. The way you do it with the vacuum part is the way that it should be done. The only thing that I would suggest is to take the handle end of a screw driver and tap on the burner pot where all of the holes are on top. That will help the vac to suck up any dust in the igniter area. I have had my Harman for 5 years now and never had a problem by cleaning it that way.

      Jim, I am excited that I got the probe out. I had another suggestion of getting a dryer brush and reaching in there and trying to brush off the crud. But with my luck I would have bent or broke the probe. Then I got to thinking (usually ends me in trouble if you know what I mean). You said to clean it with window cleaner, so I got a bottle out and gave it a couple of squirts around the top of the probe and let it sit for a day or so. Tried it and it came out a little bit so, I kept this up until it came out. I never pulled hard or rushed the process either. Now to clean it and put everything back together and this will be my best cleaning ever. Thanks so much!

    One suggestion I do when cleaning is, instead of wearing a mask I simply leave my vacuum hose running just inside top door and no ash will escape. Been doing this since after the first time cleaning. It works great. Put hose just inside bottom door when doing bottom of stove. I think your video is great and covers the three places that don't normally get checked. I also (with stove unplugged) use a horse hair round brush attached to vacuum hose and clean screens around both induction blower and exhaust motors. I do wish they would come up with a brush or something better than the tool that comes with stove, to clean the ripples in roof of fire box. If anyone has a better idea please let me know.

    • @Robyrob7771
      @Robyrob7771 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Robyrob7771
      @Robyrob7771 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once per year I also clean the feed chute. Remove feed motor then two bolts hold the auger in pull that. Chip out the build up from the pellets. Too much build up will cause a “log jam”, don’t ask how I know.

    You must burn crappy pellets I might get a table spoon or so once a year out of my XXV and my p68 fines box. Your most important things to clean to me are burn pot for ignition the blower motor to move heat and the heat exchanger inside on top with paint brush for heat if you feel your not getting much heat it's because Ash is insulating heat exchanger. You should only use scotch brite pad on esp that's why yours is rusty never use cleaner on esp probe. The fins on that distribution fan gets air restriction with very little dust.

    I was all-in listening until you mentioned wearing a mask "because you know what time of year this is" ... apparently FORGETTING THAT MASKS DO NOTHING at "this time of year" or any other regarding illness - never did, never will. Can't put my faith in a person who can't think rationally ... what good is advice from a person like that?

    I'm hoping after i clean my esp probe my p43 starts working again. Never cleaned it the 5 years I used it. Haven't used it in 4 years because it won't work. But thanks to Biden I'm gonna have to start again.
