I can't imagine what it must have been like to hear the early Animals songs at this concert in '74 and then never hearing them again until Animal's release 3 years later all new and redeveloped.
~ I remember an article in Circus magazine when "Animals" was first released where the reviewer said "Sheep" sounds like a reworking of "Astronomy Domine" with a bit of "Interstellar Overdrive" thrown in. Weird how I remember that after all these years.
I can't say I like this better than the finished version which appeared on Animals; they both can stand on their individual merits. I just really enjoy listening to PF songs in their infancy and seeing how they develop. What other band offers us a glimpse of material before it is finished? It's really special because Animals is probably my favorite album.
Michael S Pastorius - best part about PF is that you’ll listen to one of their songs and then find a different version of that song that’s badass in its own right.
Rick's whining, wailing and moaning synths are fantastic. Also in certain parts you can already feel the upcoming style of The Wall. Yet another true masterpiece!
This is how they began the show the first time I saw them. The whole first set was unreleased material: this along with "Got to be Crazy" and "Shine On..." I thought that was so cool, and a real thank you to the fans who were dying for new music.
I *LOVE* the begining of Raving and Drooling. When you hear Jimmy Young's "Rambling" slowly speeding up, only to be cut off by the blaring noise at the start, you HAVE to feel something from that. It's fucking intense.
Don’t know how I’ve never heard these early versions of my favorite Pink Floyd album. Anything I say about Pink Floyd would fail to adequately describe the impact their music has had on me, so I’ll stfu and chill with auto play on.
Great to hear this early draft version of one of my all-time favourite tracks! Thanks for sharing for those of us who haven't forked out for the box set! ;-)
I gave up smoking decades ago but I find myself wanting to reach for the vile bong, sit back and listen to this at very high volume on a pair of Klipsch La Scalas and a couple of 70s mono block transistor amps.
ThePaulv12 Once one’s life is in order and you can set aside 1 or 2 days comfortably, there is nothing wrong with smoking every now and again, as long as you can keep it from becoming regular and slowing down your life 😄
ThePaulv12 What do you work in if I may ask? I know working physically makes it near impossible to smoke on your free time considering the constant urine samples and checks they put you through.
three years before official release.... un*fckn*believable ~! those were the days when major sucsessful bands could try out new material on their audience... This vibe is none existing anymore Shame!
@Jared Burkhardt .....I was at this Wembley ( Empire Pool ) Concert in 1974, and can confirm that you are correct. Still got my Tickets, and programme in fact. Also saw the same set in the Colston Hall, Bristol too. There was an excellent Bootleg called Tour 74 about as well, recorded at the Bingley Hall, Stafford, which a LOT of people thought was the next Pink Floyd Album, as the quality was so good.....
Great instrumental early version of this song, but I will say the finished product with more lyrics sounds more complete and is a superior song. Ironically, the early version of Dogs had way too many words (David Gilmour almost sounds like he was rapping to try to get them all in), whereas here there are too few words. A very cool glimpse into the creative process for both songs.
Love this version and this song, which is purely Syd inspired, aka astronomy domine. The only song they did in the '70's dominated by that wild Barrett style guitar playing. To me it's always been a fitting tribute. Those who claim he had little influence on their later work are sorely mistaken.
This feels closer to Sheep then the early version of Dogs did. By the time both were recorded later they had become much more bittered by stardom and it showed in them.
8 months later, but i think what he means is this. After dark side they had immense pressure and couldn't come up with anything, later they had wish you were here and started to get even more mainstream, this resulted in the fans becoming shallow about pink floyd music and not really listening to the lyrics.Roger even spat on a fan(who was making a lot of noise and letting off fireworks, basically disrespecting the music i guess) during a cancert
Actually, the lyrics are already pretty vitriolic and bitter by this point. It was the music that would get somewhat harsher, although on this song in particular there is almost no difference in that respect.
[Verse 1] Raving and drooling, I fell on his neck with a scream He had a whole lot of terminal shock in his eye [Verse 2] That's what you get for pretending the rest are not real Babbling and snapping at far away flies He will zig zag his way back through memories of boredom and pain [Verse 3] How does it feel to be empty and angry and spaced Split up the middle between the illusion of safety in numbers And the fist in your face [Verse 1] Raving and drooling, I fell on his neck with a scream He had a whole lot of terminal shock in his eye [Verse 2] That's what you get for pretending the rest are not real Babbling and snapping at far away flies He will zig zag his way back through memories of boredom and pain [Verse 3] How does it feel to be empty and angry and spaced Split up the middle between the illusion of safety in numbers And the fist in your face
Sounds alot like Kraftwerk. Very similar. I didn't know that there was ever this song...WOW...and it was done in 1974.....Animals came out in 77 and Sheep was this song.
Er.. As a fan of both Kraftwerk and the magnificent P.F. that statement is utter rubbish.. This sounds nothing like any Kraftwerk recording I know... If he'd said Tangerine Dream (sans the vocals ) I may have offered a very faint YEAH but not Kraftwerk.
This is really great! In some ways better than the final version. Of all the Pink Floyd albums I listen to "Animals" the least (not counting post "The Wall" albums). The music is amazing, but the lyrics are a real downer. So depressing and negative. A song about getting cancer? Really?
And on bass we have rock's most over rated: Roger Waters. Ignore John Entwistle, Paul McCartney, Chris Squire and all of those other skilled virtuosoooze. Try to quench your thirst on his bouncy two notes for an hour. It is like chewing on salt. He really could be replaced by the keyboardist Richard Wright Simply using organ foot pedals. He was the guy that made Pink FLoyd sound like Floyd. Roger was just there to remind everyone what he contributed.
Umm fwiw this is a Roger Waters song and the others are jamming on his ideas. Without Roger there'd have been nothing of note at all. From various interviews I gather he was the main person that helped Syd to focus and get the early singles and first album done. After Syd's demise Roger was the person who came up with most of the concepts and the bulk of the song-writing. The material that made them absolute legends, from DSOTM on to the band's demise in the early-mid-80s were nearly all Roger's concepts and his direction that made it happen. The other three were very lucky indeed to have had two geniuses - Barrett and Waters - on which to hitch a ride. Rick's noodly keyboard atmospheres were certainly key to the sounds in the earlier years but by the mid-70s it was all done and he wasn't doing anything new and amazing. Hence it was rightfully put to the backseat and he was inevitably sadly fired. He's not an amazing keyboardist compared to what others were doing in the 70s. Rick was very lucky to have been in the band.
I can't imagine what it must have been like to hear the early Animals songs at this concert in '74 and then never hearing them again until Animal's release 3 years later all new and redeveloped.
Same with how they played dark side of the moon material before it’s release. I think it’s super freakin cool 😎
This concert in 1974 must have been un%^&**ing believable ! These guys are the best ! Never get tired of their music !
It was I can assure you. I was right at the front .My 1st of many PF gigs over many years.
Pink Floyd ❤
insane and dark bassline. best version of sheep in my humble opinion
More raw rock'n'roll
THat bass is like getting waterboarded at Guantanamo Bay.
This version has reminiscences of Astronomy Domine ...
Greatness!
I thought the same thing.
one of these days
Agreed, it comes from the same spacetime!

@@israelm4156 there are some early versions of Radiohead songs out there worth a listen too. Especially a very haunting early No Surprises.
Cases in point:
The man and the Journey
Embryo
Fat Old Sun (evolved off the album)
AHM
Echoes
Careful with that Axe Eugene
Same here!
Radiohead does.
Imagine tripping at this gig, amazing!
Rick's whining, wailing and moaning synths are fantastic. Also in certain parts you can already feel the upcoming style of The Wall. Yet another true masterpiece!
Has much more resemblance to early Pink Floyd than the 1977 release. I will always love this version more because of that.
Pink Floyd: the sound of freedom/memory/sadness/therapy by perfume of sounds
I agree 💜💎
This is how they began the show the first time I saw them. The whole first set was unreleased material: this along with "Got to be Crazy" and "Shine On..." I thought that was so cool, and a real thank you to the fans who were dying for new music.
Ghost: We do scary music with 70's vibes
Pink Floyd: Hold my Synth
impressive rythm by Nick !

I think I'm actually addicted to this
Awesome version. Thanks for sharing.. GOD BLESS..
Very glad that amazing outro made it onto the track on Animals.
Great version
With the low-end so heavy in the mix, that opening riff almost sounds like something Swans would play.
I gave up smoking decades ago but I find myself wanting to reach for the vile bong, sit back and listen to this at very high volume on a pair of Klipsch La Scalas and a couple of 70s mono block transistor amps.

@@RLQFK Unfortunately not in my job - either on holiday or not.

Great early rendition of Sheep! Y’all check out the early version of DOGS titled You’ve Got To Be Crazy.
nice version, animal its one of my favorites albums.

Shame!
eranzilber1 Ween has been known to try new songs during live shows; this practice still happens, but this is very unique!
How do you know it's 3 years before official release?
@Jared Burkhardt but how you know it's from 1974?

ricardo castro s...algo.de otro .
Theres alot of badass metal, but nothing as diabolique as pf.
What other band in the world can make you feel like this ?
Literally none
Do you want a list?
Maybe king crimson
I would say TOOL and Band of Gypsies or Hendrix Expierence
MASTERPIECE, AS ALMOST ANYTHING PINK FLOYD CREATED.
roger waters created...
its a trippppp

immense ! Pink Floyd rebirth ! immortel ! magnifique ! Pf, la définition de la musique ! de l'art à l'état pur !
It's like New Floyd! lol :)
Great Version.
loved this version when i first heard it 74 winter gardens bootleg
TOO. FKING. AWESOME. Was so happy the Immersion boxes ^^
I knew I should have went to this concert
i love the intro

Questa versione è ancora più cupa ed inquietante di qualla che poi andra su Animals. Spettacolare
Creativity in its Majesty
I don't know, Pigs and Sheep feel like 3 min songs stretched out. Now, if we talk about Dogs, Echoes, Shine and AHMSuite I can agree
I believe this tour was its 1st public performance. I was in Row B on the night. Classic show imo. Plus echoes for an encore.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍это невероятный космос 🚀
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT...POWERFULL
this makes me very curious as to what an alternative WYWH with just Shine On, Raving and Drooling and You've Got To Be Crazy would've been like.
That album would have been terrible
Racemixer Berg - I hate that I agree with you lol nothing and I mean nothing will top their 1965-73 days
It wouldn’t be bad but definitely not as good and they wouldn’t have been half as successful as they are now
I wonder this so much
Like a Floyd-Ship , endlessly speeding off into the void of infinite outer space
This feels closer to Sheep then the early version of Dogs did. By the time both were recorded later they had become much more bittered by stardom and it showed in them.
I know this was 2 years ago, but what do you mean by it showed in them? I was wanting to hear more
KodredCud Their sound became much darker and cynical like they did.

It's amazing that they managed to get Sheep sound so much less mental
Best versions of The Animals mate Cheers from Michigan
awesome
Luv it
Very different.... & quite good....
always someone that has nothing in their life that gives a thumbs down ..... The rest of us celebrate!
That person was just upside down and thought they hit thumbs up. :-)
Anything live from PF is a winning goal imho!
Oh my ....
Nick Mason BESTIALE . Number ONE .
D Rooling rooling....:) Great video yup..!!!
8 people are Raving and Drooling.
Nine
I'm gonna fell on they neck with a scream
They've got to be crazy! 🐖🐕🐑
This could have also been called ''Lamb'' 😍
Gilmour outro chordal solo riff is epic unto itself...
i just heard something i know down to its last molecule for the first time
is good.
Пинк Флойд !
Far out , man!
Better than original!
has someone got the lyrics?
i cannot understand what roger says not being a native english speaker myself
[Verse 1]
Raving and drooling, I fell on his neck with a scream
He had a whole lot of terminal shock in his eye
[Verse 2]
That's what you get for pretending the rest are not real
Babbling and snapping at far away flies
He will zig zag his way back through memories of boredom and pain
[Verse 3]
How does it feel to be empty and angry and spaced
Split up the middle between the illusion of safety in numbers
And the fist in your face
Dave and Rick Carry the rhythm
let us celebrate !!!
1.16 lovey
ПИНК ФЛОЙД PINK FLOYD
Don't worry about Nick. He's got a 2/4
***** Imagine Neil Peart. I Can't. I don't know Rush for sheet. However i do know Danny Carey and he could carve the shit out of this

british winter tour 74 boot leg
Is this Roger? It's almost i can't believe he can carry a rhythm
***** like Possibly Imaginably
***** he plays rhythm guitar on pigs the different ones
I was a bit harsh on him. But i get the feeling he claims more music writing credit than he deserves
Well, how about; without him, none of it would have happened? Is that better? now will you give him credit?
Would you say the same thing about Rick Wright? Guess how much real credit he got for his feeble contributions
I like this but I prefer sheep I like the lyrics on sheep better
lyrics on sheep are so relevant today
🤪🤤🤩🙃🐷🐽🐶🐗
you better watch out there may be dogs about

Just makes me think of Rick, sigh Rest In Peace man
I think that Roger had a lot of negative undertone and vibes personally... I think that David has a lot brighter vibe for lack of a better word
The thumb downers are quite mad, raving, drooling and screaming. Yeah
sounds like he 's not doing well
I love this. And I loved “you’ve got to be crazy” but I severely missed David singing the lead on it..

great version
