Jeremy Wray is so underrated, His speed and pop will always be timeless. But fr everytime I watch PJ he feels like the best skater ever, like he can do anything.
Really appreciate the time you put in about this sport we all love! 87 here, it’s always mind blowing to me watching the 7.5 era of skating because I wasn’t fully grown and a lot of these dudes were over 6 foot, not to mention the wheels are probably 48s 21:32 had me dying 😂
this series is goated off the bat man, love it thanks for addressing the gonz even tho he's not in this video lol.. maybe he gets his own episode --0-0--
Thanks so much for doing these type of vids. There are so many gnarly skaters and I am a pothead so, I forget a bunch of guys until you remind me. nice work 🍻🍻
I don''s feel/say this often, but I love your overall vibe, knowledge, and style in your videos. What a sick channel, stoked to have found it. Skating since 1996, though I don't get out as often as I used to, getting old and can't afford an injury as I have a very physical job. Anyway, thanks for bringing your dope attitude to the masses, loving this little series.
Really appreciate the kind words my man as this is our history and it needs to be told by us. For skate rats, by skate rats…nothing more and nothing less. Fun to make and hopefully fun to watch
I was looking forward to this video bigtime. Looks like all my picks have been mentioned in the comments but I will give a shoutout to one of my favorite and most creative skaters from my hometown Jordan Sanchez.
Great clips and commentary. Mike Carrol carefree line at Pier 7. Koston and Mariano in Mouse. Keenan switch kf over table and most famous switch crook. Stevie Williams in the DC video. Barley in Welcome to Hell and EE Zero intro. Louie Lopez in everything.
Mike carroll, lavar mcbribe, Dwayne peters, sativa leung, Cabellero, micki Reyes for out of control mockten fronside slappys and tailslides, Rick mccrank. And list goes on . Great series but agree with every one you posted up as well.
Great video again. Some more style gods in my opinion: Sean malto Sebo Walker Bobby Worrest Ishod Wair Bobby de Keyzer Austyn Gillette Dylan Jaeb JB Gillet Tyson Peterson Btw would love a 30 greatest full lengths video. Thanks for the great content.
Good list, once again. Dixon was obvious. Wray will never be celebrated enough, my personal goat. Need Kareem, Kalis, Vallely and Chris Miller on a future list.
Fully enjoying the list so far. Even the guys I’m not historically a big fan of, have been cool to watch you break down. Love to see Steve Bailey. On the “atv” side…TNT always had a style that made me wanna skate.
Thanks and glad you can watch without agreeing with all of them. Bailey is so rad. Seen him at Washington St at like 6:30am ripping by himself, maybe 2013
19:02. I definitely do know that spot because I found it and was the first to skate it. It's gone now and that sucks because I think people would destroy it now even though it was pretty scary.
Great selection. hope you'll do Louie Barletta. wish you wouldn't curse, it's sort of interrupts the beauty of the skating and your masterful dialogue. Thanks for the videos I've always wanted to see something like this.
There is a conscious effort to try to not use too many expletives. But it’s part of my normal speech and once the skating starts playing the stoke just goes to high to fully control it. Thanks.
@TheGnarlyList I understand, just want the kids to be able to watch too. The channel and your whole aesthetic are terrific. Can't wait to see the next episode!
I’m so glad I found this channel now I can nerd out with other skaters. No mere mortal can understand the complexity that is skateboarding it takes a skater.
Great video. Idk if you already got Wes Kremer in your part 3 but he needs to be. Sk8 Mafia AM video part from 2009 is one of the best parts ever, incredible style is a bonus. Only good looking kickflip late shuv ever done
Ridiculous list. You are the Elias Sports Bureau of skating. Thank you for putting Vert God Hosoi. He, more than all the Bones Brigade and Vision skaters was the guy we would just look at his videos and photos and would simply be speechless.
Thatnk you for reminding me of the REST of Jeremy Wray! The rooftop Ollie overshadows how influential his style is. Also, in Reynolds doesn't make this list, I'm burning the place down
You covered most of my favourites already. Wonder if Shorty's "Steve Olson" will make an appearance with his unique and more unconventional wild looking style.
Dude you videos are great! You get right to the point, call out all the tricks and show the clips. Cannot get more simple than that. The only other person I would have included was Kerry "Hockey Temper" Getz. He lands his tricks super smooth and like he is not even trying. Keep up the great work my friend.
We're about the same age so I appreciate you assuring us twice that Wenning will be discussed haha. A more obscure/underrated guy that I always liked is John Igei. Not technically a flat ground 360 flip but in static 2 he ollies up a wall and 360 flips off over a gap, its perfect and I don't really hear anyone talk about it.
I may have missed it but living in NYC and being in my skating prime 10 years ago to watch his craft, it was known across Philadelphia and NYC that Brian Wenning was the king of style on skateboard here on the East Coast and undoubtedly admitted by most every pro at that time. If you did add him in your list and I missed him then, I fully apologize and will eat my words. But that guy will forever be my a hero to me as I personally watched his switch tre flip down the banks stairs 2nd try, it was art personified on skateboard. Never again I saw style like that. 👑
You’re all good homie. Wenning ends Part 3. Jake Johnson ended Part 1. There will always be a West Coast bias simply because there are more skaters, especially transition on the West. But, East Coast skating is some of the sickest and there are many more parts to come. Stay up
@TheGnarlyList oh man there is a Part 3! Also you ended the video with Brian Wenning. Then sir, I owe you an apology. I think you and I are around the same age and there was a time that I felt that many NYC skaters didn’t get the notoriety that they deserved, and that was mainly just to that era…..California pretty much had cornered the business at that time. I just recently watched the Nine Clubs video on style and not one East Coast Skater was mentioned. I guess that rubbed me the wrong way and hastily posted something stupid on your well made videos. So again I’m sorry. You have an unbelievable eye for talent, please keep going with these gnarly videos. My body won’t allow me to skate anymore so look forward to seeing what you got next to scratch that itch.
Sweet. Diggin the last vid. This should be good. Oh snap....remember the dude that had one of the first hardflips? Dag, can't remember his darn name. Dustin, Reynolds, Greco, Eglington.....man you finna never run out of vids!
kalis, barley, ed, sheffey, kareem, lavar mcbride, donger, jamahl williams, quim cardona, blender, OG tom knox, keenan, jamie reyes, elissa steamer, jesse martinez, kale sandridge… too many. and yes, mid90s penny is the goat!
The "style guy" for my generation was definitely Chad Muska 👍...can't forget Richie Jackson, he is nothing but style, not aggressive or "hardcore", just style 🤘
Mr. Gnarly, I wonder your thoughts on the videographers who make the videos. I think they do not get enough credit, are there any modern videographers you would recommend checking out their work?
A lot of modern ones seem to be copying Strobeck. I love Grant Yansura’s work with WKND, all of his stuff is genius. All time favorites are anything Alien Workshop, Spike Jonze, Manzoori, Ty, and Jon Miner
Anthony Pappalardo. He was never the most technical, and seemed to have a limited bag of tricks. But, I love watching him skate. He has a bit of that Cardiel intensity where it feels like he could go off the rails at any moment. He also skated some crusty spots where it was a wonder he got a trick at all.
Still waiting for Pat Burke to be brought up. Another unsung style-hero in my opinion is Erik J Pettersson, crazy board control and the sickest flick around
