      Very great timing for the upload and an awesome and interesting video with an incredibly chosen topic.
      Well done, Martin!
      I like that you didn't jump on the hate-bandwagon nor the hype bandwagon. You always seem to be mostly objective and you also have well-thought speech in your videos.
      In my opinion, most companies have their style and to be real here all companies are for profit. Each one of them have their quirks and benefits and all.
      Every company gets their "fair share" of haters and lovers in general.
      I really do think that control can be Apple's biggest enemy but their and our most underrated or even hated advantage that we can get for a performance boost for example.
      I don't really identify with Apple-haters nor the lovers, eventhough I bought a 5s a couple of years ago.
      In Hungary as you can see as well, Apple products are 25-50% more expensive than in other countries and that in my humble opinion creates a whole another level of difference (or opposition?) between the customers of certain companies. (Apple and Samsung mostly)
      I hope you keep making these kinds of videos in the future. They are really informative and fun not to mention your calming sound haha.
      If you don't mind I'd keep you busy with a couple of questions too:
      1, What do you think of the prices of certain electronincs in Europe with high taxes and whatnot seem to be augmenting vs. other countries prices seem to be more "friendly" to the customer?
      2,What do you think of all these random companies appearing out of nowhere? (There's some hungarian brand I don't remember the name of. It got huge in the area of Miskolc. It had mediocre specs and outdated android but still had huge "fanbase" kind of for like a year.)
      3, Do you think Windows Phone has a future? (I really hope for a comeback to be true)
      4, Do you think MS changed their business model to something Apple-esque with their new products?
      Thanks for the answers and have an awesome day.
      OH AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)

      the other half is dumb enough to love it.

      Have the same feeling watching TechAltar, especially again with this great video! What I missed though was that Apple is pushing ads on social media. So it is still using social media as a sort of media platform only to push their clean and very controlled marketing strategy.

    I'm not a big Apple fan as of late, but they are 100% on point with their brand identity. Much like Apple products, brand secrecy sells by itself and Apple is very much aware of that. Therefore, why would they get out of their way to fix something that's not broken? Plus, they don't really need your opinion when they have the money to buy opinions from celebrities you follow & admire over _your_ social media and (in)directly influence you to buy Apple products. It's sad but it works.

    • @kenim
      @kenim 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      altrogeruvah actually Apple has the biggest reach and follows a model that its rivals cant copy or match currently. They dont need internet exposure because they have always invested in physical relationship with their clients. The Apple Stores are more relevant than people give them credit for and are the biggest marketing investment out there.

      altrogeruvah Apple doesn't sponsor anyone or do any paid promotions, and they still haven't to this day (You can look it up if you want). Therefore they don't "buy" opinions. The thing you don't seem to understand is that some people actually prefer Apple products more than everything else. It's so irritating how gets to the point where someone says that they genuinely like something and people just say that their opinion is fake and sometimes even "bought" because of their ignorance to the subject...

    I've never wondered why Apple doesn't use social media, because I hardly use them myself. I have wondered why some companies do interact on social media, especially because 99% of all comments on twitter, youtube and facebook are angry people with a need to place a comment on everything...
    and just like that I realize that I'm doing that right here, in the very comment. Nobody cares about what I think and I don't care what they think of what I think, so why am I wasting time letting people know what I think?
    Have good day!

    On the feedback point I like to point out that most tech companies don't take feedback from social media channels like youtube comments and facebook posts cuz that's just the voice of the tech savvy consumers and that's a very small percentage of their larger customer base. Even though their opinions are like you mentioned in the stock android video may seem like huge deal it's just the nature of internet bubble. They have other means to collect feedback from regular users.

    I see their move as being arrogant. Something like: you don't have the right to criticize our product. This reason alone should make customers hate the way Apple acts and stop buying their products.
    I could also guess that they are a bit scared of criticism or of the effect it would have on their marketing efforts.

      Isn't one of the points made in this vid precisely that they don't value 'consumer criticism' very much, so, from the point of view of effectiveness, why should they provide specific platforms for something they have no use for?
      It's a business, not a democratic organisation. Everyone can criticise them as they see fit, but they owe no one any type of public accountability (beyond what is legally required); as long as they provide customer service (which they do, you can always voice complaints, even in person if you care to go to one of the stores), what's wrong with a social media absence?
      If you have a model, be it business or some other kind of development, why would you spend resources on activities that are not in alignment with that model, your goals or values?
      They think they know better than the average joe, and the individuals whose opinion they value the most, well they'll probably hire them or somehow engage with them on a profession level.

    Read this with the guy who got fired because his daughter posted the video of iPhone X.
    This time they ignored all the mainstream phone reviewers (including famous TH-cam reviewers) and got small TH-cam channels and pop culture channels to post scripted TH-cam reviews .By scripted i mean they only talked like a BuzzFeed article "10 reasons to like ..." . It must be the first company to give their flagship phone to BuzzFeed to review .. Apple know that dimwits on BuzzFeed will review the Animoji and talk about how cool is it. Even MKBHD & Unbox therapy didn't seem to get a hands on along with them.

What you get in the video is what you expect upon clicking the video. And this channel is overall great because Martin doesn't do crazy things, he is just chill and makes great, informative videos, that are mostly non biased, which I like, because then I take that information and create an opinion instead of being influenced by someone.

    The big fact that APPLE CAN AFFORD TO IGNORE SOCIAL MEDIA is true but Apple works like a chain for eg. one person buys an iPhone for it to work in its most perfect form, the customer buys more Apple products. And when new products come the customer is attracted to the new version of the product they already have. So basically the only need customers to buy one of their product and automatically this process happens

    • @Geopro97
      @Geopro97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      But that's the awesome part. Apple pays NO ONE when it comes to social media to advertise their products. People do it freely because it's a relevant luxury product that sells and get them clicks. Also all those people that do that have some kind of hope that Apple will sponsor them one day but they probably won't. Try finding your favorite youtuber's Q and A or something and you will confirm what i'm saying. Even EverythingApplePro isn't sponsored by Apple.

    • @Geopro97
      @Geopro97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +62

      First point: Google luxury term you idiot learn what luxurious products mean.
      Second point: I just love it when ignorant people call out the specs of a product :D. I mean i'm an I.T and i really laugh at people like you who just love to hate Apple and just say bullshit for no apparent reason.
      1334 x 750? Are you still gonna ignore the fact at even that "Low" resolution it looks Waaayy sharper and clear than your average Non-Apple phone with higher resolution?
      Third point: Well yes i agree iPhone 8 does feel cheaper. I don't like the glass my self. I prefer Aluminium products by Apple which do not exist in the new iPhones. And yes the camera section is unfair to judge a phone to a real camera. Although iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X have one of the best cameras on smartphone's in the market right now.

    • @Geopro97
      @Geopro97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Of course i look up the specs.
      The basic thing i want you to understand is that there's a lot more going on in-depth in the architectonics of the insides of a product instead of what's on the surface hence most of the specs you check out before buying a product. For instance let's say the average consumer would logically think that an android phone with an 8 core processor running at 2GHz would be faster than an iPhone A11 Bionic processor with 6 cores. Which is exactly not the case. Am i making this up? No, go do your research. Apple A11 at the moment is the fastest processor on smartphones with a HUGE difference with other competitors. It's not even close to other competitors.
      No Android phone maker can claim to design both the CPU and operating system. This advantage of making both the CPU and OS gives Apple the ability to refine both to work as efficiently as possible together-thus reaching performance speeds other Android handsets could only dream of.
      Also for your question about resolution here is your answer:

      Oh sorry bro my mistake i misread what you said, i agree with you. People really don't wanna admit it cause you know, most people have android products because they are "cheaper". I mean it's cool if they buy a 750$ Galaxy S8 but if you buy a 699$ iphone 8 you are a sheep.. They just love to hate Apple. No valid arguments by them in my experience. Like that guy above that i was debating. Anyway i believe they are two different markets, marketing two different perspectives of the technology and it's beautiful that it is this way.

    If their product sells, that's all the feedback they need. The problem is that people aren't buying the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. People who are looking to upgrade are just now learning the new phones don't have a headphone jack (all while being more expensive) and are turned off. This might be the turning point for the company where not listening to fans is actually holding the company back.

    • @davfreim
      @davfreim 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Patrick Aeschlimann nobody cares about headphone jack, its 21st century and people who buy expensive phones can afford Bluetooth headphones, an only few % of iPhone users even use headphones. Same with CD-ROM, only few years ago it was pretty common in laptops, even though I haven’t used a CD in like 10 years.

    • @deanchur
      @deanchur 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I won't even look at a phone without a headphone jack; I'm not going to be suckered into buying a new format over one that's not broken (and in the case of bluetooth headphones, is inferior for primary purpose) so a company can pander to shareholders just that little bit more. There's no technological disadvantage to a headphone jack; there's several waterproof phones with jacks and the Vivo X5 from 2014 is 4.75mm thin whilst still retaining one, so a thinness argument is redundant.
      The key reason Apple removed it was so they could switch to a proprietary format (lightning) and collect royalties from 3rd party manufacturers that they weren't collecting before. Apple is acting like Sony circa 2002, trying to force standards onto consumers with no regard for the customer. Nothing exists in a vacuum however, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

    • @xerzy
      @xerzy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I seriously don't think the lack of a headphone jack will kill Apple, that's just absurd. Apple has for long been deprecating ports and making people get used to it instead of the other way around. However, I do agree that a lack of constant, richer, more abundant feedback could hurt them in the long run.
      _Edit_ : keep in mind we don't know yet the figures of how well recent iPhones are selling, *but* there's likely going to be a downfall, because they're purposefully risking. The iPhone 8 was mostly done in order to keep the wave of newcomers and iPhone upgraders coming, while the iPhone X is an experiment they can afford to release into the market and which should pay off at mid-long term - just like the Apple TV, but at a really expensive price tag.

    • @deanchur
      @deanchur 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I agree Francisco; the lack of the jack itself won't do much (Pixel phones), it's the message they're sending to the consumer. Making face unlock mandatory instead of giving a choice with a fingerprint sensor on the back, making Macbook users carry dongles to make use of a widely accepted standard, withholding features from a $1000 phone unless the user pays more for another cable (fast charging). The message I'm getting is that Apple thinks they know best and they don't need to listen to customers.

  • @Guesswhokk

    It true that "established" brands almost always avoid external noises, while reverse is true for "startup" brand who heavily relies on social media to spread the word / hype.
    Apple can do this, because they initiated the smartphone movement, where 10 year prior it was the iPod + design consistency. That why you get many more phone case choices for any Apple phones, but not for Android phones (consistency / diverse issue).
    So when a product brand is consistent enough you don't need external noises to promote your product, because in doing so it will also dilute your product messages.
    However, the downside to this strategy is when there is a product fault, it will become very public, slow to respond and only address issues with "very large" number of complainant e.g. batterygate, bendgate (iphone 6), antennagate (iphone 4).
    Meanwhile, little issues like no calculator in iPad or video loop without title name will probably never address.
    Apple consider "design consistency" is the most valuable asset (and willing to protect it whatever the cost) and to minimize any potential faults before it was release, most of the testing was done in-house, which is also why IOS update are more frequent than Android/ Samsung counterpart.

      Apple aren’t afraid of criticism but just repeated and unjustified criticism when they decide to remove ports, these people are stupid. Don’t they want a wireless future? Apple sometimes removes things too soon without warning but the headphone jack removal was warranted and in no way premature. Something like FireWire was removed slightly prematurely but people got over it.

      SluggaRaptor man you need to think things in more than one way . Because of naivety like this apple gets away with whatever it does . Now here is the reason why headphone was removed , apple didn't want to invest in R&D to develop waterproofing too much . So they removed headphone jack . This saved them literally millions and they also reap benefits of selling you dongles . 3.5 mm jack was the only port on iPhone that they can't charge royalty for . Lightning port takes care of that . Win win for apple . Apple doesn't care about innovation . They just feed you story that they have courage and they are innovating and all the other BS . Now some food for thought . Why won't they put type c port on iPhone ? Let's see if you can figure this out .

    Your choice of topics is really commendable!
    I've never bought an Apple product, but I understand that their marketing strategy has always gone AGAINST the commercial grain. That is how they manage to come up with original ideas/surprising concepts/appealing products I guess.
    To be honest, I find that social media is useless for established/institutionalised brands (i.e Nike, Coca-cola, Amazon, Ebay, Dior, etc..). Social media marketing has a better RoI for beginning/growing businesses and private ventures (like activists/community events) in my view, simply because the purpose of Social media is primarily to give wide exposure to a certain cause/product, beyond the local.
    Big corp brands are already all over our face, so it makes sense that people would use their Social media platforms to share their discontent/complaint rather than appraise. So yes, that strategy is somehow counterproductive...

      The Lolladorf King Oye shit the fuck up u can say whatever u want to one plus but saying Samsung cheap is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard Samsung is ahead of apple in terms of technology not bcs they advertise them but bcs they really are . Samsung is the one who manufactured that apple (so called super retina display) .Yes apple is good at marketing .If u remove the brand value and soley compare Samsung's and apple product specially the smartphone area Samsung will be the dominant and this is a fact which u apple sheep's will never agree which annoys me a lot . Just accept it that apple is behind Samsung when it comes to overall technology.

    Apple doesn't use social media because there are enough TH-camrs who give tech reviews for Apple products for free without any payment from Apple at all. One such TH-camr I am referring to goes by the name TechAltar.

    • @Ballistichydrant
      @Ballistichydrant 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most def a trigger. I live in China and around this time of year people like to ask what I'm doing for christmas, because my skin is white so I must be doing something for christmas, so I always respond, "Oh, I'm not doing anything for christmas because I'm not christian." I really enjoy this interaction every time it happens, because the statement when removed from egoic attachment is very clear and easy to understand. As Chinese people have no emotional attachment to christmas they just get the statement, they just get it, straight away. But westerners when hearing the statement have a strong emotional response that always makes me laugh. The most interesting thing about this whole game I play with people is how the westerners 95 ish percent of the time can't see that they are having an emotional response. They think I'm crazy and they get really angry sometimes. I get a big kick out of it. I have spent a lot of time in my adulthood trying to get people to honestly ask themselves why they think the shit they think but most of the time people fail to grasp the idea that all the shit in their head came from outside their head. It's all programming and when we truly realize this important idea, we can separate emotion from our ideas and ask ourselves objectively why we think and therefore do the things we do. In this reference frame we can release so much stress from our lives and decouple the emotional responses we often suffer when programming collides with logic. Anyway that is just me. Free your mind, and f*ck christmas, f*ck it all the way down. How about "Merry Today" and celebrate it every day?

    It also has to do that they don’t really need it because younger people see new products from other accounts that tweet it, Snapchat it, or instagram it. And older people will see it on the news or hear it on the radio. Like people in my school see it all from instagram and ask me for more info. And people like my grandma header about it on the news.

    Apple is stubborn. As its an Apple product so people will buy those anyways. Its like a luxury product . Its just the brand name and the APPLE LOGO. Seriously! I don't want to pay a ton and get little from Apple. So I stick to Android. That flashyness doesn't effect me. They have their own market strategy. Which in term is brining them success. But for many people like me the end bit does matter. 2018 is just a step ahead and the market is huge. More grater deals than apple for sure.

      Anim Baroi I love Apple products, because I’m sick of having to customize everything so it would work properly. I buy a new iPhone and it just works, I don’t want to go through tons of settings to change some minor things, I have been using iPhone for 8 years now, and I haven’t had a single problem! I still have iPhone 4 and iPhone 5s, they still work fine, the 5s can run the newest iOS of course its a bit slower than the new iPhones but still you can use it if needed. And I do have a Windows PC, have had Windows since win98 and boy does windows have problems. Even win10 has some annoying problems, not as many as Xp but still. If I would have a need for a laptop, I would buy only MacBook. Yes Apple is expensive and yes you can buy a more powerful windows PC/laptop but if the more powerful thing is crappier built and works worse then whats the point of more power?!

      You are generalizing too much. Not all owners of an iPhone do so for pretending to be wealthy, or because they are not interested in technology. Neither does it mean that they do not have intelligence.

    @TechAltar, I’ve been watching your videos for some time and as usual, I appreciated your insights - keep it up!
    I would just like to give a small piece of constructive advice: I own an iPhone X and many others viewers own Android devices with a similar screen ratio. When I move from letterboxed to full-screen/cropped, your titles are either just on the edges or cut-off. It may be beneficial for you to centre your titles more to accomodate both letterboxed viewing and cropped ~2:1 viewing.
    I’ve noticed many other TH-camrs haven’t addressed this, and thought it may be useful to bring up!

    • @gaaraati
      @gaaraati 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree but I think most of the hate is usually just jumping on the "Apple-hate bandwagon". Sometimes I do agree with the hate but most of the time you just have to think objectively.
      This is true for most companies actually. I'm not trying to defend Apple in particular here.

    • @billylardner
      @billylardner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      gaaraati But then there are Samsung/Google fans, people angry with the advert copying (which happens with most companies, you're right), and the whole slowing down your phone situation. I agree with you overall, but most of Apple's hate is justified atm.

    • @gaaraati
      @gaaraati 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I agree. At the moment, it is totally justified. Most of the time... well I don't really know.
      To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a huge chaos because other manufacturers admitted they used similar methods. As a user I can just hope all of this shit will go away and they will fix their shit as soon as possible.
      I consider myself lucky because I don't have that much of a problem with my phone but still. I only have a problem with my battery. I though about simply resetting my phone through my PC to iOS 10 but I don't wanna mess with it just now. I still have warranty, haha!
      Thanks for your objective and calm response! :)

    In my opinion, social media doesn't matter that much - I'm not the type of person to go and follow all of the tech brands I can think of. Plus, as you mentioned in the video, Apple already has different tactics to reach out to their customers (and get more sales).

    Since Steve Jobs was mentioned, don’t forget the “antenna-gate” problems from IPhone 4. It was pretty clear he answered emails and at one point said “You’re holding it wrong”. I don’t think the culture of Apple handles social interactions very well.

    I think what you put out in this video means that Apple actually does use social media (and all other kinds of media really) but not directly, rather indirectly, through journalists, TH-cam channels, web reviewers etc... It's a sneaky thing to get hype without obnoxious ads and promotions (like you said) and it let's Apple keep full control over their marketing (just like you said).

    I noticed the Apple brand does not allow comments on their videos, but come to think of it, they don't have a Social Media footprint at all. While I do like the points you bring up as it could help them, I think Apple might have better reasons to ignore it. While you can have 1-on-1 feedback and conversations with the employee's this way, it opens ways for disagreeing customers to expose the Apple brand which could have a potentially larger more negative affect on their sales.

    Good vlog. I avoid social media totally too but then I am 72 ! The interesting thing about it all probably goes back to the fact that their 'breakthrough product' the iPhone is 10 years old and their brand image based around that was well established before social media as we know it today, took off. The other side of this coin is that if you were launching a mass consumer product today in this time of social media, could you succeed by totally ignoring it ? I suspect that you would need to have a truly new, unique and radical "gizmo" that "sells itself" to even try doing that.

  • @Giovanni-Manfredi
    @Giovanni-Manfredi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's true that Apple ignore the main part of social media but they use anyway a "one way channel" to send news about their products and "discounts" on their website: their newsletter. It's the best way for them to communicate and have the control at the same time
