I'm glad that it's not a super simple and dumbed down card game you see in most MMO's that require no thought or strategy. however, i don't know enough about it yet to know like how much is your chance of winning based on your knowledge of the game vs luck. With decks being shared with your opponent it seems you can't really build an advantage based on how good your deck is, so hopefully your knowledge of game will be most determinate factor to winning. One thing I absolutely cannot stand is games that is almost entirely luck based and even if you're an amazing player if you have bad luck with your cards you lose, that's what I'm hoping this isn't. But i can totally see that a lot of people won't be interested in this at all if it's going to require a lot of thought and time investment. I'm totally going to give this a real chance though and watching videos like this will hopefully have me more prepared.
I'm guessing the same person who added secrets & special conditions to dungeons was the same person in charge of making this card game smh. Simple ESO legends or Gwent like concept would be much easier to pick up, gonna replay the tutorial a couple of time's.
I really needed this video, but I'm still trying to figure out a couple of things. There's some conditions on the Patrons that I don't fully understand. There's text in gold, and text in white, let's take Saint Pelin for instance, Favored: (Gold) Pay 2 Power, Have 1 agent card in your cooldown pile (White) Refresh - Return up to 1 agent card from your cooldown pile to the top of your play deck. What does this mean? What is refresh, how do I refresh? Next, if we look at Celarus, Favored (Gold) Opponent has 1 agent card in their active agents, Pay 4 coin: (White) Knock Out - Place 1 of your opponent's active agents into their cooldown pile. So, how do I knock out? Also, how do we lower the health of an agent card? I have no idea how that is done, nobody has talked about it yet. :(
Nicely done Brah! You explained it a lot better then the preview 😀 only if they had made it this simple and you did it in half the time they spent there. 👍 Also you cleared some confusions I had on the game. Well done!!!
I played this for the first time today and was "waaaaaaa....t?" I wish ESO's tute had simply explained the "anatomy of the card" (immediate effect on the left, stack effect on the right), because just hearing what that was made my brain go "ooooooooh". Such a seemingly small thing but if you don't know, you just don't know.

To show you just how much i don't understand wtf is going on, those five patrons? I thought they were another five players! I'm not sure i'm 'much' wiser, but i'll have another go at it
Thank you for your video. I played this game last night. Hopefully the ESO dev's are interested enough to seek out sincere feedback. I found the colors to be too dull (really) which made the contrast and definition very weak. I also felt that the patron emblem doesn't 'pop' ... that symbol should be in all four corners and easily recognizable. The other significant areas of the cards seem like they're pasted on instead of integrated into the design. A new player needs the ability to hover over the symbols invoking a popup that explains it's purpose....an optional effect that could be turned on or off. This would aid the player so the learning curve would be flattened. The patron cards on the right side of the board need some animation ... like a 3-D of the patron and when it favors you there should be an unmistakable visual clue (even for those with poor eyesight). Patron cards should really shine ...so to speak. I wanted to love this card game...but it's current iteration is severely lacking. It is bland and unappealing. *cries*
Looks as good as the companions. Dont think it will bring many of us back. but thanks for another great video! the one thing i dont get. They said they cant add something useful like a new weapon line as it will add to much code and use too much memory. This entire new system doesnt do this at all? Seems odd.
Finally understand thisngame, managed to get the green patron. What level is master? As you need to be master to play the grand masters to get another patron. Can't find the info anywhere online. I'm in xbox btw so haven't had the game for long.
I’m just picturing a conspiracy map right now with this damn game…. Insert gif of guy staring into distance with math equations floating around his head
Good tutorial Adam. Well thought out and well presented. What a HORRIBLE game Guessing a developer was given the task to create an in game card game as punishment for some unknown transgression... Developer responded with this hot mess. Obviously overdeveloped to the express purpose of alienating the majority of those that play. Wonder what the daily/weekly/monthly play rate is.
I've maxed out the card game levels and noticed as I got higher up, two of the patron cards no longer function for me in game. The Crow card will say 'spend 0 gold: get 0 power', and it's worthless to try and add the favor. The St Pelin will simply say "You cannot claim this" or something of the sort. This occurs when I selected those decks or the npc opponent selects them. Any ideas?
"not _real_ gold - in game" heh. They should have really come up with a better name than "gold". Call it sovereigns, gilders, something. "Gold" is just going to cause - even more - confusion.
I want to give the card game a try when it is on the live server but it is so confusing! This guide is very helping at breaking it down! Thank you for taking the time to make it!
I tried hard to like this game it has potential. But as long as both players have basic common sense and sometimes not even that winning just comes down to luck. You can have the best strategy and it won't make an ounce of difference long as the cards flip his way.
I didn't go through all the comments, so I don't know if this has been asked. I notice you are able to pick what cards you want to play first. Is there a setting that allows the computer to do that for you that you can change? ETA: Also, almost every time I've played a card with the cost value at the top, it goes straight to cool down and doesn't count towards a combo. Wondering why this is?
Yeah I played this twice and it seemed extremely confusing and also boring. I liked gwent in the Witcher 3. This seems way more complicated and not straight forward. Also, I'm confused why I am playing it? what am I getting for it? Just more cards? Also, if the cards are shared what's the point of getting it?
They need to make this card game simpler, I LOVED Gwent in the Witcher 3 game, this is a LOT of headache and not worth the time investment tbh....thanks for the tutorial anyway :)
But they did 2 things in order to reduce server load and improve performance... the controversial move to account-wide achivements and sharding the database by moving all accounts of players who haven't logged in for 12 months to a backup server which aims to reduce overhead for regulars. IMO, the best thing they could do to improve latency all round is to create a 3rd server zone, such as "Asia" for players in areas like east Russian, Korea, China, etc as that would help both the NA and EU servers cut down on distant players and give them their own regional server with better pings. Naturally, they'd have to allow the players wanting to use that server an ability to transfer their accounts, but I don't see that as an issue if it serves a greater purpose. As I see it, Zenimax took great advantage of the pandemic to boost their player base during lockdowns by keeping development going and introducing the hybrid system which is more casual-player friendly, but they made little effort to improve server capacity to support that growth, that I know of. Whether or not the numbers will shrink back to pre-pandemic numbers is the main question, but even if they do, the introduction of more expansions and content means that strain on the engine and servers is starting to show and since they can't remove content without spoiling the game the best they can do is work with the huge database that changes and expands the most - player accounts. More server zones, sharding, and compacting some data to reduce overhead as they did with achivements. Whether or not ZoS will ever do this remains to be seen.
Thanks for this video i got the card game activated but the in-game tutorial didn't help much as i got confused and kept loosing hoping know after watching your videos I'll get a better chance at winning.
I don’t play ESO to play a card game!!! This chapter seems to have more development centered around a lack luster card game sadly. Not much in the way of content in the new area sadly, still issues with pvp nothing new added. Not much story at all compared to chapters past. No new classes, no new skills, etc. When I play Elder Scrolls I’m not thinking about a mini card game at all!! Horrible direction for the game. This release is the most hyped for the least amount of content and sadly many community contributors are simply pushing carbon copy content not addressing the sheer lack of real content. During official streams viewers that tried to actually ask constructive questions were simply removed. This chapter will not bring in many players at all or bring people back. If I had not already preordered it I wouldn’t do it. Sadly I believe this is going to be the year of flop with seeing activity decreasing.

Finally understand thisngame, managed to get the green patron. What level is master? As you need to be master to play the grand masters to get another patron. Can't find the info anywhere online. I'm in xbox btw so haven't had the game for long.
Gonna finally sit down and understand this game 😅
I’m just picturing a conspiracy map right now with this damn game…. Insert gif of guy staring into distance with math equations floating around his head
Good tutorial Adam. Well thought out and well presented.
What a HORRIBLE game
Guessing a developer was given the task to create an in game card game as punishment for some unknown transgression... Developer responded with this hot mess. Obviously overdeveloped to the express purpose of alienating the majority of those that play.
Wonder what the daily/weekly/monthly play rate is.
Unreal, they add a new card game that includes ranked ladders, but after years they still haven't added ranks to BGs
Fatantastic starter guide!!!! Thank you!!!🎉
Thank you so much for explaining this. Amazing good job! There was alot you cleared up for me 👍
Your vid helped me to understand this card game mecanics.
If I may ask, what do we actually achieve for playing the card game? Another-words, what’s the point in the greater picture of the game? Thanks!
The rewards and mostly for people who don't want to do combat all the time but want to remain in the game doing something... like fishing.
Bravo. Another much needed video that Brah provides flawlessly. All hail Brah!!
Its actually a well thought out card game and I wish they made a physical licensed copy of the game....
no clue what I was doing at all
abandoned the quest after a few matches.
decided to do 'anything' else.
Was waiting for this ngl...thanks!
Any ideas?
They should have kept the elder scrolls legends card designs and gameplay. Was a fun game just didn't get enough attention and died.
I agree
Thank you for the tutorial
"not _real_ gold - in game" heh. They should have really come up with a better name than "gold". Call it sovereigns, gilders, something. "Gold" is just going to cause - even more - confusion.
I agree my first thought is just rename them to "Tributes" calling it gold is already confusing the masses lol
What kind of rewards do you get from playing? Is it worth the time?
Thank you for the explanation was perfect
Excellent! This is so helpful.
yo if you play that gwent soundtrack while playing this it hits DIFFERENT
I want to give the card game a try when it is on the live server but it is so confusing! This guide is very helping at breaking it down! Thank you for taking the time to make it!
Thank you for this video!!
really great video :) so helpful
Idk what’s happening but as an avid TCG player I’m hyped
You've been bamboozled!
Hi, how do you deal damage to an agent cards health?
I tried hard to like this game it has potential. But as long as both players have basic common sense and sometimes not even that winning just comes down to luck. You can have the best strategy and it won't make an ounce of difference long as the cards flip his way.
I didn't go through all the comments, so I don't know if this has been asked. I notice you are able to pick what cards you want to play first. Is there a setting that allows the computer to do that for you that you can change?
ETA: Also, almost every time I've played a card with the cost value at the top, it goes straight to cool down and doesn't count towards a combo. Wondering why this is?
Thank you for explaining ❤
what is a bewilderment card?
I didn't understand rajhin's skill
Is the card game locked behind a paywall ie do I need to purchase High Isle first to be able to play it? I haven't played the game in a while
Yeah u do buddy
What do you recommend for the first couple of quest?
Will my progress from the PTS transfer to my characte?
Yeah I played this twice and it seemed extremely confusing and also boring. I liked gwent in the Witcher 3. This seems way more complicated and not straight forward. Also, I'm confused why I am playing it? what am I getting for it? Just more cards? Also, if the cards are shared what's the point of getting it?
PLAY CARDS NOW SLOTS NEXT
So complicated couldn't even do the tutorial
Yeah thanks for clearing this up the tutorial was a mess and made no sense to me lol 😂
They need to make this card game simpler, I LOVED Gwent in the Witcher 3 game, this is a LOT of headache and not worth the time investment tbh....thanks for the tutorial anyway :)
You did a great job exposing but I just hate that they added this to the game in lieu of fixing the very bad lag.
Why didn’t they just let us play The Elder Scrolls Legends for in game ESO rewards. *sigh*
exactly
We now know hoe to count Adam's hand in spades, he sets it in order of clubs spades hearts and diamonds lol
This card game isn't fun at all for me , way too overcomplicated
Thank you for your detailed and informative explanation. I am now 100% confident that I have no interest in playing this.
