    I absolutely love Woolyknit cone yarn and Holst Garn cone yarn. They are incredibly versatile and as you just demonstrated, you can use them double strand to get a thicker yarn if needed. You can also knit double strand with two different colors for a heathered color or with a strand of alpaca or mohair for a fuzzier sweater.

    I love the color choices you made for your sweater! I love bright colors and they look amazing on you.
    The little embroidered heart on the cashmere sweater vest is so cute. I love visible mends.
    There are lots of tutorials for visible mending. The best way I have found to learn is actually learning different mending and embroidery techniques and then combining them to meet your needs. For me, mending is all about creativity. If you have a Tumblr. The visible mending tag on there is pretty active with people sharing their finished mends and helping each other out.

      Thank you moonbasket, such a thoughtful response! I am enjoying bright colours at the moment! I don’t have Tumblr but yes I think I need to get onto some tutorials for visible mends! Happy crafting!

    Can't wait to see your Heirloom - it will be stunning. The lace is less complicated than it looks - just be sure that the first 5-6 rows of the lace is correct - then the rest will follow nicely. And don't worry about running out of yarn - 500 g of will be enough (I used around 300 g of a DK weight yarn for a size 2XL).

    Wow - I love the colour choices in your Soldotna, I would never have put those colours together and the work wonderfully, and the pattern and your work is amazing and beautiful. (I'm trying to destash and now I'm off browsing yarn on Woolyknit!)

    I love your sweater and the color combinations. Another tip for lace knitting, I find that patterns that have the lace on one side are easier to knit than ones with YOs on both sides.

      Hi Meri! Thanks for the tip! I will bear that in mind. Thankfully the lace panel on the Heirloom is small so hopefully I won’t mess it up! 🥴😅🌈

  • @sujammaz
    @sujammaz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    love the pink details 😍
    and i also hate casting on - in a slightly different way though. only realised it while watching a very lengthy video about historic knitting, which mentioned that many traditional patterns and techniques avoid casting on (and off) quite elaborately. this seemed odd and made me think and i guess for me the reason is because it's so hard to get the tension right (i do like making the stitches, so what you said is not the same with me 😅). and the counting and having too long or short of a tail 😊 sadly they didn't give many examples of how to avoid it but one i've been trying quite successfully is using borders. the ones that are knitted as bands or ribbons at a 90 degree angle first and used to pick up the actual stitches at the side.

    • @AllHomesteading
      @AllHomesteading  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there! Nice to see you again! Thank you! Love a touch of pink! And yeah I do agree as well that for the most part, my CO tension doesn’t quite match up tension-wise to the rest of my in-pattern stitches so I always get that “frilly” looking cast on edge. That doesn’t really bother me per se. I think the few times I didn’t mind casting on were to do a Turkish cast on in place of Judy’s Magic cast on as I found the former so much easier, or when I’ve knitted a shawl and needed to cast on 3 or something 😁 I wonder why traditional patterns avoided elaborate Co and off
