What is your stitch length! If you want to make it larger can you add more rope? And do you spray silicone on the back to keep it from skidding? You are so soothing to listen to!
Stitch length is 4.0 mm zigzag stitch . I didn't like the look of the 5.0 mm zig zag stitch length. To make larger bunt two ends together wrap tape around then wrap with fabric . I've been pricing jelly rolls, and they cost a lot. Plus, the tutorials suggest we use a batting which is also expensive. So, the rug can wind up costing beaucoup dollars. Too much for me, retired and on fixed income. I am so inspired by your tutorial. The clothesline idea is wonderful and you can get three strips out of one. That works for me! Thank you so much for this! And for your detailed and slow instruction. Are you around to reply? I would love to know the size needle you are using, and the length and width of your zigzag stitch. I have watched a lot of jelly roll rug tutorials and no one but you has shown how to do the start. I subscribed and thumbs up! I
I I truly understand your concerns of the cost of the jelly roll rug. My jellyroll clothesline rug is very inexpensive. I am using a size 14 all purpose needle. On this particular video I use a zig zag size of a 4.0 the reason why I chose that stitch width, was becaus I didn't want the zigzags to show. I ran into a lot of problems with gaps and holes in the rug. It wasn't that many but it was enough to make me decide to change my stitch width. I would suggest using a 5.0 zig zag stitch width to make sure you catch each side of the clothesline. Right now I'm in the process of editing an updated video on the clothesline rug so I hope you stay tuned for the video and thanks very much for subscribing and for commenting. @@OlmzarasCalm Hi Olmzara! Thanks for more details. Your reply is great, and has been logged into my sewing journal. Since i am now an official fan (subscriber) I'll watch for your update. Hearts to you!
@elsieletourneau1051 Mainstay Walmart 50 foot clothesline rope. I don’t know the diameter of the rope. I then tried Walmart diamond braid rope 50 foot . Bot rope used turned out great. Hopefully this helps you.
I used a Singer sewing machine, but any sewing machine will do. I also used a 90/14 sewing needle and invisible thread. Hope this helps. Thanks for your comment
May I ask you a question? What if you folded the top edge of the fabric? The bottom is covered and the zig zag pulls it snuggly rapped. Will it still fray the same? Have you tried the small glue at dollar tree that can be used to put pictures on wood work or glue fabric to a surface? You know the brand. It is in the art section of Dollar tree.
Hey Angela, thank you for your question. I tried that and made a small sample by folding both edges of the fabric inwards and then wrapping it around the rope. No fray at all, Thicker wraps, stronger rug, used more fabric and it Just made extra work. In my video tutorial the fray is very minimal because the zigzag covers It and it did not take away the look of the rug. I did trim the fray and never had any issues after that. The objective is to use up your scrap of fabric quickly and have fun Using glue on the thick wrapped clothesline rope is very bulky and dried glue becomes hard and may cause needle breaks I think you’ll just have to try it Hopefully my reply has helped Thanks again
What diameter is the close-line you’re using and is it cotton or nylon? Also, understanding the size being made, is this playable enough to be put in a large washer? Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I was wondering how do you know how long to make middle when you first start sewing? I would love to make one that is about 5x7 for my camper....do you have any suggestions about how long I should make my middle beginning to make a rug that size?
I believe that the middle determines the shape of the rug..... I am using my creative judgement.... the size is all about how many rounds you want to go.... even about how much space your sewing machine has...... I would just say....... you determine the size...... I give you permission to have fun and experiment...😁 Hope that helps.🤔
The begining was about 3.5 to 4 inches folded together........About 14x24 inches ... finished..... and have not had any more fraying.... will hand wash. Thanks again for your comment hopes this helps.🙂
I’m coming in late, but i believe you’d want to start with about 2 ft for the starting strip. You’d keep adding rounds until you’d added 2.5 ft to each side and 2.5 feet to the ends. That would come out to a 5x7 oval.
I know you posted this over a year ago but I was wondering what you do when you run out of clothesline. How do you connect the two lines together to make the rug bigger? I think your rug is beautiful. I love your choice of fabrics and would love to make one myself.
Wow! This is great! No jelly rolls, no pre cut batting. And a great tutorial.

@@OlmzarasCalm thank you so much. Yes, it helps.
I tried that and made a small sample
by folding both edges of the fabric inwards and then wrapping it around the rope. No fray at all, Thicker wraps, stronger rug, used more fabric and it Just made extra work.
In my video tutorial the fray is very minimal because the zigzag covers It and it did not take away the look of the rug.
I did trim the fray and never had any issues after that.
The objective is to use up your scrap of fabric quickly and have fun
Using glue on the thick wrapped clothesline rope is very bulky and dried glue becomes hard and may cause needle breaks
I think you’ll just have to try it
Hopefully my reply has helped
Thanks again
You have a wonderful, soothing voice!
I give you permission to have fun and experiment...😁
Hope that helps.🤔
Olmzara's Calm Could you tell me what the beginning middle in inches is for this rug is and what was the final size of this rug?
Working on a video to show how
