I was so excited when G4TV was relaunching and watched it for a day and realized it was trash. Such a shame. The entire cast and line up of shows was cringe. At least I can re watch all the old G4/TechTv shows on TH-cam. Cinematech was so good as well as many other shows. 😢
It was extremely exciting. Graphical differences between console generations were just much much bigger then you see today so every new console blew us away. This was also before micro transactions which gave us more to do in games cause there were cool things to unlock through gameplay. Now days it's just unlockables behind a pay wall.

My mom was able to snag one from my uncle's gf since she worked at Kmart at the time. When I saw that blue box under the tree, I literally ran around the house with it yelling with excitement. I didn't have any games on it yet but I didn't care; I just rented games from Blockbuster to hold me down until I was able to get my own games. I think I had just started 10th grade at the time. Good times!

I would agree. I was a huge Nintendo fanboy back then, but in hindsight Sony had enough firepower to win the gen. for me, Id say MGS2 and 3 won it for them, in my book.

I love ps2 so much , my love for gaming is what got me into tech and computer science stuff and learning how (or at least trying to learn) how these consoles worked. I eventually learned that the 128bit marketing hype from the early days of the ps2/dreamcast was actually referring to is 128bit(2**128) sized values for processing calculations at the same time which contain multiple numbers which is used to help the graphics hardware figure out how to draw objects and environments on screen. In those days they really needed to use the next bit number to hype gamers up but most of the system that wasn't directly related to the graphics hardware isn't 128bit at all so they had to stop using bit numbers to advertise while in the old days 8/16bit consoles had a lot more 8/16bit(2**8/2**16) calculations available across all elements of the CPU and other hardware so it was less misleading advertising than in the n64-early-ps2/dreamcast era :P
The Greatest Era in gaming history. I love RDR2 with all my heart but i gotta say every great game series started from PS2 wether it was RD Revolver or MGS2, WWE SVR Games, God of War & so many more...If only i can relive the era again.

Always really wanted a multitap for the PS1 and PS2 because it looked so cool, but i barely had anyone to play 2 player games with so i necer had the need for it.
I worked at a Babbage's at the PS2 launch. Sony sent us a whopping 10 PS2's on launch day. We had 236 pre-orders. They sent us 10 more before Thanksgiving. Then they sent us another 20 a few days before Christmas. After that, we didnt see another shopment until Gran Turismo 3 came out. Around the end of Summer 2001, we started seeing them a bit more regularly. But we were maybe getting 3-6 consoles in at a time.

Crazy, I was already playing my PS2 3 days before the street date (23 years and 3 days ago). I remember I got a call at 10am that Monday that it arrived. My coworker and I went to pick it up on our lunch break. I had 3 buddies offer $1000 for my pre order the week before when I bought Street Fighter EX3, Tekken Tag Tournament, FantaVision and Ridge Racer V. They still hounded me to buy it for months until they eventually got theirs in December from a Circuit City that released abandoned pre orders. Couldn’t believe how many people were paying thousands for them on eBay.

In 1992 my Sega CD was $300. 1995 was particularly expensive starting in May with the Saturn at $400 and September with PlayStation at $300. Yet nothing beats the NeoGeo Gold I got in 1991 for a little over $700 with tax. It came with Magician Lord, but the games for it averaged around $200 each. So again, the PS2 launch price of $300 wasn’t bad at all.

I was originally gonna buy a Super Nintendo, but when I walked in, I saw the NeoGeo on the counter as the sales guy was showing it to a customer and his son (found out later the guy played for the CA Angels). I was listening as he went over all the features with them and got excited at the prospect of owning actual arcade hardware. There was also a Silver set which only came with the console and 1 controller for $400. There were 2 Gold sets in stock at the time. One included Nam1975 and the other Magician Lord. I think he also said they had a set with Baseball Stars, but were out of stock.

Probably not. I don’t think there will ever be a jump again. It’s too mainstream now and they will continue to spend as little as possible developing while maximizing profits. It’s a shame but it’s just the way it is.

It was a sweet spot of power and memory but development was still cheap enough that people would take risks ob really funky games
It really was. I also enjoyed the ps3,360,& Wii era but, after that it really went downhill. The ps2 generation was the greatest by far.

Yeah I still love the ps2 today I think the first game I played on it was crash bandicoot wrath of cortex I remember being amazed at the graphical improvements from the ps1

@MasterGambit so much lies and half truths lol. 128bit only refers to a specific element of the graphics processing capabilities and that's it. Didn't stop sega and sony from using it to their advantage in marketing hype

Probably not. I don’t think there will ever be a jump again. It’s too mainstream now and they will continue to spend as little as possible developing while maximizing profits. It’s a shame but it’s just the way it is.
@fcv1967 With the way graphics are it seems unlikely but as a person who studies chip design I can tell you that in theory it should be possible with regards to multiple ways to advance the speed and power efficiency of computer hardware
