  • A long time friend of Matt's gave him a call on Monday saying his old boss bought an abandoned restoration shop and we need to get there now!! Matt, Mike, Steve and Pete loaded up on Tuesday and headed to New Jersey to see what they could save. The new owners want to clear out the property and buildings to create a work shop for their business. We were given the ability to save what ever parts we could and the rest would be going to scrap. The one garage was getting a new roof as we were digging through piles of parts. We were able to save a trailer load of what appears to be Auburn, Packard, and Duesenberg parts, as well a few Ford Parts. A huge thank you to Bill for giving us a call and to the new owners for allowing us to save some parts!!

Coming through the roof! Yeah, that's not sketchy at all. Damn, you guys are literally preserving that stuff from being just tossed into the dump. Hero status!

Fantastic effort with this haul, the e-type would certainly be one to save as it looks to be an early series 1 or 2. Hopefully you can save more of the vehicles on the property.

That's a crazy pick. I'd give my left arm to get into something like that . It's a shame that whatever you guys didn't grab is going to scrap metal and will one day have Made in China stamped on it .. but like you said , limited time frame and limited resources puts a speed bump into things. Great video once again.

What a great rescue! I hate to imagine how many parts have ended up in the dumpster due to real estate clean-up efforts! I got a set of good old body tools from a dumpster that I luckily found open while they were clearing out a property. If I'd had the room, I'd have had them dump it at my house (it was almost full!). So glad you are giving more life to these treasures.

I know of several in my area and it's always the same story. Old guy doesn't want to sell anything, even for good money. He dies, the kids don't want to mess with it and sell the land to a developer who pays someone to clear the land for sale. That's when everything gets scrapped. It's not often that someone gets a chance to grab stuff before it gets melted down because scrappers only care about weight for the most part.

Space is limited, but sometimes, like that site, I think you should just grab it, put it in the hauler and sort it all later. I realized I know this site. The original owner and his brother restored award winning cars especially Packard and Dusenberg. His painting skills were well known and admired among restorers.

What a great adventure! Like many of your older viewers I'm sure they share my admiration for the skill and dedication you guys show in the work that you do at Iron Trap. Other shops may do great work too but you guys have something else. You have a real mission to keep what's left of great old cars out of the junk yards and back on the road and that most significantly to me is the salvaging of parts that are not related to your projects but just need to be saved. That show real passion and soul ; qualities sorely lacking in the business community today. Hats off to all of you!

If it had been me in that situation, I would have made the owner an unusual proposition. I would have told him that if he was willing to have his crew load up and deliver EVERYTHING as intact as feasibly possible yet reasonably fast that everything no matter what it was that was being gotten rid of to just deliver it to my place and he wouldnt have any disposal fees from the dumping facility and I would pay part of the labor feesas well. From what I was seeing and dstimating got missed there was still a huge amount left and a nice profit would still have been possible. Once it was all delivered and sorted.

I enjoy your videos but I am stumped by you lack of use of your viewers to help identify stuff. Just post a video with the parts you have, ask for comments on what it is with a time stamp. It seems somewhat arrogant that you would think you know more than your 105,000 subscribers. I'm not sure what you paid but if it was at scrap price you could also hire some labour to just load your trailer. I was wondering why you don't invest in a cheap headlamp instead of the flashlights and cell phones? I see you do this over and over while picking. Also find out who the scrap metal dealer is that gets the stuff and try to make a deal with them on anything thrown out.
My last comment is is to please label the parts you have so they don't get thrown out accidentally in the future because they can't be identified. Just think if someone had written on all that stuff you just looked at how much more you would have been able to use. If people really cared about preserving things for the future they would invest in the small amount of effort it takes to do stuff like that.

Living in the Rust Belt has few benefits, but one of those benefits is the old industrial buidings tucked away here and there in out-of-the-way places, filled with objects the modern owners consider to be junk, but which enlighted fellows such as youselves recognize as the treasure it is! In the West, even the oldest cities are new compared with cities where you guys live. Because cities in the West are growing so fast, old buildings are torn dowm or re-purposed long before they can be used as storage places for the "stuff" thier former owners didn't know what to do with, but considered too valuable to throw away. The years passed, the former owners paid their property taxes and eventually died. Their relatives sold or re-purposed the buildings. The modern owners want those building cleared so they can be put too useful purpose. What luck for you guys! Unfortunately, we rarely find old buildings such as these, filled with plunder, in the West of America.

When it you got hours to save as much as can ,, cause your "friend" has to flip the property... sorry cruel words... but it what I see. when people get a deal they don't see the treasure over the QUICK profit in a flip... hope you can save as much as possible. once it's in the dumpster gone,,,

It is my understanding that "Randy Ema" is one of the top Duesenberg experts. He might be able to guide you for selling the Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg parts that you found.

If BAD CHAD had those Duesenberg parts he could build a Chevrolet.
