Fixing the middle of the field pass defense has been a need for quite a while. Glad it was finally addressed.

Edgerrin Cooper ran the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds (with a 1.56 second 10-yard split) at 230 pounds. He was a playmaking force for Texas A&M, especially during an All-American season in 2023. He finished 1st in the SEC in tackles for loss (17.0) and 6th in sacks (8.0) and led the Texas A&M Aggies in total tackles (84) over 12 regular season games. The goal for Jeff Hafley and the Packers defense will be getting Edgerrin Cooper to be a 2nd-level playmaker early in his career. Together, Edgerrin Cooper, and Rasheed Walker could be a fast-flying linebacker duo who can play all 3 downs, play sideline to sideline and disrupt the quarterback and passing lanes. The system is now Jeff Hafley’s. At least stylistically, the 1st-year defensive coordinator will have the Packers looking more like the 49ers and Jets in 2024, and linebackers with speed and talent have become impact players in both locations. Under our new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, the Packers defense will be more aggressive in coverage and pressure. That means Edgerrin Cooper is a great fit due to his 3-down ability and playmaking upside. Jeff Hafley can scheme him as an off-the-ball/edge Blitzer while also maximizing his 2nd-level range in coverage. Plus, Edgerrin Cooper can get to the perimeter in the run game and track down ball carriers. Bowen sees Edgerrin Cooper as having the “speed and talent” to thrive in a “system that will create impact opportunities”. Go Pack Go 💚💛

He is actually oversized compared to the modern NFL linebacker. If you go and look at the top 10 ILB, a lot are right at 6 foot.

Not sure why you dislike linebackers so much. The best defenses in NFL history, across eras, had multiple studs. Even in recent years the top Ds have above average LBs. Its about time they address this position. They now have 2 studs and decent depth. You're about to see how much of a difference this makes. We saw how much better the D got the year they added Campbell. Everyone always wants to harp on interior D line. It's always been about LBs.

Pretty clear the league agrees. Look at the average draft position of linebackers in the last five years. They aren't important. They aren't why SF's defense is good. Look at who Kansas City has rolled out their at linebacker. You can't have terrible ones, but having really good ones is just not important.

@rossuglem5535 Most of the league can't win a game to save their careers. KC isn't a great example, they have an explosive offense and is argument by exception. That's a logical fallacy. 49ers D is absolutely great because of Greenlaw and Warner. When one of those guys goes out of the game they are a lot worse.

WR should not be considered a premium position. How many great receivers never won a championship? A lot .
