⏩ Want to skip ahead and build the entire personal dashboard project from this video? I've just released a tutorial on that: th-cam.com/video/jAQFnnfxDmw/w-d-xo.html We'll continue to work through this example more slowly in future Notion Fundamentals lessons, using it to thoroughly explain everything 🧠
I am a 30-year-old who was just diagnosed with ADHD, I knew my whole life. I have failed miserably with all other time management apps, but I want to be successful so badly. Just got a new tablet and Notion and I feel so ready to enter medical school and achieve my dreams. I don't know if you work for Notion but this tutorial was so helpful and in depth. You explain things so well. All other videos about notion start with templates but I really needed to know from start to finish and you provided that for me.Thank you so much.
Also learn GTD and Second Brain. It's really helpful for organizing your ideas, tasks, notes by areas / resources. I'm still learning Notion and figuring stuff out. I have ADHD and I'm 26 years old so I can relate to the struggle!
I have adhd as well and I appreciate that he separated the learning in multiple videos. That way I can slowly learn at my pace and not feel overwhelmed with information!
41 year old with ADHD trying to get organized as well here. Good luck! My wife is an MD with ADHD. Medicine is one of the best fields for us because someone else does most of the time management for us (scheduling patients). Also, the ER is stressful but is excellent for making us hyperfocus. I wish I did medicine. I went with physics and loved it because it got my brain juices flowing, but after my PhD, things got inevitably "boring" so I crashed and burned. Maybe if I was medicated I would have done better. I am medicated now.
thank you for the video Thomas. Viewers in this video you will learn: 1. Blocks are pretty much every action you perform on Notion such as creating page, link bookmarks, toggle list etcetra. 2. Block Actions. 3. Call Out Block & Synced Callout Block. 4. "Select Text" & "Move To" Tip: Download the "Block Creation" Shortcut List for convenience.
The quality of those tutorials is so good. I've been following your channel Sometimes more, sometimes less active, but the dedication and generell progress makes me super happy. It just took a few years to convince me of notion:-)
I’ve been using Notion for a long time, but since I’ve watching your videos and going back to the fundamentals I’m much more efficient. Thank you for your incredible work.
Your pace and clarity of explanations and outline of content in exceptional! This is the best out of all that I've watched which still left me with tons of questions in my mind. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much, Thomas, for creating such an incredible tutorial! Your clear explanations and step-by-step guidance made it a breeze for me to learn and master the subject. You've truly made a positive impact on my learning journey. I'm grateful for the knowledge you've shared. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you, Thomas, your videos are so helpful and easy to follow. You are a fantastic trainer. Thank you for all the additional templates and information too.
Hi Thomas, What are your rules to stay organized in Notion? What’s your system to finding items? How do you categorize everything? I’m sure this can be personalized however, I’m curious about your system? Thank you. 😊
I have three main systems - 1) Creator's Companion, which is our system for managing everything related to content creation across all our channels (this is also a template: thomasjfrank.com/creators-companion/), 2) my note-taking system, and 3) Ultimate Tasks. I also have a personal dashboard, which is sort of my own home base for Notion - I have my inboxes there via Linked Databases (notes and tasks), and manually-created page links to all the other important areas. I do have some other areas that exist outside of those three main hubs, but that's mainly due to the fact that I'm constantly experimenting and building things. As a template builder, my workspace ends up being messier than it otherwise would be if I was just using Notion for my own purposes.
@@ThomasFrankExplains Thank you so much for your detailed response. It’s super helpful and I will dive deeper in to all three systems you’ve shared. On a different note, I wonder if you’re still using Beeminder for habit tracking? I appreciate your time and I’m excited to learn more about Notion. Cheers! 😊
Wow I Love what I have seen of your stuff so far. You do a great job of explaining Notion so that anyone can make great use of this terrific yet overwhelming tool. Thanks.
Thanks For all the free lessons, Thomas. In India notion is not very much used Or prevalent and therefore I am not sure the potential of it but Notion seems to be interesting and I am very keen to learn more about it.
This was a very fun tutorial! Certainly enjoy learning more about notion. Thought I still don't understand the usage for everything, for instance in the master class we build an Inbox and I have no idea what it is used for, im sure you mentioned but my brain was frying!
Thanks Hugo! An inbox is a "default capture location". It's like a paper tray on your desk where you place any mail, memos, etc during the day. Later, you can take time to process the inbox. It's useful to have because you're often on the go or busy when you receive things (which can happen at all hours), and stopping to process or find the exact folder/project in the moment would take too much time. Think of it like the short-term memory bus for your productivity system!
Thomas! Thank you for this essential user guide for Notion - it's what I needed right now. One quick question - what's the difference between the plus icon and the six dots one?
The six-dot icon is what I call the Block menu. I'm not sure if Notion actually has a name for it since they just always write it that way (and we can't write it that way outside of Notion since there isn't an emoji for it). It contains options for the current block, while the + icon creates a new block below your current position.
Seems like if I put a quote in a sync block, I lose the quote options? I thought I would make my quotes page where I kept the master sync block for my quotes then I could paste them in different spots. And when I paste one in the callout block, I end up with a blank line I can't seem to delete without breaking the sync block, and having the master disappear off my Quotes page? Also noticing that if I go to another page to check, it seems to clear the undo buffer? Is that normal? Configurable?
Thank you, Thomas! This course is fantastic! I have duplicated the notion pages for each video but the notion page for this video doesn't seem to have the "duplicate" option. Or, I am making a rookie mistake and not seeing it. Was that by design or should we be able to duplicate it? Thanks again for the amazing course!
Hi, Thomas. Is there a reason why you would start out with Heading 2 instead of Heading 1? My only guess would be that you may be more flexible starting out at Heading 2, so that you if you ever need a higher level, you still have the Heading 1.
Great content! Thumbs up. Just wonder if there is a trick when you have a DB wit different views and on my Mac I choose a view and do a Command+L. Insert this on a different page but when click it you get a different view, not the one you made the Command+L from?
Yes - when you embed a database on a new page, the top-most view is the one that will load the majority of the time. (There seem to be rare occasions when this doesn't happen, but I'm not sure what causes it). If you want a different view on a different page, I'd recommend using a Linked Database block!
New channel icon 🎆 cool .......We need a main channel icon update.... But nope it is Classic now, yo yo Thomas What is the background music thing besides guitar in "Icicle Swords" that music part....🐎
I received a reply I am happy. ...😅it was actually 'Atmospheric Entry' in it there is a hnmmm which has spacey vibe like deep space sort of..... And in India Today is teachers day so I wish you a happy teachers day ⚡😁🔥
Hello Thomas, please help me, I am trying to export an notion page to another notion account, while exported as Markdown & CSV but when I import it says "COULD NOT FIND INDEX FILE IN ZIP" PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE
This is weird. Windows+; doesn't work for me. Tried it in a text box and on the Quick Links toggle. Any ideas what's wrong? I'll ask IT hubby in case it's my laptop. And no, I'm not on a Mac. ;)
Thanks! I use WordPress, and my site is specifically build using the Elementor site builder plugin and their Hello theme, which is basically a blank canvas. I've got a tutorial video for that planned as well.
There are a couple ways to answer this. Notion has an actual Wiki feature, where you can turn a database into a Wiki: www.notion.so/help/wikis-and-verified-pages I don't really like this feature. While it adds two new properties - Page Owner and Verified - it also introduces some drawbacks that are a bit technical, but significant enough that I don't use the feature in my workspace. Setting that feature aside, I use the word "wiki" interchangably with "knowlege base". To me, a wiki is like a handbook - it's specifically meant as a place to store and organize articles that are meant to be read. E.g. SOPs (standard operating procedures), reference guides, etc. A dashboard is much more flexible - it's just a page that serves some kind of purpose for you. Could be a note-taking dashboard with views of a Notes database, a Task Manager dashboard, etc.

you mean there is no way to synchronize those sync block instead of copy pasting every time?

you got this. Using a proper task management tool can literally change your life (especially when you have adhd). Prepare to be productive!

Thanks Thomas, great tutorial
Thank you I was so confused once I started using Notion.
Wow I Love what I have seen of your stuff so far. You do a great job of explaining Notion so that anyone can make great use of this terrific yet overwhelming tool. Thanks.
You inspire me, Mr.Thomas
thank you
Hi Thomas, I have been using notion for a longtime now for making notes, and it was messy. Thank you for this video..
You're awesome! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks a lot for this video
Your videos are awesome! Exactly what I needed to learn Notion! Thank you so much!!! :)
I used to watch Netflix, now i am watching this and learning a lot.
Brilliant explanation
Thomas, I LOVE this channel and can't wait to try this dashboard asap! Thank you so much!
P.s I'm stealing the reminder on your dashboard!
You’re gonna love the next video then 😄
Hei thank you so much for the tutorial, it systematic and for me (new to notion) i can learn one by one 👍🏽
Do you backup your notes on Notion somewhere?
I do a weekly export. I then import that into Obsidian. Gives me off-line access to my Notion (all but the last week) plus a backup if Notion is down.
Hi Thomas, I suggest that you create a course to show us how you prepare your super engaging tutorials.
Super thanks to you
I gotchu th-cam.com/video/1tZ5-niQtLw/w-d-xo.html
Seems to be a great video for someone who’s already used the app. Do you have any videos that are actually basic? Thank you!

Awsome 👌
Is there any way of creating a coloured callout but without an icon or the white box left behind when I try to remove it please?
is there someway to capitalize the first word in every block or first word in a sentence while writing within notion ?
The intro never gets old.
Thanks. I cant find the Notion Block Reference. Where is it?

Purely aesthetic; when I made this lesson, I was thinking more along the lines of the text size that I liked!

Like the instruments? Bass, a couple synth patches, piano, and drum samples.

Ah, the spacey stuff in AE is mostly my voice! Just with tons of reverb, and it’s being run through Izotope Trash
like that went overhead. Let me search it. Thanks Thomas!
Keep Rocking!

Thank you so much for these terrific videos. You are amazing, and not just because I have taken to many amphetamines today. Ok maybe coffee
Next lesson link points to a wrong video ;) It goes to it self and not the next vid

Are you no longer a fan of Roam? why do you use Notion over Roam?
I just wanted to have everything in one system, and Notion does that better for my purposes than Roam. I still think Roam is really useful.
Notion is impressive! Extremely powerful. Evernote is a joke compared to this.
Yep, and their constant price hikes have gotten really bad
The "next video" is the same video as this..
Too fast
talking too much, this is max 5 minutes video.
Thanks a lot for this video
Thank you
