Wonderful! I can see now why Bizet stipulated that the B-flat be pianissimo. The cast as a whole on this recording is incredible. Bumbry is a great Carmen, Diaz a superb Escamillo and Freni a radiant Micaela. Karajan's conducting is also fantastic!
This ought to be wrong in so many ways, but it might be the most emotional, heart-tugging rendition of the Flower Song available. Vickers was a real artist.
I have never heard an another artists who understands this aria as well as vickers. No note is random. Every change in tempo or dynamics is carefully done to perfectly represent Don José's feelings. Vickers voice doesn't sound pretty, but he is the most musically mature tenor I know, he never shows off in bad taste.
Hey Kaufmann may be a good actor (Idk I haven't seen the full recording) but we're always referring to the technique or how they sing. Because of this, he fails to deliver to sound clear and audible with his closed throat

Kaufmann is to Vickers as Hvorostovsky is to Bastianini.
😂😂😂
Don't mention the K word!

Vickers is such an abile singer and artist! 🥰

la classe absolue, tout y est, timbre raçé, sensibilité, legato infini
No sabía que Vickers podía manejar tan bien el bel canto, qué hermoso escucharlo!
I like Kaufmann's José, but Vickers' rendition is beyond comparison.

@@oliverdelica2289 Very true. Thanks for your reply.
A great artist! His voice was not the most beautiful one but sounded so true.
Great musicality and taste.
Great Jon (not Jonas💩💩)
I queued for hours to see Vickers sing at Covent Garden many years ago. Kaufmann's voice is pretty, but it just doesn't do it for me.
Kaufman does not even compare
Kaufman? Third baseman for the San Diego Padres Double A team, right ?
