Nice lens and your channel is great, I've seen a lot of reviews here. But I just wanted to remind you that the yellow and red filters are made to be used with PB negative, and not colored as you showed.
Thanks. Glad you like the channel. Yes, I’m well aware that the colored filters are used for black and white film photography but since I was adapting this lens to digital I wanted to see how the filters affected the image and share my findings with my viewers. I personally really like the look of the colored filters and have used them on several occasions. Cheers.
I have it under the pentax name. One disadvantage is.. no weather resistance. But these times none of lenses had it. The smc coating only helps in shoots against the sun, maybe with some hightlits too.
Hi, many thanks! Please try the Pentax SMC 3.5/28mm Shift. You won't regret is. You have to stop this lens down to 8.0 in order to get super sharp results. I have one and I'm very pleased with it. Best, Ralf
The slight aberrations is what's nice about lenses like these; film makers especially seem to enjoy softer "character" lenses (and film). Too sharp and you may as well go with a Laowa (and it's new). Hope you can borrow a Kinoptik 9.8mm off someone for a video one day!
I completely agree. I love the look of old lenses with all their imperfections and I have no desire to buy contemporary ones. Would love to try the Kinoptik 9.8mm one day! I’m obsessed with ultra-wide angle lenses!
I have tried 28mm Takumar and was pretty impressed with color separation and saturation. It wasn't the sharpest lens ever, actually wide open it is a bit soft, but at around f4 and up it is noticeably sharper.
@@VintageOptiks Hey, thanks for replying to the comments! May I ask, why have you stopped making videos? I really like your content and the way you go about reviewing lenses. I wish I'd heard about it earlier. I hope you'll make more videos. I am currently discovering your channel and watching old videos. Cheers!
@@jupitereye4322 Hey, you are welcome. I don't mind telling you why I stopped making videos. It's absolutely amazing! Glad to hear that you are enjoying the content of the channel. I hope you have discovered some fun lenses that you can use for your work. Cheers!
Sorry to be off topic but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my login password. I would love any tricks you can give me
Great review, btw what is the difference between the ones that are under Penatax or Takumar name tag, is it the aspherical element, or something else? Thanks
Thank you. Yes. The version that has SMC Takumar in the name has the aspherical element, and the later SMC Pentax version abandoned the aspherical element due to high cost of production.
How did you find such a rare lens? So envious right now as I've always wanted one since the 70's. If you ever decide to sell please let me know. Images look great but try the filters when shooting black and white in either film or digital as it really helps the contrast. Mainly for cloud separation from blue skies. It really makes the clouds pop. Anyway, thanks for the video and please keep adding content. You have a great channel.
Hello and thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoy the content of the channel. I just got lucky with this one. I am always looking for fun and unusual lenses and one day I stumbled upon this beauty and even though it was pricey, I really wanted to try it. And I am very happy that I got it! It's an amazing lens! Sorry to hear that you haven't been able to find one for such a long time. I wish Pentax made more of them so more people can try them. I agree that the filters on this lens are really special! I love the orange and the yellow. They create such cool atmosphere and an interesting mood. I know the filters were meant for black and white photography but I also love using them on digital. Anyhow, I hope you can find one soon. Good luck!
hello, I bought a 28-80mm albinar and I would like to know if you have already tested it or any other albinar and I would like to know your opinion about the lens since unfortunately I did not find many videos the lens 😢☺️. thank you in advance
Hello, I haven't tested the 28-80 Albinar lens you mentioned, so I can't say much about it. But hey, since you bought it, now you can have fun with it and try it out. Enjoy, I hope it's a capable zoom.
Thank you for a lot of great reviews. I enjoy them all! This lens seems very interesting to me. Is there any way to identify the one`s with the Asph element? Is it that one you own and reviewed here, and is there a great difference in performance compared to the one`s produced without that element. Thanks again!
Hi! Thank you for your nice feedback. Glad you enjoy the reviews! Here is how you can recognize the 2 versions. The Aspherical version has 4 feet mark on the distance scale. And the later spherical version has 3 feet mark on the distance scale. I only have the Aspherical version and don't know how the later spherical version compares. But my guess is that the later version won't be as good, because the Aspherical element was added to help minimize aberrations. But since it was too expensive to produce, Pentax had to replace in order to cut costs. If you can find one of these lenses with the aspherical element for a good price definitely get it! It is an incredible lens!
I haven’t tried the 15mm Contax Zeiss, so I can’t say, but if you can find this Takumar definitely get it! I’ve had so many people asking me if I’ll sell mine. But there is no way I’m ever parting with it. :)
HI, what FF sensor resolution would you suggest to use with vith these vintage lenses ? I have got a collection of the SMC K lenses - including this one and the 50mm 1.2 too. I would like to start using them but am not sure which sensor to match them best. I thought the Sony A7s would be the most forgiving. The A7 24mpix might start to be too demanding. Thanks for an opinion.
Hi, I’ve only used this lens with the Sony a7 and the a7III and it performed beautifully when paired with a 24 mpix sensor! It’s great to hear that you also have this special lens! Enjoy!
I also love old lenses, with all the pros and cons. Your fungus cleaning tutorial is legit, now i know what exactly i need to buy. I feel this 15mm lens is unique, so i don't use it no more, seems to be to valuable for me to risk using it. Glad to find your channel!
@@VintageOptiksHi, I can get the SMC Pentax K aspherical for 900€ from a neighbour. He doesn't know he has a special lens (it has the '4' on the focus ring scale). Do you think is a good price?
Yes, indeed: one of the best Super Takumars! I had the opportunity of comparing it with the 5.6/15-Nikkor, and the SMC3.5/15 - in my opinion - was allover a little bit better at half the price of the Nikkor;-)) @philosimot
Yes, you can say that about a lot of vintage lenses. Because not all of them are dirt cheap. Now the market is flooded with cheap modern lenses, which will give the wide angle you need, but will never give you the magic that vintage lenses have.
Wow very cool - wish you were still making videos. I love your approach/format
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the video. I have the 28, 50 and 105 and absolutely love them, especially the 28mm.

Moving up in the world of vintage.

yellow and orange filters are used in black and white images to enhance photos
That’s correct but they are fun to mess around with on digital. I love the weird colors they produce straight out of camera.
The color filters were meant for shooting B&W images
Yes indeed, but they are also fun to use on digital too. I love the colors they produce straight out of camera.
