This is not just a song. It is a soul uniting with its divine lover. It's a mystical experience-----a unity with the divine----the closest that any of us can experience of ecstasy, hope, and unconditional love, without leaving our body!
The beautiful Counter Tenor voice of the incomparable late great Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers is just unbelievably beautiful and soothing. This performance was just Epic! The ending was to die for. Priceless! I am a child of the 60's who was lucky enough to have grown up in my humble opinion during the greatest Rock & Roll decade ever the (60's). I never realized how bless we were with music like this that touches the soul. Love your reaction. It's all from the heart.
This is called ‘soul’ and not every singer has it. They have to feel it and be able - and willing - to put it all out there and make the listener feel it too. The black singers were always known as soul singers, but The Righteous Brothers were one of the first white groups who sang with soul. It was natural to them because they learned to sing by emulating the great R&B singers like Little Richard and Ray Charles. They were so genuine that most listeners of both races thought they WERE black. The term ‘blue-eyed soul’ was coined to describe them.
You expressed how I feel about this song that Bobby swoops you in & out like the tide with his spectacular voice & emotions. I love that I was born 77 years ago and it was right after WW11 when life began to return to normal, homes were bought, families & friends spent time in person together and music added to the good times. The Righteous Brothers natural talents and love of singing comes through in everything they did. Great reaction.
I grew up in the 60s and 70s, Ebb Tide is one of my all-time favorites. The Vietnam war was just starting to hit the evening news TV screens, horrifying, but it was a beautiful time for music. I am sorry that you feel so frightened about what is happening today. My wife and I were commenting about this very subject yesterday. How fortunate we were to have grown up, where we did and when we did, how sorry we were for people today. Another great song from that period of time, may help you find some peace, Out In the Country by Three Dog Night. Follow the advice of that song as I did, with two brothers serving in the military during that time. I went out in the country and found peace. May God grant you peace as well.
The Righteous Brothers music producer and arranger was legendary Phil Spector. Who's famous for his 'Wall of Sound Studio' that produced some of the greatest sounds for singers and groups of the 50's & 60's. This beautiful and powerful orchestration was arranged by Phil Spector. Like Bobby Hatfield's (Live) version of 'Unchained Melody.' Phil Spector made the music arrangements with the NBC Orchestra from 'The Andy Williams Show.' His (Phil Spector) music arrangements for the 'Righteous Brothers' on hits like: "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling." "You'll Never Walk Alone." " Ebb Tide." "Unchained Melody." Shows one how great of a music arranger he truly was. Awesome!
One correction... Unchained Melody was produced by Bill Medley as an album track - he also played piano on it. Phil chose it randomly to be the B side of Hung on You. When the deejays started playing Unchained Melody instead of 'his' creation, he actually called the radio stations to stop playing it. When it became clear that Unchained was going to be the hit, he had his name put on future pressings of the record as producer....
Huge fan of theirs since 64, this gorgeous song is as good as Unchained Melody. They never disappoint! Bobby did this by himself Bill did the same. Bill did Brown Eyed Woman with the Blossoms as background in 68 it was incredible. Best version is on TH-cam at Playboy Club (family friendly).
I don't want to fall into the intergenerational trap of dissing later generations' music, but really, you were wooed by this music. Can hip hop or rap woo women? I don't think so.
What you are hearing is Bobby Hartfield's genuine voice. No autotune, no fancy altering. 100% talent.
I'm glad you liked this masterpiece.

This is one of Bobby Hatfield’s most powerful, beautiful songs. He sang with such emotional connection to the listener.

They were both exceptional singers. They both had the "it" factor. To me they were the greatest Duo ever.
