Fun fact: Newfoundland dogs were working dogs bred to handle the North Atlantic Ocean to help fishermen and rescue drowning people. They got a thick waterproof double layer coat made to keep them warm in the water, which also works quite nice for snow as well.

I can tell you as someone who’s bin raised with the same breed, they usually are more uncomfortable in room temperatures and start panting , need extra water for hydration ect.. this dog is basically in its own giant bedroom 🛌
People don't think about the fact that there are dear, elk, moose, mtn lions etc at high elevations that withstand brutally low temps even without the thick coats like these dogs. My bull terrier got out of my yard and disappeared for the night just as a -20 storm rolled through. Thought I was never gonna see my dog alive again. Turned up the next day 3miles from home sniffing around some dumpsters as right as rain!

Huskies pulls/pulled sleds in -50 climates ffs. There's dogs in Yakutia right now that are fine being in the coldest place on the planet. My apologies for the rant, but ignorant nosey people are the worst.

I have one that hides behind a big Maple tree. Its over 5 feet thick. But I can see her butt but if she can't see me then her beautiful brain tells her I can't see her. I tell her Paris I can see you and then she moves just a little bit. I purchased my girl Connie from the same breeder in France, I'm US, that I also got Paris and Charles de Pawlls from. When Connie was 13 weeks old she was in my monster deep ditch playing in the water all night and it was -13 degrees overnight. She thought it was a great game and I'm trying to keep my 5000.00 investment safe.
I had a Blue Heeler who's preferred place to sleep from the 1st of November to the 1st of May in Idaho was on the snowdrift on top of her dog house. She passed away when she was 17 and never did figure out how to use the inside of that dog house she would sleep under the overhangs of the roof and on top of it if she could find enough snow to keep it flat but never did figure out how to use the inside!
Gotta take my Golden to the show. My mom wanted him in this tropical weather, it's probably hell for him in the summer, (he's always in an AC'd room), and I feel he deserves to experience weather so cold he doesn't even need to pant.
Mine passed in 2019 she used to pretend she was a snowplow she would just stick her head straight in the snow and walk around the house for hours even slept outside in the middle of winter to sometimes
Sorry for your loss. Newfies are so awesome. One of my favorite breeds. My lil 10lb pup once made friends with a 200lb Newfie girl. Gentle giantess, of course. They were SO cute together. Her head was bigger than his whole body.

The Northern Breeds are so much tougher when it comes to the cold and snow. Malamutes are good to about -45 below. This snow is playtime for them. It's the heat that will kill them.

Not at all: Newfoundlands have a dense, oily, double coat that is effectively waterproof and VERY insulating. Your dog isn't cold. At all.
