Whoever is doing the arrangments for theseopening numbers is seriously talented. They blend first off this rediculous number of voices, but blends the groups as a whole. Whenever the lead changes it doesn't just change from one lead singer to the next but the tone and texture changes to the style of the group that lead belongs to. It's impressive that they're able to put these arrangments together this quickly from week to week, along with the choreography.
It helps when you start with thousands of singers auditioning and get to cherry pick it down to the talented handful who can deliver what the producers want. No doubt many talented performers got left behind when they couldn't keep up.
Why this show got cancelled while The Voice is still going will forever baffle me. Hearing what groups of people can do with just their voices like this is WAY more interesting than single singers competing against each other.
It's probably weird, but I get emotional that people are able to put together something *this* beautiful. (Including all the people behind the scenes of course.) People are wonderful.
I so agree with Damionte's comments about whoever put the arrangements together. I noticed that on the Episode 2 season opener too. They really were able to pinpoint who should do the solos. I love on this one how they brought On the Rocks in for the bridge. Incredibly talented. Also, song choice very good.
Look, I love this song, this performance, this show, this season in particular. In fact, I think this is the only season of this show where I can honestly say I liked all the groups to some extent. But let's be honest here: Who was just lounging around one day, listening to Green Day, and thought "Gee, this sure is great, but you know what could make it even better? Jerry Lawson."
everyone related to this show wanted the Backbeats to win. first, they were from Los Angeles, where the show is filmed, second, they gave them almost all the big parts on the compilation performances, and third, on the actual compilations, the cameras seemed to be focused on them. i liked OTR though
@n4b yeah. she did. "do you know whats worth fighting for? when it's not worth dying for? does it take your breath away and you feel yourself suffocating?" thats how it goes.
I don't know where you got a clip of this where the song isn't repeatedly interrupted by noise from the audience, but it sounds great. And for a non-soloist, Jeff Rogers seems to get his face on camera a lot. I guess someone in the control booth knows a good thing when they see it.
@hewhoisfuzzy This was a song used in the Green Day music-inspired Broadway musical "American Idiot". Search for the Tony performance. The choir sound is intentional. I loved it. It was more creative than the average ensemble song.
i used to like the original version of this song, but then my sister started listening soooooooo much and now i don't like it, not because it's a bad song but because of her, but when i heard this, i looooooooooooved it and now i'm gonna be the one listening to this a lot and she's gonna be the annoyed one : )
@Smileymusicbaby95 actually before joining up with the talk of the town Jerry Lawson had multiple albums with the percussions. With talk of the town he released an album and sang with Rod Stewart for benefits. You don't seem to be correct to me either.
CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG!! THIS IS A FANTASTIC SINGING GROUP!!! MY FAVORITE SINGING GROUPS IN THE SING OFF ARE DELILAH AND BACK BEATS!! AAAAAAA!!!!! MY FAV. PERSON IS 0:6- 0:13. :D
I don't - sincerely don't - understand why some people are bashing Jerry Lawson and the Talk of the Town. They are the epitome of class, and are seriously miles better than most of the groups on that stage with their unison and harmony. Not dissing any of the others, mind you, but Talk of the Town are real pros.
@MeganTheWorldLeader its more or less different.... The Backbeats = The SoCals Nota = Committed On The Rocks = The Beelzebubs and maybe Voices of Lee = Groove for Thought... There were a lot more groups with unique genres and people. Last year there was 8 groups and 5 of those groups were all male or all female. there were a lot of mixed groups this year, and a lot of male groups with the quality and uniqueness like Nota. Have you noticed that all but 2 all male groups had 6 vocalists?
OTR did the verse AMAZINGLY!!!!!!!!! That girl who sung lead is small but she can really pack a punch. She could have been a little louder though. Overall though it's awesome
@theredm35 This is.You can tell because it's stripped down. I personally like the American Idiot Version better. I also performed that version with my school, so I'm slightly biased :)
@PooPooVDL You didn't hurt me :) I just think that for example if under the song entitled "get back" someone writes "X people can't get back" describing people who voted "i don't like" it's kinda funny :) but writing that someone is deaf or have no ears just because they don't like some song is... mm... maybe not rude, but let's say: not nice. ;)
@yaowdonow I do like greenday, both old school and new school but I just cant say that his voice is amazing because its not. It fits his music and the genre but its not great by any means. I liked the videos but I guess our definitions of great singing is different. And no a unique voice doesnt necessarily mean a very good voice lol so I have no idea what you mean by that. His voice stands out yes but to me it does not mean its great, I simply just like his music because of the lyrics.

Deke Sharon arranged all the big group numbers like these. He also arranged all the songs for the Pitch Perfect movies!

Only singing competition that I watched every week: I usually watch b1st & last. Really entertaining.
Why this show got cancelled while The Voice is still going will forever baffle me. Hearing what groups of people can do with just their voices like this is WAY more interesting than single singers competing against each other.

This lives rent free in my head well over a decade later. Huh.
It is almost hard to believe that this is a competition. The harmonies and blending between all these groups is awesome.
Man, I have replayed these Opening performances so many times. All of these contestants were astounding.
3 minutes of pure shivers down my spine. These people are perfect.
I love this performance. The choreography is really PREPARED AND BEAUTIFUL.
So many wonderful voices in harmony... this had to be almost a religious experience to participate. I REALLY MISS THIS SHOW ON TV!
they need to put this show back up!
Not enough ratings.
Best musical cast ever. Doesn't matter what musical.
I so agree with Damionte's comments about whoever put the arrangements together. I noticed that on the Episode 2 season opener too. They really were able to pinpoint who should do the solos.

Still listen to this. Im not saying this show was profitable, but the world really needs a show like this on tv
personally my favorite is Street Corner Symphony, but the girl from the Backbeats really nailed the lead on this one
Brought to tears by this performance... So amazing!!
I've been watching this for years
This gave me chills
Too much talent on one stage DAMN!
the flow , the energy and choreograph ... love it
I love this song!!! I wonder how they all sing together with different parts and don't mess up!! This is AMAZING!
Still cry when I listen to this song! Why isn't this show on anymore?!!
i feel really bad for their sound guy having to keep track of so many microphones. xD
Alex's(On the rock) beatboxing is really strong, can hear his drumset so prominently even in such big group.
Look, I love this song, this performance, this show, this season in particular. In fact, I think this is the only season of this show where I can honestly say I liked all the groups to some extent.

😭😭😭they killed it 👏 👏 👏

Season 2 is definitely in my top 3 seasons for this show =)
I truly think this show WASNT rigged, because they tried so hard to push for Street Corner Symphony and they still didnt win
Agree
GOSH! that was amazing! it made the hair in the back of my neck, and all over my body, stood up! LITERALLY!
I really missed this. One of the best competitions ever!
I love the background music in the first few seconds of this song. it sounds amazing
That chick in the beginning is SO pretty. Beautiful voice too. Is she an angel?
Can't they all just become one big group and tour the world?
I love that the line they gave commited was "Your Faith walks on broken glass" that's awsome.
Season 2 will always be the best, because of performances like THIS.
this is still amazing 😉
So badass when Street Corner Symphony walks in :D
They should've won :(
this was really an awesome production number! Bravo!!!
This gives me hope for the future. So much happy.
When Jeremy comes out & sings his beautiful voice cuts through the crowd.
MAN, was that epic.
My favorite opener...
pra mim uma das melhores aberturas do the sing off.
Estoy de acuerdo con que suena impresionante!
its funny how even the sound of jerry lawson &talk of the town sounds good in this song
This year's season finale is going to be epic.
I always get happier when I see them singing happily.
@n4b yeah. she did. "do you know whats worth fighting for? when it's not worth dying for? does it take your breath away and you feel yourself suffocating?" thats how it goes.
2:08 - 2:20 I needed that front wide shot
The first group that was singing the blond one was in pitch perfect
I don't know where you got a clip of this where the song isn't repeatedly interrupted by noise from the audience, but it sounds great.
And for a non-soloist, Jeff Rogers seems to get his face on camera a lot. I guess someone in the control booth knows a good thing when they see it.

I love Green Day so much and when i found this song i was blown away of how good it is! It's amazing!
Season 4 please be at least half as great as this!
i used to like the original version of this song, but then my sister started listening soooooooo much and now i don't like it, not because it's a bad song but because of her, but when i heard this, i looooooooooooved it and now i'm gonna be the one listening to this a lot and she's gonna be the annoyed one : )

God that guy from Street Corner is AMAZING
That key change rocked my socks off.
CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG!! THIS IS A FANTASTIC SINGING GROUP!!! MY FAVORITE SINGING GROUPS IN THE SING OFF ARE DELILAH AND BACK BEATS!! AAAAAAA!!!!! MY FAV. PERSON IS 0:6- 0:13. :D
i am stunned!
I bought this on itunes because it's just that awesome. :)
that guy from Comitted sounds like autotuned but mahn his voice was natural smooth like butter on grits
i keep playing the video. amazing!
i absolutely adore the guy in the purple with the dreads!! whats his name?
@Gmaniac55 Jerry Lawson and Talk of the Town were awesome
They did the American Idiot version justice!
wow amazing I loved it! I am learning this song right now and im trying to learn my part and its quite hard but i love this version :)
Talent lives. I like it.
THE SING-OFF GOT RENEWED FOR A FOUR SEASON!!!!!!!
I don't - sincerely don't - understand why some people are bashing Jerry Lawson and the Talk of the Town. They are the epitome of class, and are seriously miles better than most of the groups on that stage with their unison and harmony. Broadway Idiot version, amazing

The female beatboxer is a fucking beast
Spot on!
1:28, far right in the middle row
Where did these goosebumps come from?
That was so cool I wish I knew how to sing I sound like a dying cat
The opening numbers were much better in Season 2 than Season 3. They had more soul, more personality, better solos.
You know what would have made that PERFECT? If Billy Joe came out on stage....
OTR did the verse AMAZINGLY!!!!!!!!! That girl who sung lead is small but she can really pack a punch. She could have been a little louder though. Overall though it's awesome
i like this song
Awesome
goosebumps...
magnifique!!
@kiraxias94 she's Catherine Ricafort :)))
@theredm35 This is.You can tell because it's stripped down. I personally like the American Idiot Version better. I also performed that version with my school, so I'm slightly biased :)
I like it :X
Nice job guys
I've always wanted to hear Green Day done a cappella. I'd live a punk themed episode.
Holy shit the best thing I have ever heard
So sad The Sing Off is over
Pretty awesome :D
i watch theese and this whole group reminds me of like a flash mob lmao!!!!
Seen the girl in blue dress sing on youtube somewhere... cant remember where tho :/
@PooPooVDL You didn't hurt me :) I just think that for example if under the song entitled "get back" someone writes "X people can't get back" describing people who voted "i don't like" it's kinda funny :) but writing that someone is deaf or have no ears just because they don't like some song is... mm... maybe not rude, but let's say: not nice. ;)
AHHH THEY DID THE BROADWAY VERSION!!!!!!!!
Hey is that Courtney Jensen from season 1?
@Funkytripz i'm from the Netherlands
Who is the group in black & yellow at 1:21

@Ducholuszka that's no problem, you have your own opinion, i just like to write comments like that... sorry if i hurt you or something...
