    I went to this semi and wasn't impressed with my first visit to the lane. We were in an upper section of the stand, near the cameras and it was a wooden structure. It felt like it would collapse at any moment! Felt sorry for Mark Wright breaking his leg, though we didn't know the extent of his injury until after the game. A tough semi-final, which culminated into one of Liverpool's most successful seasons, for they achieve the league and cup double. A great time to be a Liverpool supporter.

    Brilliant weekend watching the reds get to Wembley, spotted myself in the crowd with a mustard colour leather jacket on, wondering what happened to it

    What a great day.
    Liverpool won and I won 20 quid on the grand national when West Tip won.
    LFC were a lot better this season than the previous season.

    They always seemed more often than not to be semi venues but other grounds have been used, before this game and since.

    I'd guess it's cause North London is seemingly the geographical halfway point between Liverpool & Southampton in terms of road travel. You'll recall that When Liverpool played Portsmouth in 1992 that game was staged at Highbury.

      The choice of White Hart Lane was a bit crazy. Should really have been at Villa Park - which they chose for the other semi that year (Everton v Sheff Wed) - which you thought would have been played in Manchester (midway between Liverpool and Sheffield).

      As an Evertonian I remember Old Trafford was originally chosen to host the Everton v Sheff Wed semi but was changed to Villa Park at the 11th hour as the FA didn't think it would be good idea to have 25,000 to 30,000 Scousers in Manchester given the enmity between people from both Cities which was silly as Everton had played 4 FA Cup semis and 2 League Cup final replays at Old Trafford and Maine Road between 1968 and 1984. Had our semi been played at Old Trafford I'm sure Southampton v Liverpool would have been at Villa Park.

      But there was murder at the 1985 semi final at Goodison between Liverpool and United that's why they didn't want so many Everton in Manchester for our semi against Sheff weds

      That semi in 1992 @ Highbury is where D.Anderton made his name and John Barnes broke Pompey hearts.

    If they had to use North London, why not use Highbury, that had the bigger capacity. Crazy that it wasn't at Villa Park. As already mentioned the other semi final should have been at Old Trafford or Maine Road

      bucketofing cos villa park was hostin everton that day and they didnt use highbury after saints v everton fought on pitch 84

      @jetjunkjiver8194 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      red flag yep pretty much. As Highbury didn’t and wouldn’t install perimeter fencing, the FA did not allow Highbury to be chosen as a semi-final venue after the ‘84 pitch invasion.

      apathyintheuk That’s correct. I should of mentioned it wasn’t used as a semi final venue for the remainder of the 80’s due to the lack of fencing. Then of course, Hillsborough.

      How right Arsenal were!! The other concern was the animosity towards Liverpool and Manchester. The FA had mentioned at the time there reluctance to allow a semi final in Manchester involving any Merseyside club. Especially after the hooligan fest that was the previous years semi between Liverpool and Utd.
