Fun fact about Stan Brakhage: He was a professor to two young filmmakers, Matt and Trey, in the University of Colorado. They'd go on to make a show called 'South Park'.
Wow that's incredible!!!
Brakhage was even a cast member in their first film, Cannibal: The Musical
Lol i didnt expect even your brief teaser of The Flicker to bother me like it did. I will definitely be avoiding the whole thing! 😅
I always enjoy watching your videos, you help to make all of these unknowns easy to digest!
In the Labyrinth deserves an honorable mention for the experimental films of the 1960s
Been a while since you've done something like this. Nice to see you getting back into it
Thank you so much for this
This is so insightful! Great job
Thank you!!
You are an absolute madlad for making this video, I just found your channel, thank you for your work!
Haha, thank you for watching!
a great introductory video. these are hard to come by. well done.
This video is pure gold.
I loved the video!
I think the one thing I like the most visual in abstract/experimental video "arrangements" are overplayed semi transparent effects with
different hues.
Like many entities speaking as one wrapped up in chaos.
thank you !
This explains so much of why my work looks the way it does. My parents were 60s art enthusiasts. Underground, abstract, and psychedelic...alot of these make me think of the ring...like ima get a phone call with a death sentence lol
please make a video about collage films :)
7:47 watch I saw gasped noes lux aeturna in theaters and the end is basically just a strobe light and it was amazing
Woohoo!
It's important to include photosensitive seizure warnings when showing material from filmmakers such as Tony Conrad, Paul Sharits, Peter Kubelka, etc. That may sound obvious for those already familiar with their work but I imagine a video such as this could be used for educational purposes by students who might not be.
Or otherwise a warning for general discomfort 👍
rip kenneth anger
The other day I watched Warhol's Empire. A mess but life-changing.
I have a dvd that is a compilation of Jan Svankmajer's stop motion stuff. It's pretty bizarre.
Can you find any films by Sam wells?

As an epileptic, strobe is not art
You forgot to include Godard and other New Wave fil directors from France?
I did not forget. I don't consider them experimental films, but rather art house.
@@kubricklynch Are they like a side thing to experimental films in your opinion?
@@Urlocallordandsavior They have experimental qualities but are not full-on experimental films. (For the most part, at least) They still have narratives usually.
War-hole = murder to art
Edit: oh, sh... and Yon Kojono .-.
