Great video. Many of those models give me ideas for some of my stuff. I finally got s chance to find and watch it. Congrats again for the hardware/recognition both you and your sons received for your entries. Yes, this is a "bucket list" trip for me as well. I thought it was farther west and south than it is located so maybe a trip is in the works. I'm working on a couple of scratchbuilds and trying to finish at least two other Bandai SW kits - both X-Wings. I'm going to have a hard time getting them done for Torcan or even Heritagecon let alone for Wonderfest. LOL
Thanks for the kind words! I know what you mean about having a hard time getting things finished…I’m always racing to the finish line with my builds, and putting the final touches on my models the night before a contest, even when I have a year to build something! Hopefully you can get your kits built…maybe you can enter them in Wonderfest 2025!
Did not know you were from Ottawa as well. Great video and 'trip report'. So many fantastic models that it would be excruciating having to judge at this event. My personal 'sentimental' favourite is the Land of the Giants diorama. You and your family are very talented model builders. Aside from building and painting a few Warhammer figures years ago, my son has no interest in models, so consider yourself lucky. It's a long trip but I'm hoping that I can make it down to this event one year. (PS: The unknown paint scheme of that Gallileo at the 6:45 mark is the classic Ford GT40 of the 60's '24 Hours of Lemans' car racing.)
I don’t envy the judges either…so much good work on display. I’m very happy with the open judging system they use, it would be so unfair (not to mention difficult) to whittle everything down to 1st, 2nd, 3rd. That Land of the Giants diorama was quite cool! Thanks for the compliments too…I’ve been building with the kids since they were old enough to hold a paintbrush; they’re now in their 30s and 20s and still active in the hobby. Thanks for identifying the paint scheme, and thank you for commenting!
18:11 that Ornithopter is spectacular. That a scratch build? It has to be, I can only ever find the Meng kit. I'm hoping I'm wrong and there is a larger one. I love the Villaneuve Dune 'thopters.
Had to have been…it was way too large to be the Meng kit. When you was editing the vid I realized there were two large ‘thopters on display, and I didn’t even realize. THAT’s what I meant by sensory overload, LOL!
Good eyes, Margaret! Nope…that’s G.U.S. (Generally Useful Synthezoid). He’s the newest member of the Scale Icons team, and you’ll be seeing a lot more of him in future videos!
Cool vlog, so many talented people that build sci fi models. Well done 😊
The talent on display was amazing! Thanks for your comment Margaret!
Nice opening shot!
Thanks Andrew…I meant to get a quick on camera interview with you, but time got away from me. Maybe next year!
Thank you, always love to see summaries of such events, since they are always too far for me to actually visit
I’m glad you enjoyed it Max! Hopefully you can get to something this one day…it took me over 20 years of trying, but the stars finally aligned.
Great Vid! Glad you had a great time at Wonderfest!
Thank you!

@@scaleicons - we shall see. A lot of life can happen between now and then. In the meantime good luck with your projects!
