Side info: The Kapustin clip from the intro is from a Russian film called "When The Song Does Not End" / "Когда песня не кончается" (1964). The movie looks rather weird, but I can't judge since I could only find it in Russian.
@@kyokusei Aha! Thank you, that makes sense. I don’t think ciararespect above is correct in thinking the video was sped up? Doesn’t look that way to me.
Some suggestions would be : -Franck 1st trio (climax of middle-end 1st mvmt) -Saint-Saens 5th concerto (end of last mvmt) -Scriabin piano concerto (end of last mvmt) -Martucci 2nd piano concerto (1st mvmt middle part) -Medtner fairy tale op 35 no 4 (middle climax) -Chausson concert end of last mvmt -Reger Variations and Fugue on a theme by Bach - the fugue development -Grieg Ballade - climax before theme return at the end -Paderewski sonata 1st mvmt (middle build up) -Enescu Suite no 2 : ending of Bourrée -Theodore Dubois 2nd concerto : 1st mvmt -Dussek Fantasia -Joseph Marx : piano concerto (end of 1st) -Macdowell 1st concerto end of 1st mvmt -Godowsky Passacaglia (all climaxes are insane) -Lekeu piano sonata - fugue -Glazunov 1st piano concerto 1st mvmt climax -Chabrier Pièces pittoresques : improvisation
Wow - I so thoroughly agree with almost all of these! Nice to see some love for Chausson's Concert for Piano Violin and String Quartet, Reger's Bach variations and Godowsky's passacaglia (some of my all time favourites).
my favorites climaxes...(from underrated composers) Ornstein's Piano Sonata No. 4 (ending of the 4th movement) Stanchinsky's Nocturne (mosso ed agitato section) Atterberg's Piano Concerto (all of the 3rd movement) Rautavaara's Piano Concerto No. 1(ending of the 3rd movement) Blumenfeld's Piano Sonata-Fantasie (ending of the 3rd movement) Kosenko's Piano Sonata No. 2 (development of the 1st movement) Reubke's Piano Sonata (ending section of the 3rd movement) Libermann's İmpromptu No. 1 (un poco piu mosso to ending) Revutsky's Piano Concerto No. 2 (last half of the 4th movement) Lyapunov's Transcendental Etude No. 12 (ending section) Thalberg's Grande Fantasie pour le Barber de Seville (ending section) Schlozer's Concert Etude No. 2 (ending section) Mereaux's Etude No. 8 (middle section) Dohnányi's Concert Etude No. 6 (entirely) Busoni's Piano Concerto (4th movement "All' İtaliana" molto concitato, marciando ..a passo accelerato section) Albeniz's İberia Lavapies (the first section) For part 4
One suggestion: Rachmaninoff's Sonata No. 1 in D minor (op. 28). This sonata features at least 3 climaxes, incredible musical ideas throughout, and a very explosive coda. Yet, said piece is unfortunately one of Rachmaninoff's least popular and underperformed works likely due to its performance length of roughly 30 minutes. Notable performances include the ones by Lugansky, Chochieva, and Hayroudinoff.
May I recommend the breathtaking build up and climax that begin at around 11:30 minutes (in Marc-André Hamelin’s performance, the most popular one on TH-cam) into Ferruccio Busoni’s Piano Concerto in C Major, in the first movement?
For sure you are missing Rachmaninoff Sonata no 2 op 36 2nd movement climax? Or if we talk violin, Korngold violin concerto (I know this series is talking about piano climaxes but Korngold violin concerto is a honorable mention
You should check out Sergei Bortkiewicz’s piano concertos. They’re so amazing, especially his first two! Alkan’s concerto da camera op. 10 no. 2 is also great
