    In an interview, Matt gave his reason for the lyrics in this song and it's pretty deep. The guy rooted his identity in his faith in God, only to have his own doubt cave in on everything he thought he knew.
    As someone who's going through the same thing, I want to tell Christians to try and understand these worldviews shadowed in doubt. This is real, yall. When I hear a Christian dismiss something like this song for using the F word, I think they are too stubborn to understand the human condition. The man lost his identity...how would you feel?

      But he said the word fuck! So all of these absolute dorks can’t even hear the message of the song.

    • @perseusdeme
      @perseusdeme ปีที่แล้ว

      So Christians who have young kids and don't want them to drop F bombs when singing don't understand the human condition?
      In that case, what's wrong with young girls singing along to Cardi B and twerking? That's part of the human condition.
      You act like trying to better yourself and not be a part of the world is a bad thing. Everything you listen to affects you consciously or subconsciously. It's actually admirable for people to have morals / convictions and actually stand up for them instead of being a wishy washy Sunday warrior who only acts Christian on Sunday in front of people at church.

    God & Drugs: Drug addiction
    Glass Houses: Casting Judgment
    Ghost: Lying/Egocentrism
    One Man Army: Pride
    ...and people are losing it over a swear word? TCC has been talking about real-life issues and pushing boundaries for years.
    This band is honest. I’d prefer an honesty over censorship, any day. I love Jesus, and I’m not going to pretend to be perfect (He’s the only perfect one, anyway). I’ve dropped f-bombs. I’ve sinned- like the rest of you, I’m a flawed and incredibly loved child of God.
    This song rings true to anyone struggling to find their center, and for those of us Christians, that center is in God. I’ve pulled away from God, I’ve felt anger, and I’ve felt resentment. I’ve felt the dark loneliness that feeling forsaken can bring. I’ve been lost. And I’ve known the love that only God can give us when I finally realized that He was with me all along as I made my way back. If you lose all of the meaning in this song over one word that is not societally “appropriate”, then you missed a great message.

      Agreed. If someone is hung up on a swear word they're missing the bigger meaning of this song. I'm a Christian and I occasionally swear. I think Christians make it a bigger issue then it is / needs to be.

    As someone that continues to identify my self as a person of faith, it breaks my heart that others in those communities would dismiss the real feelings depicted in these lyrics. The first time I heard this song it brought me to tears because I've known many people that have gone through this feeling of loss and disappointment when their faith was put out. I know for some tbe transition isn't a big deal but for others it truly is this huge question of "well then what the fuck was the point of *this part* of my life?" Its sad to me that some Christians can't EMPATHIZE with that reality. Its normal and I think even healthy to at some point question it all. For some the questions just happen to be louder than what they thought their faith was. We don't have the right to condemn that. They're still just other humans trying to understand who they are in this massive world. Amd that's the beauty of what it is to wonder.

    As someone who doesn't like profanity and believes as Christians we need to avoid it, I find the usage of it in this song to be completely necessary and really adds to the song. The usage of the word was to help covey the message of the song. It was used artisically. He is singing about feeling distant from God, so I think the word served its purpose on multiple levels to show the emotional state as well as a sense of "worldliness" that he finds himself pulled in. The whole song is about the struggle. I love it.

    • @FURF0XSAKE
      @FURF0XSAKE 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you "believe as Christians we need to avoid it"? What's Christianity actually got to do with swearing, because it's not written anywhere saying you guys can't swear.

  • @WillyPistachio
    @WillyPistachio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This song reveals the humanity of all of us. There is no such thing as a perfect human or perfect Christian. To rebuke this song for a curse word is to rebuke yourselves and the meaning behind the struggles we all face during life.

    Even though I do not agree with the use of the f word, I understand why they used it for the song. It's about a man who feels like he's falling in his faith. He's angry, confused, distraught. As a Christian, I've gone through these kinds of times, more often than I would like to admit, and it can be scary because on one hand, you want to believe, but on the other hand, you think 'what if it's all for nothing?' That's when I pray harder. Even though I do not feel God's presence, I continue to pray. For as long as there is good in this world, God is still here.

    The Classic Crime has never been about singing comfortable feel-good "praise and worship" style songs. That's why I love them! They've been a favorite Christian band of mine for years! "Glass Houses" has been sung at the top of my lungs in my car more times than I can count.

    Not really a Christian but I always admired The Classic Crime for having such emotion and heart. They could make you feel anything and had such a beautiful vocabulary.
    not to say they've lost their vocabulary I'm just a little shocked that they dropped the f bomb.
    oh well. I still love you guys.
    The cussing doesn't bother me. I listen to limp bizkit lol. It just caught me by surprise. I actually had to rewind the song to make sure that's what you said lol. keep rocking. You sound beautiful as always!

    This is definitely the make or break song for a lot of people. If this song isn't my favorite on the album, it's in the top 3 easily.
    It met me right where I am in so many ways. I'm a biblical studies major that's recently had a rough year of death, breaking off an engagement, and ultimately just plain old loneliness. So many times over the past year, I've wondered where that wonder went, with all the sadness, anger, and confusion directed more at myself than anything. And sometimes all you need is for someone to have been there.
    I love that so much of Wonder is answered in Black & White as well.

    Agreed. Best song on the album. When I first heard it I had to step back for a moment and contemplate the lyrics and their purpose and usage. Challenged I spend much time researching and studying how I should view the song and it's language usage and have truly grown spiritually because of it. Interesting enough, it was after listening to the song many times and through much time in thought and study that I realized that was the intention of the song in the first place. To express the struggling perspective on organized religion and what truth really is over opinion through this song to the point it challenges others to do the same is true accountability. Well done TCC.

    Ahaha 3 seconds away from putting this on the YOUTH playlist thank the lord I listened to the rest of it because that would’ve been one interesting Sunday service... it should have like an explicit language label warning on this or something because I legitimately almost played this song with the f bomb in it in a church. Was shared this by a friend in the LGBT+ community about when they came out. Rocks hard, me coming out as well, I see what they see as well.
    I grew up Christian/Lutheran and I have to say, the church is one of the worst things imaginable. The Church mind you, not the lessons because a Church are people and the people there are so pious and hurtful. Looking back, I'm glad I left after twenty some odd years. Now I can finally find myself and understand why the wonder died in me too.

    that is stinking deep as the Marianas Trench. it shows maturity to explore your own doubts. The bible merely says not to swear, which is different than vulgarity. in the Neẃ Testament you can find language that equates to modern versions of bull$#it, and bloody tampons. i am not saying i agree with the "F"bomb, but maybe it shouldn't be as shocking as it is.

    • @Sfudgie1985
      @Sfudgie1985 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not a huge fan of the swearing but they are not a "Christian" band. They are a band with at least one person (Matt) who professes to be. There is a huge section of the Christian community (especially out in the Seattle area) who have decided over the past 10 or so years that some of the more traditionally taboo things for Christians (i.e. swearing/masturbation) aren't really that big of a deal. I don't really agree but it's the bands decision. Depending on what they/you believe they will have to answer (whether right or wrong) to God. As for me I will just listened to the edited version.

      For better or for worse I did not even notice it until I saw your comment. Now that I think about it, I actually really like that they threw it in there. It makes the song feel more honest and genuine, even if a bit blunt. This song (and indeed this album) deals with some pretty heavy, introspective stuff. They're already bearing all emotionally, I think that a no-holds-barred language only reinforces that.

    • @Tselel
      @Tselel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I appreciate it, just because it gets the point across best. No other phrasing there has that kind of texture that makes you subconsciously flinch blended with Matt's tone of defeat. That feeling of pain in the wake of self-defeat sets the emotional precedent for the rest of the song.

      Dimento PLexitronum yes they were swearing. A lot of the words are just translated to get the gist of what they're trying to say. So like if someone was trying to translate "you're fucking stupid", they might not include the word "fucking" because it's just there for emphasis and it might confuse a non-English speaker because technically "fucking" means sex. So they might just translate it to "you're unbelievably stupid". So the reader gets the gist, but might not understand that they are swearing.

    I love this song and find it so, so relevant. TCC has a way of cutting me to the core with their sound and lyrics. I might be a weirdo but I have to strategically listen to this song so it skips the f-bomb, though. Sometimes I start it at :52 so I don't have to worry about pausing it and skipping, because it's a jarring line, and it really, really interrupts the heart of the song for me. I'm really disappointed in the band's choice to include what I consider tasteless language when a similarly intense and less vulgar word could have a better emotional impact, but alas, it's done. Still, it's such a fantastic song, so it's a shame.

    • @FURF0XSAKE
      @FURF0XSAKE 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why? How does that at all affect the quality of the band? The only thing them swearing really does is piss off pretencious arseholes who think the depth of lyrics is lessened by cursing, and mindless Christians who hate swearing because that's what they think their religion dictates (even though it doesn't really, it's just what they've been told to believe)

    • @arielleshiloh6670
      @arielleshiloh6670 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christianity isn’t just a religion it’s a lifestyle, you dedicate your life to Jesus. And so people are choosing to live a life with God, it’s a lifestyle of living with the cross in your life DAILY. And to some people that consists of not swearing. I hope you can understand everyone has their own opinions and beliefs. Personally I think it’s an amazing song, but as a Christian myself I would love it if they wouldn’t have used profanity mostly most I could blast this song during my youth group. I understand that some people use that language to describe their feelings and emotions because there is simply nothing else to describe how screwed up they feel, trust me I do. But again, personally I wish they wouldn’t have. Though I agree it is good they went with their creative heart, despite what I see the majority of their fans believe. Music is for the writer, as art is for the artist. Not the crowd, or gallery.

    • @halo4lyf33
      @halo4lyf33 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it may not lessen the depth, but it certainly brings attention to a lack of lyrical efficiency. i'm not saying that i think TCC has bad lyrical ability, but i certainly thought they could get over the hurdle of what to replace the F bomb with.
      now i have a song that i think carries a good message... but i have to skip it so my family doesn't have to hear such an unnecessary word.

      tanner tomasello Listen to their podcast explaining the album. Matt says he is a Christian but is very wary of oversimplifying the religion. This song is about finding he doesn't believe in a lot of the crap that can be found in Christian culture and how he was in a season where he didn't know what to do with it. But other songs in the album focus more on the need for some of the core broad strokes Christianity brings to the ideas of morality and positive living. He is spiritual, and definitely on the liberal side of Christianity, but a Christian nonetheless.

    Way to ruin an otherwise meaningful song with one word. The Classic Crime supporters will make excuses and defend it. but we all know that what this song will be known for is that word. Maybe they truly believe that it is ok to say but is this the cause you want to be known for? Sure there are people being sold into slavery and genocides going on in the world but you were able to look past such trivial things and to make the more important point to your fans that you should be able to say the F word.

      If slavery and genocide are so important to you, then why are you so unnecessarily butthurt because a band used one curse word in one song? There's more important things to be upset over (like slavery and genocide) then one word you don't like.
      Grow a spine.
