I think the same. But we cannot denny the OP1 is a few years old now (10 years?). And it's been a wonderful and inspiring instrument. Thanks for listening 😃

VERY enjoyable. I love the engaging, complex rhythm of this composition. Also, the synth patches you made are really pleasing. This is an inspiring use of the M8 with a midi controller. Well done.
This is great! How easy was it to map the keyboard to an instrument so that you can play the notes accurately? I couldn't find much documentation / info on how that works.
@@jlamores MIDI learn? I don't know what it is. Could you please point me to the section of the doc that talks about it or let me know where in the menu you activate that? How do you tell the M8: This controller should play notes of that instrument... Do you map it to one of the 8 channels? Apologies, I don't have a controller yet so can't experiment but would like to understand the settings before investing in it.
@@mad.operator On page 33 of the manual there is a section called MIDI Mapping View. To assign a MIDI CC to a parameter just place the cursor on the desired parameter, holding down the OPTION key and turn the MIDI knob (or fader) from your controller.
@@jlamores thank you! But how do you map the keyboard keys to an instrument so that they can play the right pitches? Do you select pitch parameter and press a keyboard key?
I guess it's "Inserting and recording MIDI notes from an external controller can be accomplished by selecting the correct “REC. NOTE CHAN” channel for your controller and highlighting a note column in the phrase view. While the song is playing, notes will be inserted based on the time they were played. Notes and instruments can be previewed when the cursor is outside the note column. "
Hi Jose, I wanted to ask you: -Can you record the notes you play on the keyboard into the M8? -Is it hard to assign the mute groups to the buttons on the Launchkey? (what about taking a snapshot to be assigned to a key?)
Hi! Yes to the first question. About the second question (mute groups and snapshots): I don’t really know. You can easily assign midi mutes and solos to individual tracks.
Can u help me setup this on my M8? i cant get the keys working. Only knobs. Im using midi out from launchkey and insert in midi in on M8. Whats your setting in MIDI settings on M8? do i need to click smth on Launchkey to switch to midi?
This is sweet! I've owned and loved the OP-1 for years now, and this little setup is really making want a M8. These might be dumb questions, but 1.) it looks like in this video, you're just playing some kind of sequence/chain, and then playing notes live on top of that via the keyboard? I haven't really been able to tell if you could use/play various synth engines while a sequence is playing at the same time. Like live jamming on top of a loop. And 2.) if you have a midi controller hooked up like this, does the M8 allow you to record notes into a sequence in any way while you play them? Or does everything always have to be punched in manually?
Thank you! The M8 has 8 tracks, and you can play any of them setting the MIDI channel. You can even play several (or allí) channels at the same time setting them to the same MIDI channel.
