Fun fact: From it's underwater base to the summit, Haleakala is taller than Mt. Everest. Also, Mauna Kea on the Big island is the tallest mountain in the world using the same base to summit measurement.
Had a good time sailing in the channel on Running Cloud in 20-25 knot winds.Running Cloud is a 60' Trimaran still sailing the world today, last time I checked she was dry docked on a Greek Isle during the Clown show. Same owner today and that was 42 yrs ago.
Nice one! thanks for putting these out been following the tracker- way to go bro! bummer we never hooked up in long beach but glad we did over at the isthmus - fair winds man-till next time-SvSkybird
"Snotty", "Gnarly"? That was the calmest Alenuihaha crossing I have ever seen and I have crossed it dozens of times. Also there is no right or wrong way to cross. The thing to remember is that the winds 'fan out' after the narrows. Instead of fighting upwind its better to bear away to a beam sail and sail a u shaped course across. As you progress the winds will lift you and you have a comfortable sail all the way down to Kailua. Have fun and Aloha, welcome to the Big Island. Also its best not to cross if the forecast is over twenty knots, huge seas and gusts up to forty!
Snotty crossing indeed but worth it it's stunning! Myself & my Son picked up a 24ft sail boat we are techin it up, and training then we bounce. You helped us more than you know thanks man ;) luv & peas.
Great video!! Triteia handled the wind and swell like it was just another day at the office. You are one fine sailor of course. Loved the underwater video of volcanic rock bottom that I've never seen and the school of orange fish were neat. Thanks so much!
Aloha! Nice! Looks like a calm day in the channel. ;-) Fish with tunaboat here and freedive and windsurf Hawi-side. Had 20-25f swell here and once leewards it turns into soft smooth water. Nishimura is nice, first anchorage is the old coast guard station. Drop anchor on the sand 300 f out. The pier is broken. This is tigershark territory. Bring spear. The ledge is 250m out. To far out and you catch Tahiti express current.
The main problem with sailing from Maui to the BI is that people go too far west and get becalmed. I once rescued a sailboat the was several weeks out of Tahiti and sailed thought the channel to get to Kona and became becalmed. I watched them tack back and forth for two days trying to reach the Big Island before loading my boat with fuel, water, food and a tow rope to go get them. They had been out of fuel, food and water for several days (they ate fish). I towed them to the harbor.
Kimbley always likes a giggle😁 but at the same time its great to see her just switch on marine ecologist mode😎. There didnt seem much weed coral or soft coral .. is this due to the age of the rocks or the nature of the water? Thanks again for taking along.😎... 🧙♂️
great video. I can feel the wind in my hair. How do you like the operation and utility of the flip-up solar panels? I have a rack over my bimini, but I'd like to be a convertible sometimes. Thank you :)
@@SailorJames amazing how durable yet sensitive marine engines are. James - love that you are livin life. Endless boat work + passion = paradise! Circle earth 🌎

No soft coral in Hawaii, not much weed either, too remote I was told.
Love your videos! Always wanted to visit Hawaii Islands. /Jealous Swede 🇸🇪

Can imagine HAWAIIANS use to paddling across these Islands and battle wow !!!
Hey Bro couldnt help but notice that your main sheet is rubbing on the solar panel .Fair winds Mate

I would say all natural rock walls would certainly qualify as ancient. Unless it’s volcanic I suppose
None of my business but Kimberly is cute! ⛵
Mr. Engine Fails………😩🤯😳
Found the air leak in the system later that day
