    Seeing gaps under the concrete after just a week is enough warning for you. Get that retaining wall in as priority one, then backfill with 3/4” sand/mixed and tamp ever 4-6” with a gas tamper. Don’t cheat on this!

    it has to be an "L" type of block to contain the slope. That way first you press some soil on top of the horizontal part of the "L", in short increments (a foot or so) until you reach the desired level of the ground. That way you will have a nice protection of the slope.

      Here in the southwest at least the make tire bales out of old tires. They weight roughly a tone each and commonly used to make retaining walls here. They will stucco over them so they don't look so ugly.

Build a loft also to have as a chill spot. That’s where the deck would be. Below that should be dirt when walking out the sliding door. Put the hot tub there in the shade and have some Adirondack chairs on the loft deck! PS I like the idea of one big tire on the back of the ford dually. Cheers from NYS!

    You guys should have listened about filling in behind the man barn its going to erode until the concrete pad starts cracking you need at least 2 feet of ground around your building and then either slop the dirt better than 2 to 1 or install a retaining wall you can buy the actual metal form from grainger to make your own stackable concrete blocks its a reusable metal form and it's really easy to use and the good thing is you can make as many stackable blocks that interlock together install your Deadman tie ins some of that plastic Matt material ever 2 to 3 courses and your drains and you would be able to drive a tractor trailer around that man barn stay with it and get it done semper fi 😉

    @ccnixon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to install big gutters and downspouts, The downspouts need to be directed going down the hill and releasing the water at the bottom. You can also get real heavy landscaping plastic and cover the hill with the plastic and then put heavy gravel all over the plastic. This can help channel the water away from the barn. Nevertheless, you need to put together an irrigation plan now! It doesn't take long for the rain to compromise that hill, especially since it's barely larger than the building itself.

  • @centrice12
    @centrice12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    Erosion mitigation is not an option, especially with as much precipitation as you receive. I think you are also probably going to have issues under the slab as you didn't properly compact the fill. My prediction is a lot of settling unless you immediately address the issues on the rear and sides of the structure. I recommend a terraced retaining wall along the sides and back with drainage installed to prevent any erosion that may cause voids to develop under the slab.

    Techo Bloc actually has excellent specs for retaining walls. If I were you, I would pay attention to them and implement what you can (which is a bit late considering where you are with the project) - but, you can always build out further (you wanted a deck, right?).
    Also, you do know that you need to let that wood age before use, right? You can't just cut a plank and slap it up (as you said). It has to be pretty dry first or you will get massive shrinkage!

    Guess some "gotta fix our mistake" content was needed. Going to be a pain putting up that retaining wall with the building in place. Putting the blocks up won't be difficult, but filling in the dirt will be. Going to have to make it an L shape and far enough from the building so they can get the skidsteer around to the back. Build wall, start filling from side to pad level and work your way around.

  • @JohnDoe-vx4ni
    @JohnDoe-vx4ni 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, please build that retaining wall . Most of all take the time compact the ground ! Make sure you have proper drainage for the ground. Also that roof can be used to rain harvest into a few 800 gl. tanks. I have no idea why you chose to put your water tanks inside the house structure. Where I come from space is premium, even the basement. Good luck guys ! So glad you got the portable saw mill. Remember , you want it on level ground. You probably want it to have a roof coverage like a car port. to protect it from the rain and snow. where ever you put it plan for a covered storage for your milled lumber. even if it's only 3 covered walls. Lumber needs to be able to dry out slowly and protected from rain and snow. Can hardly wait to see you guys mill some lumber ! maybe you use the lumber to build a tree house 😄. I'm sure you can get into a ton projects for the new house with the lumber you mill from your own trees !👍

Before footing is completely setup, install anchors and set Jersey barriers as containment wall. Back fill with more dirt and compact. It won't be cheap but it will hold up forever. Did this for a customer years 35 years ago and it's still holding. Good luck boys.

      Another problem is shrinkage, clay shrinks when it dries out the building stops it getting wet so it will dry out and the trees suck up all the water so it will dry it out as well, the clay could literally shrink by several inches leaving a void under the concrete, which of course will then crack and if they put anything heavy in there could even give way.
