Thank you for this! I've taken a long break from Rimworld but am coming back for Anomaly and have completely forgotten how to play. This was a great refresher and showed me some stuff I completely forgot about.
Another extra tip have someone who is pretty good with medical, helps you out a lot, intro to progress for defense is to reach the point that everybody has a gun, they’re not gonna be good at shooting at first or not gonna be good at it as they use it the more they use it the better they get, helps out a lot. and don’t forget the defenses you will need it, and if you need workers, don’t be scared to use slaves, that’s what I learn while playing a lot
You can actually queue orders by holding shift while clicking. You can queue a ton at once, they will do them once they're done whatever they're doing now, like sleeping. Additionally, if there's multiple of the same kind of task to do nearby, shift-clicking will have them do it all at once so you don't have to click them all individually. For example, if tell them to clean a stain on the ground, they'll also clean any other stuff near it, or if you shift-click a field of crops that's ready to harvest, they'll harvest all the crops within a few squares. (Unfortunately it doesn't work for sowing them. I still sow each plant individually... but at least I can queue a bunch at once.)
Yes, but I prefer not queuing tasks in order to keep track of what you have people doing. That’s particularly helpful in the early game and especially true for beginners.
Nice start with that nice stone room almost ready for you! You left some free meat lying in the field where you talked to your visitors, plus the mad hare corpse. I find it useful to store (non-human) corpses in your fridge/freezer until someone has time to butcher them, particularly the larger ones that take up less space as corpses than when butchered. And I AWAYS buy as many component parts as I can from traders. I never seem to have enough.
New to this game and now hours later my 1st colony is going downhill... Hoping to pick up new tricks here before restarting new colony to survive better... 😅
I think part of the fun is the losing and starting over with more understanding, I've lost 3 colonies and I have one that I've had running for months that i fight tooth and nail to keep going. I think you get attached to some colonies and colonists more than others
Loved this Tutorial, Thanks :> (For New Players trying out Rimworld) if you see those Mods out there, you'll likely say oh that's easy simple, BUT. you need the 4 DLC mods in order for them to work, i learned the hard way after that i just couldnt load anything of the Good mods in it, you Need those DLC in order for them to work. Example, Hugslib and Harmony are good mods to work with those Mods to function Properly.
While I learnt lots from your guide, it would really help the viewer if the content focused more on explaining how the game works and less on it being a playthrough. For example the section on selecting people from the list before the game starts, it would have been much more helpful to explain how this section works rather then clicking on radomise until you got the skill set you want. Just saying as a beginner what we want to know if how things work rather then watch someone do a playthrough which pretty much 85% of tutorial videos. Just some feedback to help improve future vids.... That said, you do explain things well and don't have game music blaring in the background which is 100% appreciated... Keep up the good work
I bought this game because of videos like this..... Now after playing for 13 hours straight and blowing off work that I will have to do tomorrow this is a great game. Frustrating, but I'm up to a team of 5 with only one autosave reload.
35:00 "Ah, yes. Because we can't queue up orders, they can only do one thing at a time." That is wrong. You can queue up orders by holding down the "SHIFT" key, while giving the order. You can queue up to 10 orders per colonist. That is base game, no DLC or mod required.
True, in my free time I typically play on the Steam Deck, so I tend to forget some of the PC controls. That said, I still don't like queuing up orders and prefer to take things one order at a time when I'm manually forcing them to prioritize a given task. I REALLY prefer to let them choose tasks on their owns as much as possible.
dude thank you so much, I tried the game before and I was so confused to understand anything but now after watching the whole video I think I can finally play the game but there's one thing I didn't get it, in 32:40 you didn't link the power all the way to the cooler, so how did the cooler get the power?
power conduits will power anything within a certain range, even if they arent connected. Additionally, Generators, such as windmills or fuel powered generators, are entirely full of conduits from the moment they are placed down, which meas you can just build a generator near your devices and not even waste time building conduits, if you wanted.
That's exactly right. Think of it as the power conduits are the larger cables and then individual items have their own cords to plug into the conduit. Like in real life you have outlets/receptacles to plug things into.
I would love to see one of these beginner tutorials with all DLCs. Maybe a bit quicker and take this vanilla tutorial as a basis and just describe what maybe to do differently and how to deal with the added mechanics.
First playthrough, I was lucky enough to get a horse as my random starter pet. But had no idea yet of pens, caravans, and its usefulness. Such a nice roll but was clueless. Just ignored and it wandered off (or maybe got killed by a predator, don't remember). Still irks me a little now, how I wasted that horse. Have had nothing but cats and little yappy dogs ever since, lol.

My problem is after few days idk what to do, after i have tons of food now what do i do? I already make huge bedrooms, some production area, some growing area for foods and woods, now what?
Yeah I thought the same but it's actually pretty easy, got the game yesterday and I'm enjoying it so far. Of course the meds can probably make this game have a lot of sci Fi add-ons
There is so much to do and think about and plan for i love the micromanaging if i really want too it's way better then prison architect in so many ways
Yes you can, all dlcs are separated and add specific content, although if you are not very familiar with the game id recommend to sink a few hours on vanilla game before moving with dlcs, the game already has a big learning curve and the dlc will increase it.
My problem is that I always put my pawns to do too many jobs in queue and miss the point of setting proper sleeping quarters first. :D Maybe after this video I might do better.
I actually don't use queues at all in this game. I prefer to set the priorities and then just override what they are doing every so often when something is more pressing than their priority levels.
@@Czardus After this video I started a new game. In that game I focused to get one thing or set of objects (like a building) done at a time. And it (shocked Pikachu face) worked! :D I still set orders (queue) but now with a very localized manner. I also prioritize important jobs on top of this. Now in my game things actually are getting done.
i need tutorial for controlls. I can’t figure out how to move out dead body from my house. my pawn has mental breakdown of common routine so i just change his schedule to “anything” and placed a freshly build chess board for him… he did not understand my move and oh well.. everyone died
You should create a dumping zone and make sure you have it set to allow human corpses. Or you can create a grave and then a hauler will bury the corpse. Hope that helps!

Newbie hint. Cassandra is actually one of the harder storytellers. Randy might be random, but he is biased towards smaller events. Cassandra will throw major events much more often.
I haven't experienced that. Cassandra has worked just fine for me and I'd rather not recommend that beginners go with someone who could theoretically send a major event to them immediately. That could potentially turn a beginner off from the game.
@@Czardus Well fact is that Cassandra is the hardest storyteller in the game (outside of mods). With Cassandra you will have a major event every 8,5 days on average. This is a hint that informs people that Cassandra Classic IS the hardest storyteller. Randy is not harder than Cassandra due to his randomness.
