I just did this install on a 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback.
    1. Instead of wiring the power off of the battery, I tapped an unused fuse from the inside fuse panel. This way, the power wire can be routed inside the car under the plastic trim. No need to lift the vehicle or unbolt big parts.
    2. Instead of drilling into the sheet metal for the ground, I used one of the existing bolts in the back corner of the car.

What is that plug under the left brake light. Is it a plug for trailer plug and play.

    This is a great video.
I will say though, You also gotta have a way to lift the car to run a power wire from the engine to the back.... So you'd have to spend at least $100 on a car jack if you don't have one. On top of buying everything else. Might just be cheaper to buy the truck if you're doing like an in city move...

No need to lift the car. Instead of tapping off the battery, tap the power from the inside fuse panel. It's located under the driver side kick panel. Run the power wire under the driver side trim.

I can confirm that yes, this wiring harness works for a hatchback model too. The only difference I came across was the interior panel covering the tail lights was different; For me, it was easier to just remove the panel covering the harness for easier access. Good luck with your install!

Problem is you get the luck of the draw with installers, some will actually put back all the bolts they remove.
