  • For over 20 years Fredrik Härén and his family have lived off-grid on a remote Swedish island during the summer. Solar energy is used for everything: from cooking and lighting to making drinking water from the sea.
    On a second solar-powered island Fredrik invites people from all over the world to stay, free of charge; providing time to reconnect with their creativity.
    Both systems work so well that Fredrik and his family have made a bold decision - they're going to live on their 'home island' all year round!
    How will it work out, 60 degrees North?

    I was the second guest to stay on Ideas Island all of those years ago. I was homeless at the time. My time there changed my life in astronomical ways. The power of water, nature and being alone to explore.

    8:56 it's nice to see Jono on the YT screen, have not seen you for ages...
    Looking at setting up a battery storage system, is the old "Journey with Jono" discount codes still working ?
    or any new "Jono with Victron" codes for your old followers ?
    hope you're well

      Thank you! I don’t think the codes are valid any more.

      @@VictronEnergyBV Hi Jono... me again. As I am looking at setting up a pair of Victron Energy MultiPlus II 48V 5000/70-50 Inverter Chargers... I thought I would start a new channel to document it
      just posted my first video today. My voiceovers are not quite as good as yours :)

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:00 🏝️ Ideas Island in Sweden offers a free retreat for creative minds to disconnect from the daily grind, reconnect with nature, and work on creative projects.
    03:02 ☀️ Fredrik Haren made Ideas Island self-sufficient with solar panels, providing visitors with essential amenities while disconnecting from the mainland.
    05:33 💡 Victron Energy's off-grid system replaced an unreliable setup, allowing them to run all appliances on the island efficiently and remotely monitor it via VRM.
    07:08 ⚡ They've expanded their electrical appliances, including a dishwasher and air fryer, thanks to their robust off-grid power system.
    09:05 ❄️ The family plans to live on the island year-round, presenting a new challenge for maintaining self-sufficiency in power throughout the harsh Swedish winters.

    I am on a limited budget and yet I know I wanted Victron components.
    I also have BBBatteries. The Best

    Interesting to see if they fix the winter with just solar cells in Sweden, hope for a video follow-up in that case!

    I have a sailboat and love the independence of solar. I’m retired, but want to be challenged and this video helps reinforce my dreams of having a land base that can off grid. In my perfect world it would be possible in a winter climate like Canada.

    Great video, I think they will start having difficulty around late October to early November, at that latitude (available sunlight, for decent solar charging), ending February/March.
    I am at 55.75°N, some local cell phone towers have solar panels, LOTS of LARGE solar panels.
    Best wishes Jono, from Northern Canada.

      @troy3456789 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if enough panels are charging at 5%, eventually there will be enough energy.

      @@carlthor91 Yes, I was sort of saying that if you have a high enough number of high efficiency solar panels, and high quality, low resistance conductors, even if each panel is only converting a small amount of sunlight to electricity; they can produce enough current to handle any theoretical load.

      A backup generator on the multiplus would be a good idea.

    I'll come and visit you and sort out/ neaten up your electrical installation for you... for free ofc. :) Victron is one of the best in the solar industry

  • @Bytelovin
    @Bytelovin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can do it. It just comes down to how much money you are willing to spend. You would need more solar panels and angle them upright for the most amount charging. It's good that they are on an island so shading is not an issue to take advantage of the little solar they have during November to January-March. Generator would be a must for the worst days and for running appliances and a fireplace with plenty of firewood storage.

    Is the next stage wave & tidal-flow generation?
    I expect wind power would be too intrusive in such a small area?

    • @VictronEnergyBV

    Can the various buildings on each island & indeed both islands be linked together in a local grid using Victron equipment?

    • @VictronEnergyBV
      @VictronEnergyBV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Swan Island is not connected to the grid at all and never has been. Ideas Island was connected but Fredrik decided to disconnect it. The two islands are too far away from each other to connect.

      @VictronEnergyBV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no connection to the grid at all. So it’s by generator
