This is the first time I’ve heard hand placement explained like this and I think it just solved my alignment issue. This might be the BEST coach tips channel!!
Good ass video. I remember coaches as teaching guys so many habits that actually made guys shots worse or at least more rigid. I realized after I stopped playing competitive ball that all the best shooters had small “form flaws” but it was what worked for them so they stuck with it. Wish I spent more time practicing what worked for me and less time trying to “fix my form”. Good tips bro.
All these great shooters turn their shooting side shoulder towards the target. A flared elbow (chicken wing) is not desired, but I think an easier cue would be to have the elbow, wrist, hand, and shoulder point towards the target at finish. Fixating on external vs internal rotation of the humerus misses the most important factor of finishing in line.
I’m trying this without the ball it fell great already and when I get the ball it’s good to hold the side of the ball instead of placing hands on the center when you go up to shoot.
The problem with this is trying to do it exactly the same every time. I get what you’re saying. It does help create a fluid release, but now you have another variable (the twist of the wrist). I have tried using this in my shot and while I liked it, I never really knew where the perfect spot for that U was, so I was constantly changing it every shot I missed creating an even more inconsistent shot.
For years I have been shooting basketballs with a really bad habit. And im doing my best to adjust to this angle, but im fighting against muscle memory so it's like relearning how to shoot a basketball, but ive got to undo all the bad habits as well.
very great post bro!i was trying to shoot like that for like 3 years and thought its impossible for me to become shooter but then i studied currys shot and it worked for me
First time I've ever heard anyone mention rotation of the hand. Will have to try this out next time. Will def feel more natural than a fully squared hand w a tucked elbow.
I always knew I was onto something with this. I’m 15 rn but I’ve been doing this ever since I was little cuz I’d study Stephen curry, Kyrie Irving, Michael Jordan, Trae Young, and Kyle Korvers shots the most and I realized the thing abt that U shape you were talking abt and I’ve been doing that ever since.
For me how i learn good techniques is... Practice, practice, practice! I've always been a "feel good type of player" but on the real my coach taught me a good way to keep that "chicken wing" tucked by actually keeping my shooting tight to my body. When i rise to shoot on any shot i have to have my elbow tucked and have rub slightly on my rib/hip area. It always forces me to keep my elbow tucked and align with the rim. It's sooo embedded in my brain that if I don't feel it i know im going to miss. Also hold the follow through i a must, as he would say after you shoot your follow through should look like a swan in the water, and your wrist should look like you digging in the cookie jar. Hopefully this helps folks with their shooting woes.
@@theboss4ever99Bron shooting ability is not what makes him good..: his all around game, iq, etc is… and he’s a tank so he can get to the cup… he’s an improved shooter but to pretend like he’s strong in that area. I wouldn’t do that… can he shoot yes. But to say he’s good at shooting I wouldn’t go that far.., I’d say he’s decent, he’s not a bad shooter … but “consistent” ? … that’s a force if you ask me…

Definitely puts less tension on the wrist for a more fluid shot
This just helped me shoot better
Seems that would be a difficult adjustment

shooting coaches are flawed just cuz they give tips that arent gonna be universal
I gotta remember my shooting eye is my left lol and I'll be 👍🏼🏀🧡
Thx for the tips✨
Great tip bro! Glad to see people actually teaching basketball fundamentals instead of teaching kids how to travel.

Wow thanks I’ve never seen anyone teach that way
Actually a good point/idea
So useful

it’s not mostly technique but muscle memory. Same with shooting pool.
Every player’s technique is different.
Facts, i feel like often when it comes to the nba they forget people are different
Good tip
Thanks coach to remind me elbow to the hands correcting to shooting a ball force
