- This footage was taken on a Sunday afternoon in September during a heavy storm. Unfortunately, due to the very little light, the video is of very low quality, and sometimes the images appear blurry. Although the duration of the film is long, many sculptures are missing, it was already late and the cemetery was closing, I think I was the only visitor. Like other monumental cemeteries, all the sculptures are dirty and covered in a thick layer of dust, a real shame. However in this cemetery a tomb has been restored and the change is truly amazing:

Description:
The monumental cemetery of Staglieno is the largest burial place in Genoa and is one of the most important monumental cemeteries in Europe.
Illustrious sons of the Ligurian capital and other famous personalities are buried there, including one of the fathers of the Italian homeland, Giuseppe Mazzini, the composer of the music of the Italian anthem Michele Novaro, numerous Garibaldians including Antonio Burlando and others who were part of the expedition of the Thousand (a field is dedicated to them), Constance Lloyd (wife of Oscar Wilde), Nino Bixio and Stefano Canzio. Due to the vastness of its imposing funerary monuments it is considered a real open-air museum. The numerous funerary statues and chapels - works mainly by Genoese sculptors - albeit built in different styles, give the whole complex an important value in terms of architecture and funerary sculpture.
The design of the Genoese cemetery dates back to 1835 still in the wake of the climate created by the Napoleonic edict of Saint-Cloud which came into force on 12 June 1804, with which burials in churches and inhabited centers were prohibited. Work began in 1844 and the structure was opened to the public on January 2, 1851 (four people were buried on the first day).
At the center of the burial site - where once there was simply a large lawn - now stands the statue of the Faith, nine meters high, the work of the sculptor Santo Varni. Facing the statue of Faith, at the top of an imposing staircase, stands the Pantheon (copy of the Pantheon in Rome) with its beautiful pronaos of Doric style columns, flanked by two marble statues representing the biblical prophets Job and Jeremiah.
The main Genoese cemetery has undergone a decline over time also due to its extension, while maintaining its charm unchanged. The tombs and sculptures that in Twain's eyes appeared new and snowy are today made gray by dust, smog and the progress of shrubs. Although left abandoned, they remain equally graceful and perfect in structure, remaining one of the best examples of the funerary art with which the Genoese bourgeoisie of the nineteenth century flaunted their opulence.

I am nearly finished travelling through this enormous Monumental Cemetery and find the difficulties you had, hardly noticeable. Whatever the trying conditions that you encountered, Massimo, you simply do a first rate job . Yes, maintenance of all these numerous treasures is a gigantic job, but that's Italy's job. You are always doing your best, to record and preserve faithfully, for posterity. And I congratulate you wholeheartedly for that.
Thanks. But it's a pity they are not mantained properly. You can clearly see 150 years of dust. In the video's description there's a link to the tomb which has been cleaned and you can see the difference.

Grazie. Purtroppo era tardi e non ho avuto tempo di filmare tutto. In più diluviava e girando mi sono accorto che avevano chiuso il portone principale da dove ero entrato ed ho perso ulteriore tempo per vedere se c'era un'altra uscita aperta. Per fortuna si. Purtroppo sotto i portici era davvero buio.
