The bullcrap of MTG UB is really the perfect storm for an up and coming Fantasy TCG with a strong setting. Many Magic players like myself really loved the flavor of the card game, and with Universed beyond being shoved down our throats constantly, it's just the right time to leave behind a game that we were once very fond of. Magic is turning into the new Weiß Schwarz, and they're likely going to be just fine with the massive amounts of fanbases, they're just going to do it without the core fans that helped them get to this point. I'm more than happy to hop onto a new TCG with strong mechanics and an even stronger setting, reminiscent of classic magic sets.
Been playing FaB for almost 2 and a half years. Started a community at my LGS with people telling me it would never work out and no one will play it. Now we have 16-24 people coming to armories and even more amazingly people meeting up on random days just to get some games in! (And on prerelease /rvent days we have so many that we have to start telling people we CAPPED!) 🎉something else to mention in the last 4 weeks we get 1 or 2 new people on average trying the game and enjoying it thoroughly. In regards to design space I think the game has become powered down but not simpler. It’s great and the gameplay is deep. I don’t regret going all in on fab. It’s the singular best TCG on the market especially one with no recognizable IP
FaB is great! It reignited my passion for TCGs when I was previously disillusioned. It has a fresh approach to it and I think it has an exciting future.
James White did say their original writers had to quite due to personal issues, hence the lack of lore for so long. They hired new writers not too long ago, and things are already starting to improve.
I'll be honest with you. I love the Lord in theory the Old Lore, but the new Lord is so much better written. I would read the stories to my daughter and the old stories had grammar mistakes and really poor descriptions. The new lore with the new writers is so much better and feels much more professional. I love it
With the way magic is going lately, a lot of players there are moving to FaB. Like A LOT. It probably also helped that the biggest magic channel on youtube did some great videos on it and almost got me into it. I just can't afford to get into any new TCGs right now.
I'm definitely going to seek out locations in my state that play it. I really want to take the advice you gave and build an actual Valda deck (That, or just buy the armory Dash deck). It reminds me a lot of an old game I played called UFS, so I think it will be fun to give a few games a shot.
i mean, power creep and complexity creep are imminent. They will exist in any tcg as they are the selling point of them. Furthermore, trying to artificially slow it down can lead to major losses
Power creeping down a game is not a bad thing at all, FAB did it and did it right and is reaping the success of it's choice, the game is thriving and growing in playbase day by day... You (has a company) CAN and SHOULD learn with the mistakes your competitors did before you, reapeating then is just dumb... LSS is handling their game pretty well
I don’t play FAB but I feel if not a deeper story at least a better presentation of characters’ backgrounds, because you might choose a hero for aesthetic ( female knights in full armor swinging swords like Dorothea), gimmicks ( Bravo’s attacks that require 2 cards to be parried) or you can also choose because the story/background of the hero, which sometimes will match the aesthetic (I guess Dorothea is a noble honorable knight and all of that so people like both of her) but sometimes someone might just like a hero because what they represent/their story
I did try FAB and absolutely hated the game engine. Pitch cost and using hand for stopping damage was just too taxing on the hand for attacking as well. Glad it works for other folks though. The art and the foils on it are amazing and it certainly grew out of its "investors only" stage with Rudy.
Love flesh and blood. It hooked me back in 2019 and I gave up mtg shortly after... Love the game mechanics and card art.

Thanks for the kind words about the game man! More people need to give it a try for sure!

Here's hoping it's a long future, too!
flesh and blood brings everything that I love when MTG was good, pre commander era, 1v1 matches and good community support
fab is gameplay peak
Haven't watched yet but HELL YEAH FLESH AND BLOOD!

Great chat, thanks for talking about flesh and blood
no more push-ups for Doodle

I’ve been really digging union arena lately :)
