This song will always reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents separated: my younger brother and I would go and stay with my dad at his townhouse in Marsfield and we'd stay up and watch Prisoner until we were told to go to bed. I guess it was a time in our lives where everything seemed surreal - a time where we weren't ready to face the reality of what was happening in our lives. For some reason, hearing this song always gave me comfort and it's remained a favourite throughout the years.
It looks like this is when we got wise to people miming to recordings and complained to “points of view”, so the BBC top of the pops had to perform live.
Just heard some of it on last ever episode of Wentworth was so good to include it in what made the show but mostly good memories like everyone else young school days stating up late ta watch it or to record it on good old vhs absolutely awesome
The UK single from 1989 and this Top of the Pops performance were a different version to the actual version which played over the end credits of the show, being much slower and with extra piano.
67psych I second every word of your comment! I used to go to school baggy eyed! Lizzie and the freak were my favourite 2 characters, it's was also good watching other Ozzie soaps and seeing half the cast of prisoner in them. Hey do you remember stan the gardener from prisoner? So many memories!
I love this song , it reminds me of when me and my girlfriend had a mis communication about going to the pub one night to meet her friend . Anyway , long story short this song brought us back together . We still talk about it to this day , obviously she was with ok her ordeal having to spend the night at her friends house she was very lucky to survive and thank god she reasoned with me and as I never made it to meet her . I will never let her down again even though it wasn’t intentional . I would literally crawl on my hands and knees across a street to put drawing pins in her Pooh . That’s how much I love her still
I love this song and Prisoner cell block H, it was sad when the programme finished. Come on everyone lets wave lit candles from side to side and think of all the guests that Jeremy Kyle have had on his show who have been in prison.
@stevesfav I bought it. Type in On the Inside and Lynne Hamilton. A group called Studio Group rerecorded it. I believe it says On The Inside Sound A Like as made famount by Lynne Hamilton.
Really Nostalgic Tune that makes me Remember Watching Prisoner Cell Block H in The UK!,This Aussie Gem was Brilliant!, A few Years later I watched Wentworth thinking I would not like it as it would not reflect well on the original!, I actually like Wentworth more than Prisoner!, It is Fantastic and is so different & more hard hitting & has it's own Charms!.
Love the way they tell us nothing about the lady singing.Steve Wright takes the piss at the end as well fucking great.Throw in insulting Angry Anderson and I can see why Australian people think we are horrible. Its a nice song and totp2 has given more background to far lesser songs. If they have done no research on the girl singing then dont show it.
I agree ! It s a beautiful song I was 19 when this was shown and I remember thinking this is what it just feel like to lose someone she has a beautiful voice and it’s a very heartfelt song there was no need for the piss take what a prick
ha ha ha ha ha,fuckin hilarious,,i used 2 shuffle one out to the old govenor or the blonde english chick,,but late night foreign films on ch4 were always worth a shot!
Last night I dreamed I was a gorilla eating chocolate cakes and cream; but that was in the jungle now I'm sitting by a stream. In the jungle the Martians run and they jump like little frog-oooohoogs and the gorillas sing christmas songs whilst sitting on a log wawawawawawawa😉😉😉😉

Such patronising comments from TOTP2 ... a beautifully poetic song well sung by a fabulous vocalist.
Yes agree unnecessarily lewd comments. Beautifully sung by Lynne Hamilton
Steve Wright is such a prick, that's why he's with the BBC.

That tw at Steve Wright is making those inane comments.

sad now because so many of the cast of Prisoner are no longer with us ...and I will never forget how Prisoner took the whole world by storm ..
Lynne runs a church on the Gold Coast now and is married to one of my friends.
do you keep in contact
with Lynne Hamilton??
did she keep her name Hamilton after marriage?
is she still married to your friend or did they divorce?
@@jasonlee7816 so many questions yet none have been answered, guess it will just have to remain a mystery. Stay safe!

Can u tell her from me, Timeless Classic!!! X
@boob72 Yeah the UK is ten years behind Australia.
In the original TOTP broadcast, Simon Mayo incorrectly credits this to Lynn Anderson. I see no blankets.
I bet that was egg on his face.
Egg Mayo 😄
@Tarrant1976 they didn't show prisoner in britain until 1989.
Earlier than that dependent on where you lived in the UK...
We do not telling its the prisoner cell block h theme we are not muppets
Great tune nice chick, where is she
Oz
Nice dancing from the audience...

Ooops wobbly camera work at 1:50 ... and they say Prisoner was shoddy?
ha ha ha ha ha,fuckin hilarious,,i used 2 shuffle one out to the old govenor or the blonde english chick,,but late night foreign films on ch4 were always worth a shot!
Is somebody gonna tell Bea she can get off that Press now?
This could have been written by Bob Dylan. I can imagine him performing this.
This song is suppose to be off Top of Pops.. Why has it been edited to almost 30secs Less ??
Coz it's off TOPT2, the much later nostalgia version showing a variety of past performances.
boonza
@muscleZ1979 I think that dude is a chick. Though with Prisoner, it was always hard to tell....
LOL
Steve Wright was always making sarcastic comments over the songs.
The theme tune is better
yh ch 4 filth ruled.
