I have used decorative stitches for binding my quilts for a couple years. I can no longer hand stitch because of both osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. Bindings were always my favorite part of quilting because the binding done is the quilt is done.
An edge stitch foot is a must for perfect finishing of binding. (Bernina's walking foot has and edge-stitch/stitch in ditch foot). I believe that attaching to the back and bringing to the front is best practice for machine binding.
I just have to say, I too bring binding back to front, and there are now 3 people in the world that know this! Why sew blindly when b2f works so well? Makes me crazy even my local quilting pals are not so sure it’s okay ! Arrrrgh! (Thanks, I feel better now😊)

I sew mostly baby quilts that will get washed a lot. Attach the binding to the back and sewn down on the front. At first, I wasn’t thrilled about seeing the stitches on the back, so I try to match the color of the back fabric . Works for me!
Thanks for the great demonstration! This is a good reminder that many of our machines have decorative stitches, and binding is a great place for them. :)
When I use the clips when binding I prefer to face the color side of the clip to the back. Then the clear side is flat and holds the binding flattened. 😊
Great tip for how to use decorative stitches. Saved for future reference. Oh my goodness, you have to tell us how to make that jacket. The blanket is wonderful too. By the way, you know I’m a Brother girl, but really enjoying the Kaffe 475!
Thank you for demonstrating the edge pressure foot. I have a Bernina 820. Can you add more decorative stitches to the machine? Seems like different machines have different stitches and wondered if there is a way to add other decorative stitches to the machine.
I would love that book of stitches even though I don't have a Bernina (I have Janome and Brother machines). Back when I had Home Ec circa 1968 the knee thing was the 'foot pedal'. I have them for my machine, but the minute I sit down to sew, I use my foot on the foot pedal and then my knee is pushing the knee thingy and that is not good. All those years ago and my knee still wants to be boss!LOL!
I really wish I hadn’t seen this. Now I want to trade in my 6 month old 475 for this one😂😂. I have a Tula 770, which I’ll never trade in, but not gonna lie, the Kaffe 770 would look FABULOUS in my purple sewing room.
That was the point, to get us to buy the machine. We were not able to see the decorative stitches she put on the binding, and in much of the video her hands were in the way and we couldn’t see what she was doing.
Another great demonstration Linda. I always pick up something to improve my meager sewing skills. I love your jacket today. Did you make it? If so, how did you incorporate the fabric into the Jean jacket. Thanks again!
I’d like the idea of a design in the binding- but I didn’t see ANYTHING!! Most of the time her hand was covering everything and when I zoomed in, I saw absolutely no stitches. A waste of time if that’s what you want to see.
I bought the B474 Kaffe Version last month. I’m really enjoying it. It’s smooth and has great features that make my creative life more fun.
Love to see more TH-cam sewers using Bernina sewing machines. They are the best on the market today.
Naaaa
Nice video- love the idea of a decorative stitch along the binding. I wish I could have seen the finished stitching !
I will take some pictures and include them in one of the videos/ thanks for your comments Roberts
would be very interested to see the back of the binding, and also more about your reasoning for your choice of a 2” binding.

Love the wall quilt
Wish we could have seen more of the actual stitching as mentioned in the video title. Thank you for the video
My gracious I’d be upsetting my coffee all over my quilt moving my hands around like that! Thank you for this video.
Glad it helped Lois

I would have liked to see you go around a corner to see how the design worked. I like using decorative stitches on the binding.
This was nothing more than an add for this sewing machine and her quilt shop.
And that’s a problem because? I thought she shared some good tips.
Didn’t even show the stitching up close to see her example.
Twelve minutes that i’ll never get back.
Thanks Linda - she is so sweet
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. Lovely quilt!
Love your jacket!

Would you share your jacket pattern. So lovely!
Super great video! TYSM
Thank you! I haven’t bound my quilts like this before but I will now. 😊
congratulations!

LOve your jacket Linda.

Love your demos, thank you
Thanks Linda
That fabric is so cute. What is it called?

we can make it happen :)

Disappointed because I wanted to know more about the process to use my decorative stitches on my janome memory craft 6600
Linda, what are the embroidery designs used on the quilt?
Beautiful machine-I would buy it if I didn’t own 8 machines that I use!

Look at her short - How to master, decorative stitches and you can see the stitching being done :)

Kaffe folder. 880. I got cheated. Bummer
You can do this with any machine.
I wanted to see what the decorative stitched looked like when she was done 😢
All I seen was a lot of advertising! Not one single stitch as titled for this video.
Disappointed. Did not see any decorative stitches done at all.
waiting for coffee to spill on quilt........
Too much advertising in the video. I don't want to buy anything just see the procedure of stitching.
I wish you would have tried to keep your hand out of the way you couldn’t see it while it was sewing. More sewing and less selling your sewing foot.
