Aqua Research made these for MSR, their H2gO is the next generation of these It's got a solar panel, USB rechargeable, better UI, along in built in storage for salt and includes a brine bottle to store your salt and water solution. Cana provisions makes upgraded kit with much more durable instructions.
Oh, also there are two versions that produce different active chlorine concentrations. H2gO Prime (5 mg/L) and H2gO Global (2.5mg/L) Both are priced the same. I'm guessing Prime is better if the water is known to be highly contaminated at the trade off of more chlorine flavor in the water produced (which will dissipate somewhat if the water is left to air out for a few hours in an open container). As w/ the Miox, pre-filtering out particulates to decrease turbidity will improve your purification results.
The 5 mg/l version is simply what the military required. 2.5 mg/l is what all the major health organizations recommend. You can always double treat with the Global if you have heavily contaminated water.

I had no idea. I'll have to check these out.

Interesting. Yes, prefiltering particulates is a good thing.
