      @@RealBLAlley I'm super glad they updated this plot point with pakku because while I adore the animated show, that resolution only works in animation and through the eyes of young kids. if they keep the same resolution for sexism here, it would be pretty naive in the realism of the live action format. and in the modern age, I'm glad kids have a more accurate portray of th complexity of sexism.

    i think the purpose of the vision of the northern water tribe was to give Aang a motivation to be more serious about his quest and give it a sense of urgency, in my opinion it works with the rest of the show, the animated show was more relaxed because (not saying it as a bad thing) the only motivation he had was learning waterbending

    Finished the series this morning, and while alot of things were obviously left out, I think they captured season 1 really well while having its own charm. Now that the show is over, I enjoy that they switch up somethings, combined scenes and episodes. I think it makes for a more surprising watch for people who’ve seen the original animated show. I feel like it also gives the impression that some scenes that were left out of this first season could possibly be seen in season 2. So overall I’m pretty happy with it overall. To me it seems that, in the live-action, unlike the original, not many people know stuff about the Avatar. In Wolf Cove, they didn't even know Aang was an airbender until Gran Gran told them. So I also think that it makes sense the way they did things in the live-action.

      @@Omn1Media yeah but if you think about it with the fire nation suppressing everyone that also means that they're hoarding knowledge and rewriting history we actually saw this in the third season of the original series when Aang went to that school so it makes sense in this version for only the elders and the royal family of the fire nation to know about the history of the Avatar plus I really think that notebook belonged to Zuko's mother which would make sense given her lineage

      That could be the case but that's where this is getting wishy washy as we are using the cartoon to fill in the gaps and lapses when they've already established the world isn't the same so we don't really know where we stand. I'm only working with information from this episode so far so maybe things fill in later but right now there are a few things that just feel disjointed compared to the previous episode and more so considering the things they've left out. But that's just me. All I'm saying is, I think the original was much more organic and natural with how things progressed. If you like this more, that's all fine and dandy, I just can't meet you there right now.

  • @sceptrex3942
    @sceptrex3942 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I think some of the changes are the result of going from 20 short episodes to 8 longer ones. Multiple animated episodes that took place in different locations are being combined into a single live action episode. Rather than have the characters travel to multiple locations within a single episode, the showrunners decided to just have the stories occur in the same place, which meant that some changes had to be made in order for things to make sense. I've only watched the first 4 episodes so far, but I think they've done a good job of combining things and have no problems with the changes that have been made.

    Two things that I haven't heard from you or anyone in their reactions to this episode is that during the scenes of Suki training Sokka. By the time we get to the point that Sokka manages to take down Suki in the dojo, the make-up is mostly gone from around her mouth making it easier for her to remove the rest of it and Sokka is wearing the traditional garb of a Kyoshi warrior. This allows him to blend in with the villagers when the Fire Nation soldiers show up.

    This series is making bending look absolutely terrifying in the hands of a master.
    And I think that's why they're focusing on mastering the Avatar state, because Aang is terrified of that power and who he'll unintentionally hurt while he can't control it. I like that you are also letting the show be its on thing and appreciating it for what it is ( acting , visuals , story, relationships) but you are also good at noting inconsistencies or things that seem out of place and youre also good at comparing it just enough to the orignal to give good insight. They had to delay the comet to make the aging of the actors between seasons make sense. Aang's already a foot taller with a deeper voice. Apparently he grew so fast even while filming that they had to keep remaking his costume. I do wish there was a solid explanation of how theyre changing it here though.

    I already watched it all and i think the show did a good job overall. The quality of the cgi is good, but they use it way too much, many scenes would have benefited from more pracitcal stuff and more on location instead of greenscreen. Storywise things are weirdly condensed, if you know the cartoon it is kinda confusing at some points and if you dont it feels rushed (sometimes both). The show would have benefited alot from 10 episodes instead of 8 episodes, the experience would feel alot smoother that way. For me its a 8,5 out of 10

    Well, Aang does say at the beginning of the episode that he doesn't know what it was that he did, and that he's always been scared of being too powerful. So, he doesn't know what the Avatar state is until Kyoshi tells him. The reasoning he gives for going to the island, which he knows the location of thanks to Zuko's notebook, is to get some answers about how Kyoshi grew into her role. He's looking for guidance. I think this actually makes sense because they have all these side adventures along the way in the cartoon anyway, and you'd think the same argument would apply there too. We know we have to learn water bending at the Northern Water tribe, so why are we wasting time here.. It also makes sense that, if he is already apprehensive about his power, Aang would go to the nearest place to get guidance. Maybe a place that isn't littered with the decayed corpses of his people

    Great review, I love you thought about it and presented your opinions in a fair way. As for the comet, the reason it’s not mentioned is specifically because of the “ticking clock”. No spoilers: They ended the season in way that allowed for the cast to grow up between now and if we get a second season. In the original series this all took place within a year, and Gordon (Aang) isn’t exactly 12 anymore. 😅 They said they moved the comet revelation, so it wasn’t the focus for this season. That’s probably why Kyoshi warned Aang about the incoming attack, to give this season a bigger motivation to get to the water tribe sooner than later. In a separate note, I love this version of Zhao (and the actor) and the way he’s more portrayed as more of a scheming snake behind the scenes. It’s just fun to see what he’ll do next, and the way in which he will do it. I think the change works for the unique world the live action is building. 😁

    I think them going to kyoshi island to learn about the avatar state made sense because it stems from the danger they experienced during Aang’s avatar state in the southern air temple. They talked about him needing to learn how to control it. Sokka even joking ‘before he kills somebody’. And they went to Kyoshi Island because Aang saw it on Zuko’s note (haha nice little detail that Zuko is super obsessed with the avatar) that Kyoshi has mastered the avatar state. And in that episode, kyoshi demonstrated the importance of the avatar state, noting that it can even save his life (which was seen in the first episode where he trapped himself in ice).

    I completely agree with you about the whole Avatar state being introduced so soon. The stakes are already high, we already have a goal. There's no need to saturate the plot like this in episode 2. I mean, is there even going to be enough content to explore in season 2 and 3 when they keep cramming so much in season 1? We are already cutting things out this season because of time constraint, do we really need to be adding things that weren't even in this season originally?

  • @Disney15ish
    @Disney15ish 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Learning information from the book I think makes sense for this Aang as they have shortened the amount of time between Aang learnign he's the Avatar and leaving. In the original, there was time inbetween to learn more about the Avatar. Here, he's told and goes immidetely, so this Aang literally only knows what Gyatso told him in that one conversation and nothing else.
    Also, giving Kyoshi this moment I think is a really nice way of immidetely contrasting E1's end (here's the danger of an uncontrollable Avatar State), and E2 (here's the possibilites of a controlled Avatar state). I also really like them tackling into the expanded media that's out now, like they've admitted the Kyoshi backstory in this episode is based on the Kyoshi novels that came out.

    Yeah Kataras line could have been better about helping Aang. They were probably trying to go for, he’s inspired Katara, brought back hope to her and the world. She can’t put the lid back on, theirs no turning back, this is important, etc. etc. Heck, Katara did the biggest move during the attack for the first time probably because sometimes that’s how greatness comes out of us. When we’re not thinking, we just do it out of necessity.
    Aang’s words might have gotten her out of her own head for the first time and it makes sense I’m mean he’s the first bender she’s talked to in a long time if not ever especially about her own bending abilities. I’m sure she feels stunted since her mother died. I mean she’s been practicing secretly so not much but I’m sure she has felt that she could’ve made more progress even on her own and is disappointed and frustrated with herself. She needed something, someone, anyone to get her out of her rut
    Gosh I start off critiquing and speculating and end up getting caught up in the beautiful message that is in there 🌊💙

    I think you're mixing up your knowledge of the animation series with this one. There was never any plan so far to go to the North Pole. That's not how they started out at all. Aang was taken by the fire nation and Katara and Sokka set out to get him back. Then they realised they can't bring him back to their village because it would endanger the village. There next stop was then, naturally, to go to Aang's home first. That's where they discovered Gyatso's remains, the avatar state happened, and Aang decide he needs to complete his training and learn all bending skills - but STILL no mentioning of going to the water tribe. And there is no rule introduced either that he has to start with water first. Going to the North Pole is only set up in this episode, so I don't think that's a valid criticism.

    I enjoyed this episode although some of the acting needs some work I didn't expect anything less from a first time especially when dealing with younger actors. But all in all I think they did a great job with certain parts like learning some tough love avatar state from Kyoshi especially since that's who she is and maybe that's the route they're taking until he meets Roku but other than that I think Kyoshi was just trying to show aang how to be tough especially when it comes to fighting where if aang were to meet Roku it might've been different especially after the way he died in the animated series but that's if they'll get into all that. But either way I still enjoyed this episode and seeing Aang turn into Avatar Kyoshi was a plus but it kinda makes sense awesome reaction bro 👏🏾🔥

    well chin the conqueror was tiny man in the animated series, apparently 4'5.
    unofficially its said she was 6'5-7 (198-213cm) tall, but in the Legen of Kora we see how she is similar height like Roku, but some say Roku was 6'8 (207cm) and she was 2 inches shorter aka 6'6(202cm).
    but Aang also dosnt look compared to them short, and he supposedly was 6'3 (190cm)..
    i think they where never consisten with heights cos it wasnt a pressing issue for a kids show.
    and even a 6 feet (184cm) realistic height person looks like a giant compared to 4'5 (135cm)

    How about we judge this series on its own merit instead of constantly comparing it to the original animation? Half of these changes are made out of necessity the rest are to streamline the story for fewer episodes. But in fairness not EVERY story beat from the cartoon is essential. So far the story structure here is great. Take for example stealing Zuko’s book. It gives Aang more insight whilst traveling to fewer places. It makes sense within this story. When the intention isn’t too copy the original exactly every criticism should not be ‘this is different and I don’t like it’s.
