    The biggest misconception about ceramic coating that I think many have is, that you don't need to look after your car or it's easier to wash. You need to have exactly the same routine and respect for your car as if you just use wax or sealant. The difference is the appearance after and as long as you wash correctly, swirls are much harder to get. But ceramic coating is NOT and maintenance free solution. But if you can't be bothered to clean you car properly, then ceramic is not for you.

    Hi jason, a big fan from Malaysia. I have several questions regarding the aftercare:
    1. How frequent should a coated be washed?
    2. After curing for 24hrs you mentioned that it would be continue to cure for at least 1-2 weeks, is it safe for customers to wash their car within that stage?
    3. If customer comes back at me after a month of not washing their car with tar/grimes all over shall we do a maintenance?
    *The weather here in Malaysia is tropical, its very hot & humid haha we rain most of the times too

    I agree that you're not supposed to rinse your car and just let the drops sit there, but for some of us that happens anyway because we live in areas where dew condenses on our car early in the morning.

    very informative videos on the ceramic coating topic. Having trouble with water spots only on the hood/bonnet of a 5mth old car that had ceramic coating treatment. Had not heard that the morning spray from the hose to clear mist/frost from windows in winter, could leave water spots from the splash not being dried. Seems the likely culprit, however, what to do on occasions where a car is rained on and obviously can't be dried off. I assumed the hydrophobioc effect was supposed to be precisely to stop spotting.

    • @brendandonegan2150
      @brendandonegan2150 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Difficult to stop rain water from evaporating on the car and leaving contaminates behind. I live in a hard water area and consequently I fill 25litre plastic jerries at a demineralised water machine. Water from these machines is used by window cleaners' for the non drying method to avoid any water spots. Works superbly well on the car using the suction function on the Karcher. My car has front end PPF and Ceramic on the rest of the body and wheels. Now retired, I enjoy washing the car (no waxing necessary) after half a lifetime of hand wash services.

    • @theoneders2056
      @theoneders2056 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the same exact recommended maintenance than a non coated vehicle, y'all just don't know how to wash, so now that you see a video explaining how to properly maintain a vehicle, you're stumped.
      Washing a coated car is much easier than a non coated vehicle. Wash media has less friction on surface, dirt cleans off easier, car dries easier and looks freshly detailed after just a maintenance wash. Coated cars can stay cleaner for longer compared to one that's not. My clients comment on that all the time.

      30ml is plenty to do a regular sized sedan. You would probably be cutting it close with 50ml bottle to do both vehicles. This will also depend on the brand and how many layers you plan on doing.

      You can use McKee’s N-914 Rinseless Wash in a sprayer like the ik multipro, only need to use 1/2 oz per 30oz of water. Spray it on, rinse with water, dry, done! The N-914 has great lubricating properties and helps lift dirt off, great for what you’re looking for, and use it before you do a regular wash as well to help lubricate and remove contaminates.

    Would like to know what chemicals to stay away from after coating.. Is there any that will strip the coating or break the coating down if you use them? Didn't know you can use a Iron remover after coating... TY

    • @KrispyKarl7
      @KrispyKarl7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Lowe ceramic coatings are very chemical resistant but with that being said you wanna be washing it with a ph balanced car shampoo that won’t break down the coating’s hydrophobics as that can happen to any coating if not maintained properly. A coating should not be stripped by any “stripping” chemical meant to get rid of waxed and sealants. But like I said if you wash your coated car with alkaline products and not ph balanced products you will be breaking down what makes the coating be super hydrophobic. The coating won’t be gone but what makes it bead like crazy will disappear. And like any coating after about a month or two it’s good to use the dedicated maintenance product to rejuvenate the coating’s hydrophobics. Hope this helped

    • @KrispyKarl7
      @KrispyKarl7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And yes you can use a iron remover on coatings, this is actually something that can really bring back the hydrophobics of a coating as all the contaminates on the paint are holding onto the water and not letting it bead and sheet off the paint.

    For example, if we're going to use an auto wash or manual wash car wash, what would be the best kind / style of car wash to use. What spray products should we avoid & which ones are decent options, etc.
    Basically, a video on what would be a good way to maintain our coating if we're not overly concerned / motivated / etc when it comes to doing it perfectly?
    Would it be OK to go to a drive through wash & use a shammy, no shammy, ceramic spray, no spray, detailing spray instead, what kind of wheel cleaner or none? You get the drift...
    Thank you!!!

      I think if you can't take care of your car post ceramic coating, don't do it. It's going to be a waste of money. Taking care means giving your car 20 minutes everyday. If you can give 20 minutes everyday, go for ceramic coating.
      The thing that bothers me is that no one talks about what happens to the cars original paint when the ceramic coating wears off after many years.

      If you don't maintain it properly, it won't last, period. The regular maintenance is not difficult. It's a proper hand wash. If you're an auto wash type of person, your car will not look new very long.

      @@nasdoc1 the same thing that happens when a wax where's off... nothing.
      It doesn't intermix with the car paint, it bonds to the surface of it.

    I purchased a dewalt cordless dual action polisher and 2 batteries for a DIY ceramic coating project during quarantine. After coating the car, will I have any use for the polisher on a routine basis or should I re-sell the polisher? Thx for the tips and advice!

    Can you wash a ceramic coated car too much by hand? Does the ceramic wear out if I do? Also wouldn't you prefer using a cordless leaf blower to dry rather than a microfiber? Any benefits?

    • @ChicagoAutoPros
      @ChicagoAutoPros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I don't think you can wash your car too much. A ceramic coating is going to naturally diminish over time but washing with normal soaps is nothing to worry about. Yes I would love a cordless blower, if you find one with good power and will last all day let me know.

      Chicago Auto Pros thanks! I’m a big fan of the Ego series with the larger battery. You can do three cars and just swap batteries out between cars. You guys put the bug in my ear when I saw yours so I looked cordless and had great results. It’s also a good product placement for them sponsorship wise.

    We have two race cars that have ceramic coatings on them. I believe it's called The X system. We cannot get these cars soaking wet. And take a chance of some of these expensive electrical component getting damaged. What do you recommend we do to maintain these without having to wash them? They are race cars they get treated pretty roughly sometimes. And get tons of scratches on them during the process of a race.

    there is one thing always bugs me- you can't wash it in 2 weeks, and after the wash , you can't leave the water on the surface, right? but you can drive it in the rain after 24 hours, isn't raining just doing exactly those, rinsing the surface and leave water on it?

    Do you ever use a pre-wash?
    I mean just rinse it with water, and adding soap and then do for a contact wash will indeed give swirls on the paintwork.
    Here in Sweden for instance YOU HAVE TO use a pre wash.
    Pre washes like "Citrus Pre Wash Valet Pro" "Avalanche by Auto Finesse", "APCs" or "TFRs".
    If you don't use it, you will never get rid of the embedded dirt in the paint and when you stroke your wash mitt on paint, the wash mitt will collect the dirt and therefore leave swirls.

      You certainly can, if the was a black vehicle with soft paint, I would definitely recommend it.

    Iron & tar are not always enough… here in belgium the weather is sh*t. A lot of grime will build up after time, and creat a ‘road film’ on top of the coating. What product(s) are you guys using for this ?

    I just bought a 2015 car 3 weeks ago with immaculate yellow paint, and had a ceramic coating and protective plastic wrap. The rear of the car (diffuser) is collecting soot from the exhaust pipes and don’t want to come off. The dealer advised to clay bar the diffuser to remove the soot. I have see online where the clay bar is an abrasive substance and it will damage the ceramic coating. What do you recommend?

    I got a ceramic coating from a Gtechniq licensed place. It rained 5 days later and I have water spots all over my truck. Also, my windshield gets extremely dirty quickly and when I use the wipers and the wiper fluid, it just smears all the filth and leaves huge streaks across my windshield. Is any of this normal?

    I have an e46 m3 that is washed every week, waxed every month, and covered with an oem car cover every day. Been thinking about a coating since the last guy did a poor job buffing and there is plenty of swirls. Is a car cover okay for a coating? I try and get my car cover washed once every 6 months.

    Is the C2 that you spray on your drying towel a ceramic coating maintainence spray? Or is it a type of "quick detailer" or something else? even after you blow dry the car I assume that the C2 "drying" process is to remove leftover moisture or just to apply the C2?
