I was also a teenage Asa. Self isolated for the same reasons. I probably would have liked a Denji back then but didn't have much success with dating until after high school and improved my charm from observing charming people but authenticity is key.
Asa is a bratty child but is actually such a good girl. She really can't help but feel affection and do the good thing. She can't help but warn denji to stay away from her inspitee of wanting to be liked. And that completely contradicts with what Yoru wants from her and does with her physical body. It's such a complicated dynamic that's being built between Asa, Denji and the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. We got war, famine and now with nayuta conquest devil.
Fujimoto is a genius, he changed the protagonist of the story and executed it so well that some people are even liking part 2 more than they liked part 1.
I like the two parts for very different reasons but I can understand someone liking one more than the other. My girlfriend certainly likes part 2 more than 1, so it's just a matter of what you want out of the series

Agreed that Fujimoto writes great female characters, some of the best out there, but there's others that have done it well too: JoJo (more so after part 3), Hunter x Hunter, Twin Star Exorcists, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc.
Agreed that Fujimoto does write complex female characters. I like how his women have agency. Even if there's lewd stuff involved, it's almost always the woman who initiates it. From Power allowing Denji to touch her chest as payment for rescuing Meowy (and stipulating the ground rules for the three touches), to Himeno wanting to give Denji his first kiss (even if it's just to make Aki jealous; sure, her wanting to seduce Denji was kinda sus, I can blame it on the alcohol and, to her credit, she did stop once Denji rejects her for Makima). Ditto with Makima who, of course, just dominates Denji in their lopsided relationship (and with him breaking free from that toxicity of control and manipulation).
@@NINJAMUSHI I think Araki starts to write better female characters until part 6. Although Lisa Lisa is amazing, I so wish she had at least one major fight without getting sacked by Kars. However, I'm on the fence that Fujimoto's writing on female characters is by far the best from the authors you listed.
That's why I didn't say Fujimoto wrote the best females, just some of the best. And yeah, it's really during part 6 that Araki got great at making female characters (though there's good ones in 4 and 5). Yasuho is my personal favorite of Araki's female characters

One thing I appreciate about Asa is that we're introduced to her looking like a stoic, cool girl. Then Fujimoto said "Nope. She's just as big of a loser as Denji". I also like that she's allowed to be awkward in ways that do actually make things weird and uncomfortable.
Love Asa. And I too don't want chainsaw man to become a story where every character that's introduced dies a tragic death. It's just gonna make me insensitive to character's death.
The internal conflict of interests for Asa is built so well - when she equally relieved that Denji did not turned into a weapon and disappointed that it means he does not like her enough. Which in turn sets another chain of events and misunderstanding where Denji can't figure out why she's acting so erratically.
I'm assuming there's another reason she can't turn Denji into a weapon, either because he's a devil or already a weapon (a chainsaw), but because she doesn't know that, him not liking her is the only conclusion she can come to. Though that's just speculation until something is confirmed. We'll have to wait and see

War Devil can convert into weapon anything that belongs to her but Denji already made two contracts (with Pochita and Power) and thus can't give himself to someone just because he is from demonic perspective (de uro) no longer belongs to himself. He just can't give what he doe not own.
"Love" being the main idea of the entirety of Chainsaw man is really beautiful to me, Love how deep you are able to dig in this story that seems like a surface level story at first glance
If the theme of CSM is love, then I'm sure the next thing for love is the conflict of sharing that love which would entail Nayuta not wanting to "share" Denji's love with Asa, referring to her as a "thief"
Yoru also falling for Denji is also quite interesting. Even in this latest chapter, she tries to turn Denji into a weapon but pauses after kissing him seemingly caught up in the moment.
It's funny that Denji keeps his lips closed during the kiss. Maybe he was surprised by it, maybe not, but he's not making the same mistake of an opened-mouth kiss again given what happened with both Himeno (princess pukes-a-lot) and Reze (tongue biter), lol.
Do i not say enough? Asa is the top for the whole of this year. She is perfection. Action, emo, princess, clown, autistic, ego, love, hurt, wholesome, great beauty, etc etc, she has it all.
Legit I think Fujimoto is the kinda person who would do that lol, I mean guy was so good at making people paranoid because of part 1 while nothing bad is happening (yet) at all until the latest chapter.

Yeah, while he does love writing a tragedy he also doesn't seem to like doing shit just to be edgy. Pulling shit outta your ass because it's funny? 100%, he can't pass up a joke. Edgy? I've been reading through some of his old one shots and while he likes his darkness he also definitely likes a deserved happy ending. The tragedy of part 1 was pretty well telegraphed and all thematically on point. If it looks like a tragic ending would thematically fit part 2 I'd get a little worried, but so far our main duo really seem like they just need a hard fought happy end to bring it all around. They won't get out unscathed, and maybe they'll end up separated, but if they're alive and loved they'll have found peace. Personally, however their romantic relationship turns out, I'd love to see them just say fuck it and drag all their pets and devils they've accumulated out to where noone can bother them with bullshit again. Just live happily as pochita wanted for denji, and live more selfishly as asa wanted for herself
If the theory about Denji would split Asa and Yoru apart with his chainsaw were true, it'll be another heartbreaking for sure, not for Denji, but Asa, as she would think of Yoru as her sister later
They won't split, I'm thinking, after yoru too falls for denji, she would opt to stay with asa, share denji. Which would be a fight between asa team yoru vs nayuta makima control.

I think what’s to be considered with how the story potentially goes is how Chainsaw Man is noticeably a lot more softer compared to a lot of Fujimoto’s works. It’s still incredibly bleak and depressing at times but one of the core themes of the story is that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and you see this with how Denji refutes Makima’s line of "I believe the world would be better if bad movies ceased to exist." Wanting to live in a world where there is no bad to highlight the good is unrealistic and ultimately damaging and you can see this with how, while Denji’s suffering is painful to see, he’s now much more susceptible to showing off his kinder nature and this is what gets Asa to fall for him. So yeah, while I think that these two will go through a LOT of hell at some points in the series, I think it will ultimately work out for them.
Asa is one of my favorite main characters ever and the reason i might just like part 2 more than part1. She's just such reletable and human character it's almost too good to be true. She can be a really jealous person but still good at heart because people have different sides to them and it's not just black and white. I just love her character and how you can see yourself in her no matter where you come from, like denji and asa come from completely different circumstances but still relate to each other. And i'm sure i'm not the only one who can see themself in her.
so far i'm loving part 2 asa is so much fun as a protag my only complaint for part 2 is so small it doesn't even affect the story but i saw that the Japanese volumes still have those cute pochita illustrations and i kinda wish for part 2 either bucky or the war devils animal form took that spot
With Fujimoto you never know how its gonna end. But i like to believe part 2 is gonna have an happy ending. It seems to have less of a focus on character suffering and more on personal healing. For example, Denji's relationship with Nayuta could be a way to heal Denji's feelings towards Makima. Not a relationship between an oppressor and a dog, but a genuine bond between Brother and Sister. And Asa, as you say, being the one girl who doesn't care for chainsaw man, could be the one who can help him heal from reze and the other traumas. And Denji being the one person who can appreciate Asa despite her flaws, giving her the love she is looking for. Not to mention we should see a new Blood devil/fiend, as Denji made a contract with Power to find it, so we might be able to see Denji reconnect with his first friend.

This is the best analysis of Chainsaw Man part 2. I love it when authors write plots that develop parallel to the original, it uses repetition to reframe the themes of the story. The way you put it in this video was extremely well done. I think Asa being a femcel is one of the most big brained move for part 2. At this point Fujimoto having her being controlled by the control devil is the last nail for Denji and Asa being the same character pretty much lol 😂
when i started part one i was pleasantly surprised at how effortless the protagonist switch was and actually found my self warming up to asa very quickly to where i am know and really like her character. fujimoto did a fantastic job bc i know an mc switch can be tough (but to counter a bit, her main story or like her personal conflict does have to do with denji but to me her character isn’t banking off that with the context of the plot and if some people think it is well at least it’s good)
Brilliant analysis I'm loving Asa as a character and her relationship with Denji I'm really excited and terrified to see where fujimoto is going with this but I'm sure it's going to be an amazing ride
Asa reminds me so much of my teen self, it's almost embarassing😭 but for real, one of the great things about mangas like csm or gintama is that the author writes the female characters just like they write the male ones. They are not afraid to give them flaws and make them seem "alive", as opposed to many other works where female characters are one dimensional because their whole role is being a woman and most of the time the love interest. Regarding this, I love how Fujimoto is handling the relationship between Denji and Asa because Asa is not just his love interest. They are on par with each other and we can both of their point of views which makes me even more interested to see how it's gonna develop

I love this analysis. The overall theme of “Love” in this manga has been apparent and a gradual burn, and man has it been freaking WILD seeing everyone’s outlooks and wants collide.
Minor correction, one of the bullies are saved by Denji, and based on her character design aswell as the amount of screentime she has had I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a side character in the future.
Ok since the release of chapter 121 I do believe that intimate personal love being better than mass love will be an important lesson and theme in part 2 , it’s obvious that denji needs personal love from someone and it is being written that way, the question was even straight up brought up, it has convinced me that Denji is going to have to learn that personal intimate love of who HE is, is better than shallow idolization of what he Represents, not to mention that the starfish represent infinite divine love, regeneration, healing, renewal, curing yourself over time and filling up the void and replacing it with something better, so yeah LMAO, I hope Fujimoto uses this wholesome concept to make something Beautiful, PLEASE FUJIMOTO 🙏🙏
i hope that fujimoto doesn’t kill off Asa or Denji, but especially Asa. Just like you said, readers are gonna get really tired of characters constantly getting killed off, and the manga would lose the interest of its readers. There still needs to have contrast between the cynical stuff and the hopeful stuff.
I love that we have two main characters for this series and both are endearing losers that have realistic motivations and flaws that you just can't help but want to protect. Fujimoto writes such great characters, even in his very twisted world he creates he still makes them so relatable and they never act like they're the "main character"
great video. this actually has me thinking about how nayutas sudden introduction in the last chapter will shake up things. if devils in CSM represent the darker side of humanity or fear/trauma, the truth about denji/nayuta and asa/yoru coming out will start a conflict between the two that could be really interesting. asa and denji will have to struggle against the darker aspects of themselves if they wanna keep being together
*Where will the connection between Denji and Asa take them?* Knowing Fujimoto, a world of pain and suffering. Seriously, though. These two are so precious together. You want them to be happy, but you know that's impossible given the Author's track record.
One interesting aspect of part 2 is we don’t really have a big threat. In part 1 we had the gun devil as the big antagonist (at least that’s what the reader believes for the list part) but so far there is nothing like that in part 2. The war devil is more of a joke character, the death devil is too far into the future and the other horsemen aren’t portrayed as real antagonists so far. Rather just as characters with influence.
I sort of agree? I think the big "threat" in this part isn't exactly an entity, but moreso the dramatic irony, the knowledge that Yoru will want to kill Denji despite his relationship with Asa (and therefore Yoru) becoming more intimate and complicated over time. There is a threat, just not in the way people expect
I love all your chainsaw man videos! Since i discovered your channel i've been rereading it and re-evaluating how good this manga is, wich went unnoticed the first time i'd read. It has become one of my favorite mangas and i guess its in part thanks to videos like this, keep up with it you're good at this and the editing is also top notch. About Asa, i wouldn't be worried about her safety, i'm loving the character and i think that Part 2 is Asa's story as much as Part 1 was Denji's, we'll be with her for a while. The one we should be worrying about is Denji. I hope he doesnt end up dead, at least not for now, he deserves a well built and worthy ending to his story, not an abrupt and unjustified one. Either way, i wouldn't kill him, would be crazy that no Fujimoto chatacter is allowed to grow old and die peacefully. P.S: dont take this as a suggestion to focus your channel into one series! i guess you already know and are reluctant to that.

I like Asa because she's all-in-one in some tropes I like with a twist. A true heroine who doesn't just become a hero instantly but with inner struggles, even under the influence of the main villain Yoru, she still manages to stray away from her control and even used her powers to destroy justice and Eternity devil. She never gives up her principles even if evil is disguised as her "friends" like Class Pres and Yuko. I like to headcanon that Mr. Tanaka is innocent and is just accused by the Class Pres since the Class Pres is deluded in character. She's also creepy, cause even if she is a hero, the introduction of Yoru showed how scary Asa is if she's evil. Yoru is the ghost version of Asa for me, it's like Sadako but more action horror. The military always fought men clad in the same camouflaged armor as they are, desensitizing combat, but facing a young schoolgirl who may look like your crush back in the day? That would be insane and hard to believe that's the War Devil. Also, her relationship with Denji is a realistic trope of enemies to lovers. When Denji realized that she hates him, Denji was shocked and later accepted it and is even humble to ask why is she talking to him again when she hates him. But later eventually they get along realistically without instantly liking each other. So she's a combination of a creepy horror villainess, an unlikely action heroine, and the enemies-to-lovers trope.

Tanaka isnt inocent, we learn through yuko that the justice devil gives telepathic powers (prez read his mind and confirmed that he definetely lusted after asa) and the fact that yoru could turn him in a weapon (which she could only do to those who “belong” to her). Tanaka is a predator, who take advantage of vulnerable girls with his “good guy” image. I wouldn’t say class prez or Yuko were evil, in the end of the day they were victims of the Justice devil, who took advantage of their naivety , they were flawed but werent murderous until they made the contract
Ik this video is sorta old but damn you've explained the exact reasons why I related so hard to Asa as a character. As a girl myself who was often jealous of other ppl bc I was always pressured by my parents to "be mature and successful, and beat everyone else," I grew up to be cynical and loathing of both myself and others. Asa desiring love and connection and the way Fujimoto portrayed her story really spoke to me a lot, which surprised me because this wasn't what I was expecting from a female character in a Shonen Jump title. I'm suuuuper interested as to what he has planned next for her story and this video really helped articulate my thoughts.
The revelation about Asas life during the confrontation with the falling devil was perfect . I was already questioning my Dennis loyalty, but that solidified it . Asa is one of the best protagonists I’ve ever read. I can’t believe it but I like her more than Denji Also as someone with a reef tank that’s always been into fish and ocean life .. she’s a catch . Lol Edit: the fact their stories are similar reminds me very much of how One Piece replays world events but with different stimuli and different results . Alabasta where a warlord tries to conquer an island, Dressrosa where the warlord succeeds .
ADDENDUM ON THE ADDENDUM: Chapter 120 isn't as destructive as you might think, as of right now it's a setback but nothing has been damaged beyond repair. These kinda hurdles are not all that unique to Chainsaw Man, this is a fairly normal conflict in relationship building in manga. 9/10 if any other author did a switch up like Fuji did with part 1 to part 2 I would of lost interest in the story, but he executed it so well that I’m very much enjoying Asa and the story
I loved how you also used Nier Automata's legendary OST. Especially that one for deep reflection, it's like a neat reference to our love of deeply nuanced media
The bond that Denji and Power developed was one if of the best things about part 1 for me and seeing this nuanced building of Asa and Denjis bond tickles me in the feels in the same way. The opening of Chainsaw Man making you think it was a harem anime made me quit the series until my sister convinced me to keep going and I'm glad I did.

i think people are wrong to say you can only expect pain and suffering from chainsaw man. sure, that's a part of life, but they're missing the point if that's all they see. fujimoto's thing isn't ruining anything nice with tragedy, it's building up expectations to subvert them. so in part one, every time someone shows genuine love for someone else, they're almost immediately killed. this is to set up an expectation, and i think part two will subvert it and it will hit harder when something nice happens because of it. or he could expect us to feel that way and hit the world with a meteor, who knows
Fujimoto pulled a Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on us with the change of protagonist and placing the original protagonist as a side character to get a wholly different perspective of the characters involved.
You know out of all characters in media, while I relate to some ones and some are my favorites. None have ever reach the status of favorite character of all time. If someone's favorite character is a literal train of Thomas and Friends Edward or a crab named Tamatoa from Moana, maybe I'll never have an all time favorite character. Or a literally me c-you get the point. But out of all the characters and after thinking about CSM Part 2 Asa became my favorite character of all time. Because I guess in a sense she's literally me. I enjoyed Denji as a main character, but I enjoyed Asa more because Fujimoto is so good with his female cast. I'm sure it's because of his simping for dominant woman is a thing, but when he made Asa I'm surprised of how kind of realistic and frighteningly horrifying she was. As a person growing up I did make friendships, but sadly I wasn't able to sustain or have them together. I remember dumb me chosed a girl who literally left Grade 3 over issues with home life. And when I I'm left with a former friend, my reluctance and fear of them caused out friendship to break and it was too late when she left High School. Asa to me was a character that made me think of myself and my life. I wasn't as anti social as Asa but younger me cried over small things. It didn't help I was diagnosed as Neurodivergent as a preteen and that was when things felt hard. I had to fit in, maybe socialise, or try to get along with others. It didn't help that like Asa I felt the students I interacted it were pathetic. I viewed the cool kids like animals and brats. And sadly younger me was always the respectful and friendly teacher's pet. While I still made friends some were just a few. And a friend I had I sadly interact due to lack of motivation and the 2020 event happening. I didn't even know her email address and stuff and that was that. So to have a character I relate to makes me feel happy. And I love how Asa isn't your standard shy or meek character that is cute all the time. She's kind of a tired and antisocial person dealing with the loss of her parents as well as feeling lonely after every relationship she has ends up breaking apart. Asa wants connection but she's unsure if she should. She had her pet cat that was gone because of a horrible person, she tries to have one in the form of Yuko but Yuko wasn't a good friend and she is gone even though they made amends, and Denji while he shares the same plight as hee after the infamous scene in CSM there's no way they'll ever connect easily plus Asa is becoming too obssessive of him it becomes unhealyhy, and finally she has to deal with Yoru's BS. This girl cannot catch a break and I pity her and sympathize. If there is one thing both me and Asa have, both of us get tired from interaction. Tired from interacting with loud conversations and not understanding things. So when Asa struggles I hope she learns she must love herself in order to connect with others. As well as understanding her wish on selfishness is making her unable to seek more connections.
I think a "tragic death" isn't what the point is. It's that the world, despite moments of happiness and even bliss, can still end abruptly or sadly. We see this a lot in life. I love that CSM can craft this insane gore fantasy but subtly bring us back to reality in a way most mangaka use plot armor or an unrealistic "happy ending." I'd love denji to get a W, but I also love his world is built on struggle and sacrifice.

It's woefully pessimistic and a buzzkill if a media has to keep going through misery and depression to keep it's supposed realism. I don't think having a happy ending is unrealistic, though it'd probably lean much more towards bittersweet.

SPOILER ALERT: Nayuta DID end up getting in the Way and possibly Yoshida too surprisingly (which will make me sick to my stomach if anything does happen between them) 💀 I hope this, however, is just to add drama and conflict between Asa and Denji, and that all of this is still part of Fujimoto's twisted but carefully calculated plan to eventually get Asa and Denji together. It's gonna be a Very Bump Slow Burn but I'm here for it, I still haven't given up hope of a Happy Ending. I've got my eye on you Fujimoto. Please let our main characters be Happy. 🙏🏾

She can't help but warn denji to stay away from her inspitee of wanting to be liked. And that completely contradicts with what Yoru wants from her and does with her physical body. It's such a complicated dynamic that's being built between Asa, Denji and the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. We got war, famine and now with nayuta conquest devil.
Fujimoto is a genius, he changed the protagonist of the story and executed it so well that some people are even liking part 2 more than they liked part 1.
I like the two parts for very different reasons but I can understand someone liking one more than the other. My girlfriend certainly likes part 2 more than 1, so it's just a matter of what you want out of the series
People can like both.

Agreed that Fujimoto writes great female characters, some of the best out there, but there's others that have done it well too: JoJo (more so after part 3), Hunter x Hunter, Twin Star Exorcists, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc.
Agreed that Fujimoto does write complex female characters. I like how his women have agency. Even if there's lewd stuff involved, it's almost always the woman who initiates it. From Power allowing Denji to touch her chest as payment for rescuing Meowy (and stipulating the ground rules for the three touches), to Himeno wanting to give Denji his first kiss (even if it's just to make Aki jealous; sure, her wanting to seduce Denji was kinda sus, I can blame it on the alcohol and, to her credit, she did stop once Denji rejects her for Makima). Ditto with Makima who, of course, just dominates Denji in their lopsided relationship (and with him breaking free from that toxicity of control and manipulation).
@@NINJAMUSHI I think Araki starts to write better female characters until part 6. Although Lisa Lisa is amazing, I so wish she had at least one major fight without getting sacked by Kars. However, I'm on the fence that Fujimoto's writing on female characters is by far the best from the authors you listed.
That's why I didn't say Fujimoto wrote the best females, just some of the best. And yeah, it's really during part 6 that Araki got great at making female characters (though there's good ones in 4 and 5). Yasuho is my personal favorite of Araki's female characters

One thing I appreciate about Asa is that we're introduced to her looking like a stoic, cool girl. Then Fujimoto said "Nope. She's just as big of a loser as Denji". I also like that she's allowed to be awkward in ways that do actually make things weird and uncomfortable.

The internal conflict of interests for Asa is built so well - when she equally relieved that Denji did not turned into a weapon and disappointed that it means he does not like her enough. Which in turn sets another chain of events and misunderstanding where Denji can't figure out why she's acting so erratically.
I'm assuming there's another reason she can't turn Denji into a weapon, either because he's a devil or already a weapon (a chainsaw), but because she doesn't know that, him not liking her is the only conclusion she can come to. Though that's just speculation until something is confirmed. We'll have to wait and see

War Devil can convert into weapon anything that belongs to her but Denji already made two contracts (with Pochita and Power) and thus can't give himself to someone just because he is from demonic perspective (de uro) no longer belongs to himself. Yeah, while he does love writing a tragedy he also doesn't seem to like doing shit just to be edgy. Pulling shit outta your ass because it's funny? 100%, he can't pass up a joke. Edgy? I've been reading through some of his old one shots and while he likes his darkness he also definitely likes a deserved happy ending. The tragedy of part 1 was pretty well telegraphed and all thematically on point. If it looks like a tragic ending would thematically fit part 2 I'd get a little worried, but so far our main duo really seem like they just need a hard fought happy end to bring it all around. They won't get out unscathed, and maybe they'll end up separated, but if they're alive and loved they'll have found peace. Personally, however their romantic relationship turns out, I'd love to see them just say fuck it and drag all their pets and devils they've accumulated out to where noone can bother them with bullshit again. Just live happily as pochita wanted for denji, and live more selfishly as asa wanted for herself
If the theory about Denji would split Asa and Yoru apart with his chainsaw were true, it'll be another heartbreaking for sure, not for Denji, but Asa, as she would think of Yoru as her sister later

I think what’s to be considered with how the story potentially goes is how Chainsaw Man is noticeably a lot more softer compared to a lot of Fujimoto’s works. It’s still incredibly bleak and depressing at times but one of the core themes of the story is that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and you see this with how Denji refutes Makima’s line of "I believe the world would be better if bad movies ceased to exist." Wanting to live in a world where there is no bad to highlight the good is unrealistic and ultimately damaging and you can see this with how, while Denji’s suffering is painful to see, he’s now much more susceptible to showing off his kinder nature and this is what gets Asa to fall for him. So yeah, while I think that these two will go through a LOT of hell at some points in the series, I think it will ultimately work out for them.
Asa is one of my favorite main characters ever and the reason i might just like part 2 more than part1. She's just such reletable and human character it's almost too good to be true. She can be a really jealous person but still good at heart because people have different sides to them and it's not just black and white. I just love her character and how you can see yourself in her no matter where you come from, like denji and asa come from completely different circumstances but still relate to each other. And i'm sure i'm not the only one who can see themself in her.

so far i'm loving part 2 asa is so much fun as a protag my only complaint for part 2 is so small it doesn't even affect the story but i saw that the Japanese volumes still have those cute pochita illustrations and i kinda wish for part 2 either bucky or the war devils animal form took that spot

With Fujimoto you never know how its gonna end. But i like to believe part 2 is gonna have an happy ending.
It seems to have less of a focus on character suffering and more on personal healing.
For example, Denji's relationship with Nayuta could be a way to heal Denji's feelings towards Makima. Not a relationship between an oppressor and a dog, but a genuine bond between Brother and Sister. And Asa, as you say, being the one girl who doesn't care for chainsaw man, could be the one who can help him heal from reze and the other traumas. And Denji being the one person who can appreciate Asa despite her flaws, giving her the love she is looking for.
Not to mention we should see a new Blood devil/fiend, as Denji made a contract with Power to find it, so we might be able to see Denji reconnect with his first friend.
Super eyepatch wolf pointed it out in his video too, but honestly, ever since fire punch, Fujimoto’sbeen growing more and more out of the bleak nihilistic mindset when storytelling, so you’re probably righ
This is the best analysis of Chainsaw Man part 2. I love it when authors write plots that develop parallel to the original, it uses repetition to reframe the themes of the story. The way you put it in this video was extremely well done. I think Asa being a femcel is one of the most big brained move for part 2. At this point Fujimoto having her being controlled by the control devil is the last nail for Denji and Asa being the same character pretty much lol 😂
when i started part one i was pleasantly surprised at how effortless the protagonist switch was and actually found my self warming up to asa very quickly to where i am know and really like her character. fujimoto did a fantastic job bc i know an mc switch can be tough (but to counter a bit, her main story or like her personal conflict does have to do with denji but to me her character isn’t banking off that with the context of the plot and if some people think it is well at least it’s good)
She’s her own worst enemy and the anti-Denji. It makes her fun to watch.

Asa reminds me so much of my teen self, it's almost embarassing😭 but for real, one of the great things about mangas like csm or gintama is that the author writes the female characters just like they write the male ones. They are not afraid to give them flaws and make them seem "alive", as opposed to many other works where female characters are one dimensional because their whole role is being a woman and most of the time the love interest. Regarding this, I love how Fujimoto is handling the relationship between Denji and Asa because Asa is not just his love interest. They are on par with each other and we can both of their point of views which makes me even more interested to see how it's gonna develop

I love this analysis. The overall theme of “Love” in this manga has been apparent and a gradual burn, and man has it been freaking WILD seeing everyone’s outlooks and wants collide.
Minor correction, one of the bullies are saved by Denji, and based on her character design aswell as the amount of screentime she has had I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a side character in the future.

Ok since the release of chapter 121 I do believe that intimate personal love being better than mass love will be an important lesson and theme in part 2 , it’s obvious that denji needs personal love from someone and it is being written that way, the question was even straight up brought up, it has convinced me that Denji is going to have to learn that personal intimate love of who HE is, is better than shallow idolization of what he Represents, not to mention that the starfish represent infinite divine love, regeneration, healing, renewal, curing yourself over time and filling up the void and replacing it with something better, so yeah LMAO, I hope Fujimoto uses this wholesome concept to make something Beautiful, PLEASE FUJIMOTO 🙏🙏

I love that we have two main characters for this series and both are endearing losers that have realistic motivations and flaws that you just can't help but want to protect. Fujimoto writes such great characters, even in his very twisted world he creates he still makes them so relatable and they never act like they're the "main character"

great video. this actually has me thinking about how nayutas sudden introduction in the last chapter will shake up things. if devils in CSM represent the darker side of humanity or fear/trauma, the truth about denji/nayuta and asa/yoru coming out will start a conflict between the two that could be really interesting. asa and denji will have to struggle against the darker aspects of themselves if they wanna keep being together

Seriously, though. These two are so precious together. You want them to be happy, but you know that's impossible given the Author's track record.

One interesting aspect of part 2 is we don’t really have a big threat. In part 1 we had the gun devil as the big antagonist (at least that’s what the reader believes for the list part) but so far there is nothing like that in part 2. The war devil is more of a joke character, the death devil is too far into the future and the other horsemen aren’t portrayed as real antagonists so far. Rather just as characters with influence.
I sort of agree? I think the big "threat" in this part isn't exactly an entity, but moreso the dramatic irony, the knowledge that Yoru will want to kill Denji despite his relationship with Asa (and therefore Yoru) becoming more intimate and complicated over time. There is a threat, just not in the way people expect
Yeah, the story just turned into a romance rather than an action series, and it's surprisingly good.

I love all your chainsaw man videos! Since i discovered your channel i've been rereading it and re-evaluating how good this manga is, wich went unnoticed the first time i'd read. It has become one of my favorite mangas and i guess its in part thanks to videos like this, keep up with it you're good at this and the editing is also top notch.
About Asa, i wouldn't be worried about her safety, i'm loving the character and i think that Part 2 is Asa's story as much as Part 1 was Denji's, we'll be with her for a while. The one we should be worrying about is Denji. I hope he doesnt end up dead, at least not for now, he deserves a well built and worthy ending to his story, not an abrupt and unjustified one. Either way, i wouldn't kill him, would be crazy that no Fujimoto chatacter is allowed to grow old and die peacefully.
P.S: dont take this as a suggestion to focus your channel into one series! i guess you already know and are reluctant to that.

First time reading part 2, I honestly did not know how to put it, but as the story went on, it slowly grew on me more than how part 1 did.
I want to ask Fujimoto if he’s ever played any of the Suda 51 games. I don’t think he’s ever mentioned them but you playing the music feels so natural. It made me realize how similar they are.

I like Asa because she's all-in-one in some tropes I like with a twist.
A true heroine who doesn't just become a hero instantly but with inner struggles, even under the influence of the main villain Yoru, she still manages to stray away from her control and even used her powers to destroy justice and Eternity devil. She never gives up her principles even if evil is disguised as her "friends" like Class Pres and Yuko. I like to headcanon that Mr. Tanaka is innocent and is just accused by the Class Pres since the Class Pres is deluded in character.
She's also creepy, cause even if she is a hero, the introduction of Yoru showed how scary Asa is if she's evil. Yoru is the ghost version of Asa for me, it's like Sadako but more action horror. The military always fought men clad in the same camouflaged armor as they are, desensitizing combat, but facing a young schoolgirl who may look like your crush back in the day? That would be insane and hard to believe that's the War Devil.
Also, her relationship with Denji is a realistic trope of enemies to lovers. When Denji realized that she hates him, Denji was shocked and later accepted it and is even humble to ask why is she talking to him again when she hates him. But later eventually they get along realistically without instantly liking each other.
So she's a combination of a creepy horror villainess, an unlikely action heroine, and the enemies-to-lovers trope.
I'm a little drunk while reading this but I'll say this much: you get a heart for writing this much and I think I agree with mostly everything you said
Tanaka isnt inocent, we learn through yuko that the justice devil gives telepathic powers (prez read his mind and confirmed that he definetely lusted after asa) and the fact that yoru could turn him in a weapon (which she could only do to those who “belong” to her). Tanaka is a predator, who take advantage of vulnerable girls with his “good guy” image. I wouldn’t say class prez or Yuko were evil, in the end of the day they were victims of the Justice devil, who took advantage of their naivety , they were flawed but werent murderous until they made the contract
Ik this video is sorta old but damn you've explained the exact reasons why I related so hard to Asa as a character. As a girl myself who was often jealous of other ppl bc I was always pressured by my parents to "be mature and successful, and beat everyone else," I grew up to be cynical and loathing of both myself and others. Asa desiring love and connection and the way Fujimoto portrayed her story really spoke to me a lot, which surprised me because this wasn't what I was expecting from a female character in a Shonen Jump title. I'm suuuuper interested as to what he has planned next for her story and this video really helped articulate my thoughts.

The revelation about Asas life during the confrontation with the falling devil was perfect . I was already questioning my Dennis loyalty, but that solidified it . Asa is one of the best protagonists I’ve ever read. I can’t believe it but I like her more than Denji

Edit: the fact their stories are similar reminds me very much of how One Piece replays world events but with different stimuli and different results . Alabasta where a warlord tries to conquer an island, Dressrosa where the warlord succeeds .
ADDENDUM ON THE ADDENDUM: Chapter 120 isn't as destructive as you might think, as of right now it's a setback but nothing has been damaged beyond repair. These kinda hurdles are not all that unique to Chainsaw Man, this is a fairly normal conflict in relationship building in manga. We'll see how it'll go in later chapters, don't think this one chapter disrupts everything. Also, I made an analysis on chapter 120/Nayuta as a follow up to this video. The bond that Denji and Power developed was one if of the best things about part 1 for me and seeing this nuanced building of Asa and Denjis bond tickles me in the feels in the same way. i think people are wrong to say you can only expect pain and suffering from chainsaw man. sure, that's a part of life, but they're missing the point if that's all they see. fujimoto's thing isn't ruining anything nice with tragedy, it's building up expectations to subvert them. so in part one, every time someone shows genuine love for someone else, they're almost immediately killed. this is to set up an expectation, and i think part two will subvert it and it will hit harder when something nice happens because of it. or he could expect us to feel that way and hit the world with a meteor, who knows

Fujimoto pulled a Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on us with the change of protagonist and placing the original protagonist as a side character to get a wholly different perspective of the characters involved.
You know out of all characters in media, while I relate to some ones and some are my favorites. None have ever reach the status of favorite character of all time. If someone's favorite character is a literal train of Thomas and Friends Edward or a crab named Tamatoa from Moana, maybe I'll never have an all time favorite character. Or a literally me c-you get the point.
But out of all the characters and after thinking about CSM Part 2 Asa became my favorite character of all time. Because I guess in a sense she's literally me. I enjoyed Denji as a main character, but I enjoyed Asa more because Fujimoto is so good with his female cast. I'm sure it's because of his simping for dominant woman is a thing, but when he made Asa I'm surprised of how kind of realistic and frighteningly horrifying she was.
As a person growing up I did make friendships, but sadly I wasn't able to sustain or have them together. I remember dumb me chosed a girl who literally left Grade 3 over issues with home life. And when I I'm left with a former friend, my reluctance and fear of them caused out friendship to break and it was too late when she left High School.
Asa to me was a character that made me think of myself and my life. I wasn't as anti social as Asa but younger me cried over small things. It didn't help I was diagnosed as Neurodivergent as a preteen and that was when things felt hard. I had to fit in, maybe socialise, or try to get along with others. It didn't help that like Asa I felt the students I interacted it were pathetic. I viewed the cool kids like animals and brats. And sadly younger me was always the respectful and friendly teacher's pet. While I still made friends some were just a few. And a friend I had I sadly interact due to lack of motivation and the 2020 event happening. I didn't even know her email address and stuff and that was that.
So to have a character I relate to makes me feel happy. And I love how Asa isn't your standard shy or meek character that is cute all the time. She's kind of a tired and antisocial person dealing with the loss of her parents as well as feeling lonely after every relationship she has ends up breaking apart. Asa wants connection but she's unsure if she should. She had her pet cat that was gone because of a horrible person, she tries to have one in the form of Yuko but Yuko wasn't a good friend and she is gone even though they made amends, and Denji while he shares the same plight as hee after the infamous scene in CSM there's no way they'll ever connect easily plus Asa is becoming too obssessive of him it becomes unhealyhy, and finally she has to deal with Yoru's BS. This girl cannot catch a break and I pity her and sympathize.
If there is one thing both me and Asa have, both of us get tired from interaction. Tired from interacting with loud conversations and not understanding things. So when Asa struggles I hope she learns she must love herself in order to connect with others. As well as understanding her wish on selfishness is making her unable to seek more connections.
I think a "tragic death" isn't what the point is. It's that the world, despite moments of happiness and even bliss, can still end abruptly or sadly. We see this a lot in life. I love that CSM can craft this insane gore fantasy but subtly bring us back to reality in a way most mangaka use plot armor or an unrealistic "happy ending." I'd love denji to get a W, but I also love his world is built on struggle and sacrifice.
I wrote like a paragraph kinda replying to your point with my own feelings and went I hit "reply" my internet cut out and I lost my comment. So uh. I'll just say: "hahaha, me like when story go happy" and leave it at that
@NINJAMUSHI Damn dude, I'm so sorry. I can respect that. A happy ending wouldn't ruin CSM for me. Whatever happened I'll probaby never stop rereading it.
It's woefully pessimistic and a buzzkill if a media has to keep going through misery and depression to keep it's supposed realism.
I don't think having a happy ending is unrealistic, though it'd probably lean much more towards bittersweet.

SPOILER ALERT: Nayuta DID end up getting in the Way and possibly Yoshida too surprisingly (which will make me sick to my stomach if anything does happen between them) 💀 I hope this, however, is just to add drama and conflict between Asa and Denji, and that all of this is still part of Fujimoto's twisted but carefully calculated plan to eventually get Asa and Denji together. It's gonna be a Very Bump Slow Burn but I'm here for it, I still haven't given up hope of a Happy Ending. I've got my eye on you Fujimoto. Please let our main characters be Happy. 🙏🏾
