  • Transitioning from a traditional teacher to a guide at a Montessori-inspired school has been a journey! Here's a sneak peek into a day in my life as a teacher (aka guide at a Montessori-inspired school). I explain quite a bit about the differences and share some activities we are doing in the studio (aka classroom) to help build a strong classroom community!

    This is super interesting, and I love watching people integrate ideas from other pedagogies. I see a few Montessori ideas going on here, but it seems very different from what I do as a Montessori elementary guide.

    Hi! I just wanted to thank you for this video. I’m a college student studying childhood Ed and special education. Last semester I learned about Montessori learning and was interested in what it was like. Your video was very informative, thank you so much! If anyone has any advice for upcoming teachers I would love to hear it!

    Definitely misleading to what a real Montessori classroom is, and most importantly what the Method is. Beautiful classroom though, regards.

    I am not trying to be rude, but rather informative to others. Your video clearly states you are a Montessori guide. I am studying Montessori education and completing the AMI 0-3 Assistants to Infancy program. I am sure you are a great teacher, but this is NOT Montessori. This is definitely misleading to others. This is not what a Montessori classroom looks like and this is not what Montessori materials look like. You can be Montessori-inspired, there is nothing wrong with that, but this misleads people who are looking for an authentic Montessori environment. Maria Montessori had very specific and very detailed guidelines for how a classroom should be and how the materials must be. Look up what a Montessori classroom looks like and you will see that this looks just like a traditional classroom. Again, nothing inherently wrong with that, but it will confuse people who are wanting to send their children to a certified Montessori classroom (AMI or AMS for example) and they get charged a lot of money for what they think is a Montessori experience when it actually is not at all.

      Thank you for sharing these thoughts. I know it may seem nit picky to others but I am a primary( children’s house 3-6) guide and feel myself feeling a bit territorial over people throwing the word “Montessori” around when we work extremely hard to maintain a very carefully curated environment and pedagogy for our students. I can appreciate her saying inspired but I still don’t see anything Montessori about her approach or environment. I even see her using a sticker reward system when that is something we absolutely do not do In Montessori.

    We are studying trees and that is a cool art project for my preschoolers to complete upon our nature walk. Gluing leaves to a tree. Also we have been counting to 10 and I was going to do the cup stacking next week.

    Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for sharing your story with us. I always look forward to your videos! I just wanted to leave a gentle note that the word tribe is an outdated and racially sensitive term. Many Indigenous/African communities consider it a derogatory term as in the West it's often synonymous with being primitive and "savage." It is a powerful word used as a tool to drive colonialism and cause harm. There is lots of literature online about why this is important and other words to use instead :) Thanks again!

    Why are they called heroes

    • @elizabethmarcelena
      @elizabethmarcelena  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi John! One of the frameworks that Acton Academy puts emphasis on is The Hero's Journey. At Acton, every child is on a hero’s journey to change the world. It’s important to note that we aren’t talking about “superheroes”. Our definition of a hero is an ordinary person who gets back up after falling down, someone who takes responsibility rather than blaming others when things get hard, and who shares their inner gifts to meet the needs around them ❤️
