Im not mexican american, but im a hispanic immigrant who spent two big chunks of my life in different countries (cuba and the US) so i understand the feeling of having two conflicting identities honestly, your painting rlly conveys that feeling and thats such a complicated emotion to convey like??? you're such a skilled painter and also your room/work station is so cute omg
YEAH MEXICANA !! I’m half European (ofc white) and Mexican, and my experience is a TINY bit different. I grew up mainly in a white neighbourhood and school, which was super tough. I remember I used to sneak my moms card as a kid to buy skin whitening products because I was always being called “brown skin” in elementary, which was super traumatic. Although I’m half white, I’m Bulgarian, and Bulgarians are from the balkans where people are kind of tan with dark features like Italians for example. I was always too Hispanic for the white kids, and too white for the Hispanic kids, because I spoke broken Spanish, and they all knew I was only half Mexican. Sorry for the essay LMAO but the topic means a lot to me growing up as an immigrant here in the states. ¡Gran arte como siempre, Camila! 🫶
"I was always too Hispanic for the white kids, and too white for the Hispanic kids, because I spoke broken Spanish" I relate this so hard! Growing up I had to take a different class to better my English pronunciations. My English is still not that great but I feel it has gotten better than when I was younger :) I'm mixed with the same things as you but with pale skin but It was also like that growing up for me, I hope you are now in a better place!
Your transparency is phenomenally reassuring, like a warm hug. I genuinely felt such inner warmth and joy watching this video🥲 Keep being You Camila; Your craft is unparalleled, and Your personality is like no other 💜🫂 Thank You for putting Yourself out there, and for inspiring others like You did Me
As an artist myself I'm honestly more impressed by the fact that you don't feel miserable every time you touch a paint brush than by the actual art itself
I’m not Mexican American, but I feel very connected to this painting. I am white, like completed unseasoned lol, but I grew up in a family that honored our Celtic, Nordic, as well as Greek roots. However, many people in my school write off that culture and tell me that because I am white I don’t have a right to “claim” to have culture. I feel like I have to hide who I am from them and hide my culture. So I feel very deeply about this painting, and I absolutely love it! ☺️💖 Keep painting!
i'm not mexican but i am mixed (japanese-ryukyuan on my mums side and european-puerto rican on my dads) and i grew up in both Australia and japan so i really do get the feeling of not feeling like having one whole identity in your heritage... love ur paintings so much
You're so beautiful Camila. Inside amd out. Your videos and paintings bring me so much confidence within my self, with my art and self-esteem. I'm so happy to be able to watch your video because they bring me so much joy and ugh... youre just amazing. Keep up the amazing work. 💌
You don't sound crazy. I've always had the two voices in my head feeling too. And not like multiple personalities or anything. But exactly as you described. One part of me bullies me constantly, and the other is like a "who even cares? go for it" attitude. This is a really interesting and unique way to celebrate your heritage. I like it a lot!
I've been following you on Twitter for a while, but I just watched one of your videos for the first time (this one, obviously) and can I just say... Getting this video diary / process explanation just makes me appreciate the painting more! It was so cool to see the highs and lows of how you brought this painting to life. (And, also, you're hilarious too. Multi-talented!) Wherever you go to college will be incredibly lucky to have you, and I'm sure you'll do great things there and beyond 😊
i see the vision aaaaa and i love how it turned out!! seeing your process throughout this piece was so interesting, but overall i think the color palette came together very well with the original monochromatic scheme w red and then the little details kind of adding a slight contrast to that! and i think the meaning behind it all just makes this so much heartwarming :)
Though I’m not Mexican and wouldn’t understand the struggle of a Mexican American heritage, I do feel disconnected and sad about not being connected to my German and Polish side. I have other heritage but The grandparents on my mothers side are immigrants or their parents were with them as kids and I feel it’s been normalized for European Americans people to not learn about their ancestors. Like to study about Poland it’s means im studying rather than connecting to roots. Your painting looks amazing and captures the feeling. Also you always look great
as someone with a Mexican American heritage I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I get it I UNDERSTAND!!! I was literally planning on making a painting like this LOL (also love the Khan academy ap art history music)
I adore all of your videos ?!?! Like usually when I sit down and paint along with other art vlogs or sketchbook tours my brain usually goes “fhfhfh” but when it comes to your videos I’m like. At full attention if that makes sense ?? Like the vine booms ?? The humor ??? The amazing, hyperrealistic art ???? I strive to be like you one day ‼️ This channel is definitely, DEFINITELY my most favorite like * chef’s kiss * AND THE END RESULT WAS SO GOOD AAAAAA
Learn spanish and embrace both , i´m from Spain and I love your autenthicity, there is definitely a lot of mexican power and rawness in your art. Love from Madrid!
You have done it again! this is another masterpiece. I was binge watching your videos and surely do notice on my how you delve and express your art with self portrait. a question comes to mind "how does doing a self portrait effect one's esteem or how someone view themselves"... and in this video you explained it... so thank you so much. Thank you for always creating and making our world a better place
I love your vibe I love your morals I love your space on the internet! I binge watch you ever since I found your channel! You’re a normal human being who is beautiful funny and extremely talented! Can’t wait to follow along with your journey 🫶🏼
GIRL, I LOVE YOUR ART AND YOU INSPIRE ME SO MUCH!! ☺️ I plan on doing AP Studio Art next year in school and making bigger paintings kinda intimidate me… lol. BUT seeing another girl around my age painting beautiful and creative artworks helps me believe it’s possible for me too! Thank you for sharing your talent
You are a MASSIVE inspiration for me, so glad to have found your videos in shorts! Might also try out acrylics soon, although I never worked with them. I like oils, but... that stuff is expensive 😢
Happy to see you experimenting and trying new things! I have a thought that you might find interesting, if I hadn't heard you talk about the concept of this piece aka what you said about heritage, I would have thought this painting is about self love or something, or accepting all the different sides of yourself. It is just the vibe that the red colour and flowers are giving off for me, and also the ribbon, it looks like you are celebrating the fact that you are now connected with yourself and able to accept yourself more and stuff like that. A more abstract interpretation but yeah, I felt like I had to share it Btw I totally get the thing you said about the painting making sense to you and how you know that it might not make sense to others, I imagine it's a common experience amongst creative people and it happens to me often too, but it's also cool that someone might see something totally different in the finished result than what you had in mind as the creator
I’m so inspaierd by your paintings, I’m 16 years old and also an artist. And I really see people my own age making art, so I kinda feel part of something when I see other young artists
You’re so amazing and i love watching you paint so much, I enjoy watching your videos and seeing how they turn out. I love you and your videos i hope you’re doing well and awesome!!🫶🏽🫶🏽💛💛
i love how it turned out but i was totally tearing my hair out thinking FORESHORTEN THE ARMS THEN THEY'LL FIT IN 😭 but either way i think the work on the shirts is definitely my favorite part! That fabric looks incredible :)
i love your videos so much! this is a wonderful painting with a great reason behind it, you executed it so well! you inspire me to paint dawg keep rockin
your videos have been inspiring me so much since i found you though i am a digital artist myself ive been wanting to try a process like yours, if only life would slow down enugh for me to try 😂 I’ve loved every painting you’ve done ❤
You know, I have been watching your videos for a while, and yourself portraits kind of remined me of a modern day Frida Kahlo. You have seen her work before probably, but I would love to see you do a master study of one of her paintings, but with a fun little twist.
I’m Mexican British and I struggled in school with not being British enough and at home not being in touch with my culture but anyway CAMILA ATE AGAIN WITH THIS PAINTING ✊
I also struggle a lot with my Mexican identity, so this painting resonated with me. I absolutely love the bright colors!!! Paintings with vivid color palettes are always my favorite to make:)) Also how do you take your photos?, I’ve been wanting to take good quality photos for my class but I don’t know how.
thank you! i take them with my phone! you just need good lighting (outside on a cloudy day works best) and try and get as close as possible to your artwork. i usually edit my photos on an app called lightroom (its free) to tweak the lighting or colors to match the real painting as close as possible.
This gives me vibes of Frida Kahlo, she did a self portrait where she painted two of herself being connected by two hearths, even though it has a completely different meaning than your painting it reminded me about that
“absolutely riveting, iconic, and tear jerking”
Im not mexican american, but im a hispanic immigrant who spent two big chunks of my life in different countries (cuba and the US) so i understand the feeling of having two conflicting identities
honestly, your painting rlly conveys that feeling
and thats such a complicated emotion to convey like???
you're such a skilled painter and also your room/work station is so cute omg
I adore how it's monochromatic but it's so colorful at the same time, I wish I could paint like you girl
I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED THE VID YET BUT I KNOW ITS GONNA BE YET ANOTHER BANGER FROM CAMILA 🎉🎉🎉🎉🔥🔥🔥
Love this concept, as always! Having two versions of yourself is so relatable and tough to deal with sometimes 😮
YEAH MEXICANA !! I’m half European (ofc white) and Mexican, and my experience is a TINY bit different. I grew up mainly in a white neighbourhood and school, which was super tough. Your process is always sooo cool to see. The picture references, tracing, then layers of base paint. So cool.
LETS GOOOOOO CAMILEONATORS IM GONNA START MY NEW PAINTING JUST BECAUSE OF YOU‼️🙏🏽
WOOOO

this reminds me so so much of Frida Kahlo's painting "two Frida's" all about her two identities one being her Mexican heritage
I wonder if she was inspired by Frida Kahlo as well 🥹
Though I’m not Mexican and wouldn’t understand the struggle of a Mexican American heritage, I do feel disconnected and sad about not being connected to my German and Polish side. Its so crazy seeing how far you’ve come w art as someone who was here during the krazy studios era😭😭genuinely im so happy for u ur doing amazing
Believe me I know how ya feel when you say your insecure, I am too but honestly I think your really pretty, like you could literally be a model ❤
I adore all of your videos ?!?! Like usually when I sit down and paint along with other art vlogs or sketchbook tours my brain usually goes “fhfhfh” but when it comes to your videos I’m like. You could've used foreshortening of the arms, as if they hold hands in an angle above the ground, but I genuinely think it's 9.989/10 LOVED IT!!!
Je comprends COMPLÈTEMENT ce que tu ressens !! Encore une fois incroyable peinture 🫶🏻 Toujours autant impressionné par ton talent
I was already so impressed with this painting, but seeing it come together and hear what it means to you has only added to that. Incredible work!

Loooove your art! How do you get the motivation to paint so often?
For your next painting can I suggest a super duper duper original idea. Lime lips.
oh my goodness you're a genius this is so original!!!

This gives me vibes of Frida Kahlo, she did a self portrait where she painted two of herself being connected by two hearths, even though it has a completely different meaning than your painting it reminded me about that
