  • We're huge fans of the Jackbox Party Pack series, and it has become a wonderful yearly tradition of ours to get together and play the individual games for an evening. I then spend a few days editing that footage, collecting my thoughts, and doing some final reflecting.
I then synthesize a Jackbox review for you all! This is our collective JackBox Party Pack 6 review!

    JackBox 6 Steam description:
"It’s the wildest Party Pack yet, with the absurd deathmatch Trivia Murder Party 2, the weird word circus Dictionarium, the hidden identity game Push The Button, the comedy contest Joke Boat and the offbeat personality test Role Models."
The Jackbox Party Pack 6 includes:
    ------------------
Jackbox Party Pack Trivia Murder Party 2 (1-8 players)
The sequel to the popular horror themed trivia, minigame mashup. Survive till the end and escape!
    Dictionarium (3-8 players)
Define fakes words, create synonyms, and then use it in a sentence. Like Balderdash, but more stupid.
    Push The Button (4-10 players)
Can Humans and Alien co-exist? No! Work against a ticking clock, discover who the secret aliens are, and jettison them to space.
    Joke Boat (3-8 players)
Flex your standup comedy muscles. Craft jokes in a mad-lib style, and workshop your set to get the most laughs.
    Roles Models (3-6 players)
Assign your friends into roles within a broad category. Find out who you really are. (Or at least what your friends think of you.)
    ------------------
This Jackbox 6 review is more about providing an overview and some pros and cons for each game. I don't plan to give it an "out of 10" score. But I did attempt to a ranking jackbox games list.

I don’t own the game myself but watch mixer streams on my xbox using my phone as the controller, but i can NEVER find a game of push the button that either
      1. actually presents a new code instead of spontaneously ending the stream.
      2. lets me join and then is like “wow someone joined my streamed jackbox game instead of the 2 people that are irl next to me lets reload the game so they aren’t in it why would someone join a streamed jackbox game”
TL;DR no one lets me play push the button

    • @GraemeGames
      @GraemeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

PTB unfortunately just doesn't work if you aren't in the same room, same as Fakin' It.
You need to be able to look at each other, read expressions, communicate, and interact. It's unfortunate, but just by the very nature of the game it will not work with people joining through stream

My honest opinion of the games
MURDER Triva: Fun and lots of replay ability 8/10
Joke Boat: It’s not fun at all, it’s really bad. 2/10
Role Models: Fun with close friends. 7/10
Dictinairium: It’s good at best. 6/10
Push The Button: EXTREMELY FUN, but only with a lot of people. 10/10

    • @GraemeGames
      @GraemeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Joke Boat is weird. I enjoy it for how crappy the results end up being. The laughs are more to do with the errors than the actual game. Which means it likely won't age well. I imagine we'll get sick of it before any of the other games. But in limited doses I've enjoyed it.
They really should fix some of the broken prompting that ruins punchlines though...

My opinion: Dictinairium is lightly sugared frosting that is good for a quick laugh
Joke Boat was made to give Facebook mothers a feeling of comedy (but it's fake)
Role Models: Odd themes that work well, a decent icebreaker and a fun method of exploring deeper opinions
Mt: What you'd expect a dad to play, if you have the intelligence (or aptitude) to play, go a-****ing-head
Push The Button: Uhhhh, Among Us *e x i s t s*, and you can host / join via mobile without the need to have a computer host. And also, the airlock system is more proper in "Among Us", you can airlock 1 person, and unless you have a crewmate amount that is 1-2 larger than impostors, you can live.

I find PTB good, but for the opposite reason that you said. I commonly find that with roughly 6 or 7 or more people the game gets really hectic, alot of people are arguing, and it is impossible to find every alien. I find maybe 6 or less is better as it isnt as crazy, the game is easier and there are not as many arguements. Idk its my opinion

MTP2: great come back from the first MTP but only downfall is some of the killing floors are so unforgiving but nether the less fun! 9/10
Joke Boat: fails in every way and quiplash and madverse city do it way better than this! 1/10
Role Models: Do it with friends and it will be fun! 8/10
Dictinairium: Game is too one sided and has less jokes in it than others. 3/10
Push The Button: Wearwolf, Mifia and fakin it with a huge twist and it's better when you have a full house in the game! 10/10

I'd like it if in Dictionarium, there could be a setting where you can enable whether you want to add it into a dictionary website or something, and people can look at any round of Dictionarium's synopsis, but there's obviously going to have to be a setting for it.

if they made a Jackbox All Stars Party Pack I would combo TMP 1 and 2 (into one game), YDKJ 2015 and Full Stream (again into one game) for trivia and add in Survive the Internet, combo ALL of the Quiplashes into one, Split the Room, All of the Fibbages (with a Fibbage enough about you mode) and Dictionarum for Writing games, put in Bidiots,Tee-Ko,Civic Doodle, and combo both Drawfuls for drawing.

    • @GraemeGames

    Here are my personal opinions:
Trivia Murder Party 2: Just as good as the first ones. All the minigames are really fun, and the questions are good. 10/10
Joke Boat: I feel like the amount of enjoyment from Joke Boat depends on the people playing it, and if the people playing can make things funny under limited conditions. In my opinion, it's roughly a 6.5/10. It's not the worst, but definitely the worst of the pack.
Role Models: You definitely need people who you know to play, but that's the point. Honestly, it's a lot of fun with people you know really well. 8.5/10
Dictionarium: I've played it once or twice. It was good those times, but it does kinda get old after a while. 7/10
Push the Button: This one is really fun. I've played this with a few people who were streaming, and that was really fun. 10/10.
Overall opinion: This is more of a pack to play with friends you know. Streaming it works, but I feel that the closer you know the people you're playing with, the more fun you'll have with this pack. 8/10

    • @GraemeGames
      @GraemeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

TMP2 would still be good for streaming, but I agree with the friend assessment. This pack more than almost any other should be played in-person with people you know to get the most out of it. If that's an option, then it's one of the best!

push the button works very well for streaming or remote play, it is the one concept you couldn't do that way (faking it needs you to see eachother) and they made it work wonderfully, I play with my family via skype, very fun.
Also, if you don't have fun with Tee K.O. you need better people in your life.

    • @GraemeGames
      @GraemeGames  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Push the Button works *best* in person. But I've been very happy to see people making it work over stream! A little something is lost without being able to look each other dead in the eye - but the team did a good job not making it a requirement.
Even the funniest thing ever made in Tee KO becomes less funny the more times you see it. It's the same reason I dislike Bracketeering (which I believe is far more guilty of this, and therefore worse). It's pretty much always a recency bias for who wins, and the laughs deminish the more times it's seen

@@GraemeGames Tee-KO is my favourite of the ones I've played so far, with the caveat that no one actually cares about the winner. The drawing/prompt mashups end up way funnier than anything we've seen in the other games, you just need to have vile, wretched friends. The last round is pointless though and I wish it had a better score system, the tournament style just doesn't work well.

  • @thaiisfood

    My personal review:
    Trivia Murder Party 2:
TMP 1 was one of my all-time favorite games in the party packs, I’m very glad they added this in. I do like how in the final bit of the final round, you have to get all 3 of the answers right, I think it balances the living and dead players really well. Also, the audience has much better participation in this one.Probably my new favorite game in the party packs.
    Rating: 10/10
    Push The Button:
I love the concept and the execution of it, but I don’t think it was executed to its very best. I don’t like how if there’s 8 people, there are 3 aliens, I think it would have been better if hey kept it at 2 aliens for 8 players. Other than that, I love the aesthetics and the mini game thingies/whatever you have to do to find the alien. I will say though, f you humans that make themselves seem like aliens.
    Rating: 8.5/10
    Joke Boat:
It’s Mad Verse City. But you tell jokes. Yeah.
Already when I heard about this game, I wasn’t too hyped for it, as I don’t like telling jokes, puns are much better to create on the spot, and they usually get a much better laugh at.
The biggest problem with Joke Boat is the rigid format you have to write the jokes. It’s VERY limiting, and it’s very hard to get around it and be funny. Occasionally you’ll get a laugh, buuuut that doesn’t stop me from disliking this game.
I love the art and aesthetics though. That’s a plus.
    Rating: 5.5-6.5/10
    Role Models:
I have never played this one. I want to. It looks so fun. And I love the aesthetics, probably my favorite of the entire packs. Buuuut I can’t rate it because I’ve never tried it :(
    Rating: ?/10
    Dictionarium:
I really don’t know why, but I absolutely love this one. I always have a blast when I play it, and I really love the aesthetics (I think I’ve said that for every game lmao) and the host’s accent. I do love how short the game is, taken it any longer and I would’ve thinking it was an ok game. Also, the timer is my favorite of the packs. This game falls into the category to short n’ sweet.
I usually don’t win the first round, but I’m pretty good at the second and third rounds.
    Rating: 9.5/10

I think I've only played it with 2 groups. One group had fun with it once, and the other group devolved into just drawing lots of dicks.
I probably owe that game another chance. But it really does seem to live and die on the group.

I may understand English well and I'm able to play these games, but most of my friends or my family can't and it's really sad, cause these games are very fun and I'm limited to play them with the few friends I have that know English :(

      store.steampowered.com/app/1111940/Quiplash_2_InterLASHional/
They made a version of the game very recently that actually has been localized into French, Italian, German, and Spanish. Keep in mind that this version lacks the ability to add custom prompts for some odd reason? Hopefully they add that back in after the negative fan reception!

JackBox 2 is a pretty good "starter pack", as you get a version of both quiplash and fibbage, and can easily pick it up for cheap during a sale! Plus Bidiots is great! It's just not for everyone. Then if you ever get bored of those, or have seen the prompts too many times, you can look at other installments

    Trivial murder mystery 2: 8.5/10
    Role models: 4.5/10
    Joke boat: 4.0/10
    Dictionarium: 6.0/10
    Push the button: 9.0/10

I think push the button is great when everyone has played it a couple times but devoting 30 minutes each to failing/learning was rough. I think it deserves credit for being more out there, but the rest of the pack felt really flat. I never liked how trivia murder party was about trivia and adapting right up until it was all meaningless and anyone can swoop in at the end. Felt like doing well was more work than what it was worth but I'm in the minority opinion on that game. The dictionary one and the role model ones are neat but don't have enough to get me to want to launch the game just for them, and the joke boat one wasn't enjoyable for me. If I can be convinced to open the pack, then there is enough to keep me there, but this one is almost never a consideration for me to open up. I think the review is thorough and well done, but I have a very different ranking of it. It just comes down to how people prioritize and like game types. I dont mind luck games but I dont like trivia + luck so enormous wheel and trivia murder party are not for me. I like drawing games and this pack had none. I like social deduction but its hard to get a group to catch up on the rules of push the button. Everyone's going to have different things they like and different experiences based on their friends or setup, and I think the video still does a good job of showing that.

I think that Jackbox Games are all about fun instead of full-on competition. You can't deny that it would be fun induce more paranoia by lying through the game even if it doesn't benefit you. It can still be a lot of fun! But sometimes the game places too many restrictions. Like having the setup AND punchline include fill-in-the-blanks? Why not leave the punchline totally open ended!?
Plus, the game doesn't always tell you that it is going to provide the opening statement, and you end up with weird repeating words that you yourself added. It's a solid game, just with some crippling design flaws.
