      If you can consistently hit an A-zone at 15 yards and move safely with a pistol in your hands, you're ready. Come on out. Going to your first few matches will teach you what you need to train in to get better.

    Is it worth the lower capacity for major power factor in limited division? I did Limited division at USPSA and Steel Challenge a couple years ago, with a 9 x 19 CZ TS2, and Production division before that with my Shadow 2, and then last year I got a used Czechmate, so I did minor power factor open division.
    I think my TS2 is the best value I've gotten in a handgun. The trigger is just as good as the Czechmate, but it's easier to take it apart, it's way more reliable, and it only cost like $1500 new.

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely it's worth it! The only thing the capacity limit changes is where I do my reload. There may occasionally be a stage where I have to reload and a minor power factor competitor doesn't, but the major scoring allows you to be WAY more aggressive. It allows you to need kess confirmation and get similar times to the guys running red dots.
      The match from this video, there wouldn't really be any change with my times if I had a larger capacity magazines, but my I would have dropped from 6th overall to 13th overall if I was shooting minor instead of major.

      I’m new to the sport. How come Major gets more points than Minor

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@matt_rn6116 because the major rounds have more recoil and less capacity. Basically it's harder to shoot quickly, so having major and minor is a way to level to field and give competitors a choice between the two.

    Just a heads up- looks like your American Flag is hanging backwards. Union (the blue part with the stars) should be on left. Otherwise, good video, good content.

      It's not. It's on this jersey the same way it was on my uniform when I was in the military. It is positioned that way, so as to show that our troops are moving toward the enemy with the flag waving as they do so.

    Problem with a lot of these competitions is everybody is trying to game the system.
    Be it fun mids, downloaded cartridges, or something else.
    Fun for some and have at it though.

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I see it kinda like auto racing. Every competitor does everything possible to bring home the win. If you aren't, others are and will beat you at it. Even though those racecars are completely unrealistic to drive on the streets, moving at those speeds makes them a more competent and able driver because they've done it at the absolute fastest level.

    Bruh !!! Match shooting should include a full blown level 3 holster 😂. Make it challenging haha not that partial holster

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've shot matches with my level 3 holster and did decently well. For most competitors, the few tenths of a second difference in draw speed won't have a quantifiable difference in their match placement, but when you're at a higher level and are competing for match wins, those few tenths make a big difference. There's plenty challenging about this style of competition, come on out and line em up to see for yourself.

      Though I am no pro I personally use a LV 2/3 Safariland(hood down when I get to the line so it's lv 2) but I have tried those comp Holsters and they are a different animal and for me personally I don't run one for 2 reasons I have used SL Holsters professionally for 20+yrs & I don't have skills (yet) this guy does so I don't want a DQ if I misalign re-holstering and my gun falls out.
      There are probably some who think what I run is overkill or something else but I use what's comfortable to me and what I can use effectively I don't care what the setup is everyone has pro's & cons there really isn't a perfect setup that works for everyone
      I know I won't ever be first but I know I won't ever be last either ha

    🤔 on Milk Run after the first magazine drop you did not remove your finger from inside the trigger guard while reloading. Fortunately for you your body was between the handgun and the RO's who likely could not have seen this. The match could have ended much worse for you.
    You clearly shot a very good match besides this.

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice catch! I didn't notice that! I usually rest the pad of my trigger finger on the outside of the trigger guard, and it looks like it slipped off. Definitely gotta make sure that doesn't happen again!

    • @robertthomas497

    There is no such thing as cheating in a real gun fight.. Not being the victim is all that matters.
    Anything goes in the real situation that this is supposed to be replicating.

    Nah it's not a cheater gun. Any one who shoots Iron's get all the credit in the world. Now what I think cheater guns is the open race guns that get Major scoring, even over PCC. The Major scoring on a race gun basically tells everyone you don't need to Aim and you can hit charlies all day.

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Open is probably the most fun, but the statistics show CO has taken the crown as The One True Division.

    • @DJG37S
      @DJG37S 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@empiricalshooting Well that depends the person, I shoot Open, CO, PCC, and LO and the most fun I have shooting is CO. I'm a GM in Open and PCC. I have the most fun shooting CO because you really need to get the little things down RIGHT because minor scoring is NOT kind.
      Shooting is like cars, not everyone is going to find driving a fast car "fun", I also own a 1200 WHP Nissan GTR and a 600 WHP Nissan Skyline (R32) GTR, and believe it or not I find it more fun to drive my skyline around a track then my 1200 WHP Nissan GTR (R35) even though my R35 GTR is way faster around a track.

    • @empiricalshooting
      @empiricalshooting  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% agree! Minor scoring really makes you pay attention to the detail.
      And yea the fastest thing isn't always the most fun. I'm really starting to enjoy the manual nature of using iron sights again. Yea, my track built Mustangs with auto trans were much faster to the lights, but there's just something about ripping gears in a manual that just FEELS better.
