    I always wanted to try my hand at chipped glass signs. Enen bought a book in the 80s when I was a showcard writer but once I saw the equipment involved and the thought of cut fingers. Noting that you have a bandaid on your finger I decided to give it a miss. It trully is an art that needs to come back to our signage. Some of the photos that I have of popcorn vending machines with this art are just gorgeous.

      what kind of equipment did you balk at, just the sandblaster and air compressor? sure, these guys have a booth or box that controls heat and humidity so they can get a piece done in a couple of days, but eventually the glue will pop even if you left it out. beyond that it's basic tools aside from a glass cutter and breaker thing.
      or the vinyl cutter/plotter? that would be great to have, but to get a really nice one you're talking a couple of bucks. the one my trophy/t-shirt shop had when i owned it was about $3K, but that was pro stuff and used on a daily basis. you don't need a fancy one, though, however i always advise ppl to stay away from hobby stuff like cricuts. still, you're basically just making a stencil with the vinyl, you could do that by hand if you really wanted. i used to use clear shelving stuff i got at the grocery store and cut things out with an exacto knife, then put armour etch on it.
      i worked at an auto glass factory for four years and i was afraid of cutting myself at first. respect the materials and take reasonable safety precautions and you should be okay. you could take a file and sandpaper to the edges if you wanted (although glass with eat that stuff up fast) if you didn't want to use a power tool. alternately, just tape the edges.

      @Hughes SignCo I completely understand. I'm sure you weren't trying to be rude and I wasn't either. Beautiful work, the time, patience, materials and tools always cost a lot. • @manlymcstud8588
      @manlymcstud8588 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coreyflannagin3698 sure. instead of using glue, put some double-sided tape on the back of the name plate. plates should adhere to the frame basically permanently under normal conditions unless you pry it off. the only reason to use the glue is to stick the little nails in if it's a metal frame, but i've always been of the opinion that unless the nails or screws are functional then it's simply over-indulgent.
