    The 13/14 GT500 has several things over the new one.
    1) Manual transmission
    2) Approx. 300 pounds lighter
    3) Avoids gas tax and gets better MPG
    4) More comfortable Recaros
    5) Cheaper
    6) Stamp of approval from Mr. Shelby himself
    7) First to reach 200 mph
    8) Easier to work on, less computers
    9) Looks like a 60s Mustang
    10) Was compared to cars twice it's value at the time and was beating them.

    5:45. Borla exhaust? Are you serious. You don't put borla on a Mustang. That's more of a Corvette exhaust. Flowmaster 40 series and H pipes are what goes under a Mustang and you top it off with a set of cams with a lumpy idle

    After 6 years in Germany my family and our '13 Shelby GT500 will be returning to the US in July 2023. She has had a really great time here. Usually, on the autobahn, we average 110-150 MPH. We have been close to 200 MPH for short periods because due to autobahn improvements and repairs you can't go a long way like that and you really don't want to. There has been a movement to take away the unlimited speeds and go with the rest of the EU and have a max speed of 120/130 KPH or 72/78 MPH. I hope, if they do, they wait until July 2023 when we will be gone. The one thing that I still feel uneasy about is passing the Polizei and they don't come after you.

    I have a '14 and I absolutely love it! The crazy thing about it is with relatively little money in mods, it cranks out serious power. Pulley, CAI, T/B, tune and you could be pulling around 700rwhp. Plus a LTH and Corsa Extreme exhaust setup make this beast scream!

  • @richardsonwilderness
    @richardsonwilderness ปีที่แล้ว +7

    These cars are severely underrated. Start with the Trinity engine, dual-clutch six-speed MANUAL trans, carbon fiber driveshaft, Torsen rear axle. Yeah, the entire drivetrain is unique to the GT500's in '13 & '14. It isn't a huffed and stuffed base engine. Oh, and Ford GT cams. These things are FAST. Mine is bone-stock, 7,500 miles and I only run 101 octane fuel. I fitted mine with 325 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's on the rear (requires an adjustable track bar). Even with that rubber, it will spin the tires at 80 in 3rd, and not just a little bit. Zero to sixty can be done in first gear. I forgot that in my testing, shifted, cussed, and still ripped a 4.0 flat. I don't have a Hellcat or new GT500, and here's why: Hellcats aren't special enough, they put that engine in EVERYTHING. The new GT500 has no stick shift, an unremarkable engine, is too heavy, and they couldn't even put the rear brake calipers in the proper location. Save your hate mail, lot's of folks like those cars, and that's perfectly fine. My opinion is my own. The 2013 's are special, which is why there are more '14's in the market at any given time. I sometimes think about selling mine, because I'm getting old and worry about my skills being able to handle such a beast. I just can't think of anything I can remotely afford that even comes close.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rods aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. There is this big thing going around online about how weak the rods are on gt500s the last couple years since certain videos came out online won't mention any names specifically but the cars have been shown to take up to 800+ whp on stock motor while being beat hard for years. All the gt500s were like that 07-14 these got way more attention because stock hp is higher but people don't realize how cheap and easy the older ones can get to the same power level and they have the same ceiling. The gt500 rods weren't as good as the older 03-04 cobra rods because those literally got aftermarket manly h beam stock but these aren't the fragile glass everyone tries to make them out to be. It's mostly 03-04 cobra guys being salty that the gt500 is a much better overall car and they keep beating the fact that the cobras rods were better but fail to mention everything else on the car is stouter on the gt500 outside the oem driveshaft on 07-12 (these got carbon fiber driveshaft).

      @@midnight347 nice info. Yeah I had a 14 GT500 that i sold last August. I had around 800 wheel hp. There’s alot of talk on the forums about 800 wheel being the max and playing with fire on the stock bottom end of these cars. Something about the block being sprayed with some type of weak plasma coating idk. But i heard alot of the horror stories of guys sending rods thru their block. I didn’t like the fact that other model cars can handle 1k hp without building the block. At least thats what I’ve been told. I think the 13/14 should have been able to handle 1k hp comfortably

    I love that car! I owned a Ruby Red with black stripes! I prefer this 2014 over the new one only because it has the mansmission(manual 6speed)! The new one I feel isn’t connected to the driver because it’s automatic! They should have given the new car both transmissions in my opinion

      I like them not just because of the manual.
      There’s that torque that hits instantly, the bespoke 5.8 engine, it has some refinement but an otherwise raw experience, the supercharger whine is louder, and the exhaust has a sound on its own.

    The reason it can get 3.5 second 0-60 because it goes above 60 in first gear. There is no "shifting" to get a good 0-60 in these cars just the launch.

    Hey Matt kind of regarding the video I just want to say growing up I loved watching your videos man. U do some amazing work and so much respect to you. Continuing that fortunately I was able to make a choice between a 2014 shelby and a brand new gt premium and although these s197s are monsters I needed the car as a daily and just couldn't see myself put sm miles on an iconic car. I just placed a deposit on my first ever mustang at the age of 21 man and honestly u helped my love of mustang grow bro. From watching u get that ecoboost to reviewing a boss302 and eventually getting ur own bullit! I just want to say thank you... and keep pushing out that content!

      You are one of those guys that won't ever understand. Cars are about FUN. Many people, including myself, feel that these cars are just alot more FUN plain and simple. They don't have as much sheer performance but they are still blisteringly fast and can be much faster with simple mods. These are gonna feel alot more raw and violent and scary when you get on it. The manual trans connects you to the car in a way a dct never will and its alot more FUN to drive. It isn't always just about absolute max performance. Sometimes an 11 second car is a hell of alot more fun than a 10 second car. I know that is a hard concept for some of you magazine racers to understand but it's true. It's the same reason that the plaid is an awful car only its way more awful than the new gt500. The only thing it does well is accelerate fast but even that it does in the most boring lifeless way possible. A slower (but still very fast) ICE vehicle with a solid rear and a true 3 pedal manual trans is gonna be way more fun to drive than either the plaid or New gt500 even if it is little slower. Both gt500s have a visceral experience that cannot be matched by the plaid but the older gt500 has a visceral and raw experience that cannot be matched by the newer gt500. Sometimes it isn't just about max performance when comparing which vehicle is better and more fun. These have potential to go 9s easily with a stick shift which is nothing to be ashamed of AT ALL. Just because the all out performance is little less than the new car don't mean it isn't a better and more fun car to own, for alot less money might I add.

    Im debating on a 11 model vs a 14 model. Im going to modify it. I think you can make a 2011 look like a 2014, and then for some simple mods gpu can make it just as fast and fun to drive. Yeah i know the 14 will make more power mod for mod, i also think about 600whp is the most i want for tye street and daily driving.

      Buy a clean 2007 GT500 for $32K and spend your upgrade budget on the iron block 5.4. You will save money in the long run. I would love to have a 2014 GT500 (currently have a 2007 GT500), but a clean 2014 GT500 costs almost twice what my 2007 costs. I'm going to upgrade mine to the HP that the 2014 had and not spend the extra 30K to buy a 2014.
